i just get the gooey shuddery feeling at the thought of baby sucking on it.maybe your right and itsbeen a sexual thing. ill give it a go anyway if i dont lke it surely i'l be able to put halt on to it. how long is the shortest time you can breastfeed for as really only want to do to get the first lot of nutrients for her but dont want to continue much at home mum says it does not matter but will it

It's not a suck, it's a chomp, with quite tooth-like gums. Not a bit like sexual sucking (at least not in my reasonably wide experience!).

DD did this and it was the mw who pointed out she was doing it. Very cute. I'd been absorbed with her shedding meconium on my tum at the same time, thought the wriggling was about that! (less cute but part of the deal as well). It doesn't feel odd at first, but beware the first few days, your nips do get a bit of a shock!

I was just wondering why they didn't pick the baby up and move it to the nipple?

It was obviously knackered from all that pushing and squeezing.

Looked a bit like a ticket event too.

Lovely baby.

You should feed your baby in whichever way you feel most comfortable with.

The current guidelines from the Government and the World Health Organisation are that you breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months ie 26 weeks. That you do not introduce cows milk as a main drink until at least 1 year. The obtain the maximum benefit to health etc you should feed for 2 years +. This is what plenty of MNers have done - myself included. It doesnt feel strange to feed for that long - they dont suddenly grow up overnight you see .

Formula is a perfectly adequate substitute for infant feeding, however, it doesnt have the same 'benefits' to health from infancy to adulthood that breastmilk has been found to have. And breastmilk is FREE!!!!

If you want to choose a formula milk, make sure its one that you can find in your local supermarket AND in your local late night convenience store (things always run out at a bad time). Ignore any claims they have on the tin about being closer to breastmilk than other brands - they are currently unable to substantiate this

Yes MI, its looks a bit like they are "chewing bubblegum" I suppose.

It can take a while for nipples to 'harden off', tis true.
