Sub Chorionic bleed?? Anyone else? Worried!

Well I’m currently 6wks+3days pregnant after a frozen IVF transfer and have been spotting on/off small amounts of brown blood for the last week or so and on Monday morning I found I was bleeding red blood, I rang the fertility clinic who referred me straight to EPAS and they fitted me in for a scan that day. I was adamant I was miscarrying but nope, on the ultrasound one perfect little bean measuring 3mm with a good strong heartbeat. Although the bad news..during the scan the ultrasound technician found an area suggestive of bleeding below the gestation sac, on my notes it’s says sub chorionic bleed and after googling I’ve made myself worry even more. The technician did say often these get re-absorbed back into the body however it does increase your chance of miscarriage.Sad

Has anyone had this and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? This baby is so wanted and loved already! I just need to hear from other women who have been through this. I’m going out of my mind with worry, I’ve had spotting very lightly of just brown colour since Monday so I’m hoping the bleeding is tapering off now. I have another scan booked in 2 weeks time when I’ll be 8 weeks + 3 days to check how baby is doing.

No experience of sub-chorionic bleeds but didn't want to read and just disappear. It's such a stressful time waiting to see what happens with a worrying early pregnancy (have been in slightly differing circumstances), all the more so after fertility issues and long waits to get to this point.

I hope and pray that all is still well at that next scan, and that the time whizzes by until then. Do you have lots to keep yourself distracted with?

I had this. I passed some clots that were as big as my hand. I was put on bed rest for 5 months and am happy to report that my DD was born healthy at 35 weeks.

We also did IVF and I do wonder is there’s a connection.

jayde28 · 19/06/2019 03:06

Hey,

Following an ectopic and miscarriage I had this type of bleed at around 7 weeks and thought it was happening again. I continued to bleed on and off until around 15 weeks.

My Almost four year old daughter is tucked up in bed in the next room so a very happy ending. Try to have faith that everything will turn out well however I know how difficult that can be! X

jayde28 · 19/06/2019 03:07

Sorry just to add she stayed in until 39+5! So the early bleeds had no impact on going full term at all x

BaweB · 19/06/2019 03:27

I had this - it was about 2cmx1cm from 5 weeks to 16 weeks and then it just disappeared. We were told no sex, no exercise and no heavy lifting although I asked my mate who's a consultant OBGYN and she said this was over cautious. Anyway, it had reabsorbed by 16 weeks.

The issue is its relative size to the foetus; they were worried about mine at 5 weeks but by 9 weeks it was the same size but the foetus was so much bigger that it wasn't an issue.

How big is yours? It's not always a good outcome but I think normally it it so try not to worry too much!

x

Hi @June340oo. I am just over 6 weeks pregnant (FET IVF too) and had this happen to me during the early hours of Monday morning. I saw my doctor and like you had a healthy foetus and good heartbeat but the scan showed patches of blood. I've been prescribed some drugs to help clot the blood and have been told to take bed rest for the rest of the week.
It's so scary but have read that it can happen to lots of women who go on to have healthy babies. Hope everything goes ok for you.

BruceTheMoose · 19/06/2019 04:06

I had this at 5 weeks. I'd never heard of it before and no one else I knew had either. I started with brown spotting and it went on to fresh red blood/cramps and I was convinced I was going to lose Dd. I bled on and off for a few weeks and then it tapered off.

I had to wait until my next 12 week scan to see if the baby was okay. It was very stressful!

I went on to have a healthy pregnancy and 5 year old Dd is currently snoring away next to me.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry and stop googling it as you'll drive yourself mad.

eurochick · 19/06/2019 04:13

I had a huge three week long bleed in the first tri on my 4th ivf cycle due to a SCH. Somehow the bean hung on. It was a horrible time though.

June340oo · 19/06/2019 08:22

@BaweB

Mine is 1x1.5x1.4 cm, I’m not sure if that’s large or small compared to baby as she/he was only 3mm big at the scan. I’m hoping and praying our next scan shows it’s shrunk or has been re-absorbed. If ivf wasn’t stressful enough to get a pregnancy, I never expected to be dealing with this on top of it all. I’m so glad all worked out for you. Yes I’ve been told pelvic rest, so no sex, heavy lifting or exercise etc, I will do anything I can to have a healthy baby.

Thanks so much for all the replies, it’s reassuring to hear some positive stories regarding SCH’s in pregnancy. So pleased you all went on to have healthy babies. Gives me a little hope my pregnancy will all work out ok.

