27th June can’t come quick enough! I want reassurance! If I had a spare £79 I’d be booking a private one!! Anyone else waiting for a scan and impatient like me! Xx

@Starlight84 I'm 13+2, my first scan is in an hour and I'm absolutely bricking it!! Only a week to go for you now :D

tisonlymeagain · 20/06/2019 09:54

Hi @Startlight It went okay - I was 5+4 (or thereabouts) so not a lot to see but there was a gestational sac and a yolk sac. No definite fetal pole but she thought she could just make it out, however that's not unusual for so early. I have another scan tomorrow at 7+1 and I am so nervous! Then I have my private Harmony/NIPT scan when I am 10+5 and they've just booked my NHS scan for 12+5.

tisonlymeagain · 20/06/2019 10:06

Oh and meant to add, there was no obvious cause of bleeding so it seems like it probably came from my cervix during sex rather than it being pregnancy related. Still too scared to have sex though.

Starlight84 · 20/06/2019 12:58

@RudyRoo eeeek exciting!!! I too can’t wait to buy things but want to wait until I know the sex! I’m doing ok thanks! Don’t really feel pregnant which is why I worry. How are you?

@aliensprig OMG how did it go??? So jealous! Can’t wait for mine! Have your dates changed?

@tisonlymeagain
I hope your scan tomorrow goes ok xx

@Starlight84 yes me too, after this scan it'll be the countdown to the 20 week one! 🙈
I'm the same, don't really feel pregnant, the only thing is my constant sore boobs reminding me that I am actually pregnant. Didn't have any sickness of anything so I know how you feel! Is this your first? It is for me and I guess it makes it all the more surreal...not really knowing what to expect and what is 'normal' for you.

Starlight84 · 20/06/2019 16:41

@RudyRoo no it’s my 3rd but very big age gap! My youngest is 11 soon and I don’t really remember things! My boobs aren’t even hurting! I’m always checking for veins in them because the weekly update things on apps say this week you may notice blah blah blah and I don’t!!! This time next week I’ll have had my scan and hopefully everything is as it should be! Xx

@Starlight84 so I'm actually 12+2, but my EDD is now Dec 31st which is quite exciting! Got to see our little bean wriggling about on a big screen - amazing weird experience. Now desperate for the 20 week scan!!

Keep us posted with how yours goes next week :)

RudyRoo · 20/06/2019 16:44

@Starlight84 well they do say every pregnancy is unique so I'm sure everything is absolutely fine. Hope it's a quick week for us both! 🤞🏼

Starlight84 · 20/06/2019 16:53

@aliensprig eeek how exciting! Depending what my dates say next week my mw said they do elective sections anything from 37 weeks and I am 38weeks (at the mo) on Xmas day!! I’m wondering if they will squeeze it in before xmas or after Xmas before new year as 39 weeks which is when I should be done by is New Year’s Eve and I can’t see them doing then! Can’t wait to see how it pans out!

@RudyRoo I really hope it does as well 🤞🏻 Xx

Not in quite the same boat as you as I’m currently 32+2! BUT I can tell you from 32 weeks of experience that every little thing for me drags 🤣
I have growth scans every 4 weeks and they drag in between and can’t come around quick enough! I also see the MW fortnightly and the nurse at GP on opposite weeks (since 16 weeks) and the time just drags in between each appointment and I see the consultant intermittently as well! 🙈 it’s like everything I do is a countdown! Driving me nuts lol
Good luck with your upcoming scan though x

Starlight84 · 20/06/2019 21:16

@Lexyness sounds like you don’t know if you are coming or going! Won’t be long until it’s over for you. Thank you. Just willing next Thursday to come! Xx

Lexyness · 21/06/2019 10:34

@Starlight84
You’re right! I don’t know if I’m coming or going! At every MW app we discuss how there are no certainties with what’ll happen, I’m desperate for natural birth as have 3 other dc who will be on summer holidays! But there seems to be more and more factors each week which suggest I ‘might’ Need an ELCS! I desperately didn’t want one but I’ve kind of resigned myself to this baby deciding that maybe what is best for her lol! Just wish I knew either way, or if I have to be induced early, or need an ECV! It’s the not knowing which is driving me nuts and willing each additional appointment to come quicker - but then at the next app I seem no more prepared than the last 🙈
Haven’t even packed my bag yet as I don’t know what I’m preparing myself for - in an ideal world I would be having a home birth lol! Instead I’m over an hour away from the hospital and HAVE to have hospital led care! With possibly constant monitoring. So I haven’t done a birth plan either as it seems like a waste of time lol!
Anyway enough of my moaning! Entry and take your mind off waiting, go and enjoy yourself xxx

Marty93 · 24/06/2019 13:51

I have my first scan on 28th. I'll be 12+2. I feel like I have been waiting forever as well. Having a horrible sicky day today though as I have been for the past few weeks - so deffo know there is a baby in there causing mayhem! Lol. x

RudyRoo · 24/06/2019 14:18

@Marty93 same as me! I'll be 12+3 when I have scan on Friday. I have been counting down this date in my head for so long! The waiting is the worst! Haven't had any nausea though so it doesn't even feel real. So exciting though. 😊

gerbilfun · 24/06/2019 14:32

Why don't you just got to the doctors and say you've got anxiety about it all and it's stressing and upsetting you? I did with all mine and got early scans at 6 weeks. My sister found out she's pregnant last Sunday she spoke to her go who confirmed it, told him she's worried ect and she's got an early scan for 2 weeks time. Simply no need to pay for them.

Starlight84 · 24/06/2019 22