@Booksandstuff

The sonographer did mention that SCH’s are more common with women who have been through ivf especially FET, but couldn’t tell me for what reason. I suppose logically speaking your body goes through so much podding and poking it’s likely your insides are sore and more likely to bleed. I hope all goes well for you in this pregnancy, when is your next scan? Are you being closely monitored because of it? X

I had a SCH and bled continuously and quite heavily from 6 weeks to around 17 weeks. I ended up in hospital for a few nights due to the amount of blood lost as it was a heavy gush at one point. It was horrible because I had a toddler at the time so couldn’t rest as much as I thought I needed to but the cause of all the worry is now a very loud, mischievous, yet perfect 4 year old. Don’t over do it and try not to keep going to the toilet to check - I got told that by my midwife as the constant wiping can cause tears making it look like your bleeding has increased. Flowers

Rodent01 · 19/06/2019 08:31

Yep, big bleed at 8 weeks, freaked me the f out, but was a SCH and she is now nearly 2. Didn’t have anything with my first so it really scared me, but all was good!!

Fingers crossed for you!

BaweB · 19/06/2019 08:34

Ok so that’s actually a bit smaller than mine at the same time of the pregnancy. I’m sure you’ll be fine! The baby is growing very fast so as soon as it’s bigger than the SCH then it’s good news!

Mine actually got bigger at 9 weeks but then it had still reabsorbed by 15.

It was stressful but provided it doesn’t get bigger then I think you’ll be just fine. Be careful with yourself but don’t worry - I was on a 3 week holiday and doing light swimming and it didn’t really change it.

PM if you want x

Booksandstuff · 19/06/2019 08:35

@June340oo My doctor said it's because IVF pregnancies mean thicker linings so there's more chance of bleeding. I have another scan on Monday when I'll be exactly 7 weeks. It's an anxious time, so I understand how you feel. We were ttc for 2.5 years and I so want this little guy to stick!
Make sure you rest lots and keep hydrated. If you're on baby aspirin or similar come off that.
X

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 19/06/2019 08:42

I had 2 of these bleeds during pregnancy. One at 8 weeks (small bleed) & one at 10 weeks (lots and lots of blood this time). Both times I was scanned and the bleeds were shown to be lower than baby and out of the way. I'm now 37 weeks.
I know it's hard but try not to worry. Good luck x

milleniumhandandprawn · 19/06/2019 08:47

Hi,
I also had this - big bleed at 7 ish weeks and it turned out I had 2 SCHs. One was big, and one smaller.
I took it very easy, although carried on working - just no lifting or running or anything strenuous.

Anyway dd ended up being born at 41+2!
Perfectly healthy :)

I wish you all the best op

June340oo · 19/06/2019 08:48

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts

Yes my bleed is also underneath where the baby is so the sonographer seemed positive about that. Congrats on your pregnancy, hope all goes well for you. X

@Booksandstuff

Yes that makes sense too, I hope all goes well for you at your scan next Monday. Yes we have been on this IVF journey for 2 years also, we had 2 eggs put back in and thankfully one had stuck so they are even more precious to us. This is one giant rollercoaster that’s for sure. Yes I am drinking plenty of water and keeping my feet up. This will be such a long 2 weeks til the next scan and I thought the 2ww was hard! X

@milleniumhandandprawn

Glad to hear all worked ok for you with your baby girl, after googling I was so worried but hearing some positive stories has helped to calm my anxiety down, it’s just a case of taking each day as it comes and hoping my little bean will hold on. Thank you x

I had an extra chronic hemorrhage attached to sac I've had 2 previous losses. I bled from 7 weeks till 17 and cried with wine in the shower was positive I'd lost the third baby. I also passed massive red clots. Bleed had completely gone by 20 week scan and I'm currently cuddling my 5 week old daughter who was born at 40+4 xx

HermioneMakepeace · 19/06/2019 09:12

Sorry, just wanted to add that my DD was born at 35 weeks for different reasons, not because of the SCH.

June340oo · 19/06/2019 16:59

@xJune88

I’m so pleased everything turned ok for you and your little girl. It gives me hope x

I had a hematoma which caused pain, bleeding and clots (about the size of a 50p) and i bled for a good 6 weeks! Currently 15w3 and everything is going well! The bleeding finally stopped after i had a MASSIVE bleed, all gone now!

Unsureursula · 20/06/2019 08:52

Hello! I have a SCH too (picked up at 13 weeks nhs scan and at 16 week private scan). I haven’t had any bleeding and have been told it will be looked at again at next scan (next week) when I’ll be almost 21 weeks. V scary (I’ve also looked online!) but hoping all will be ok.
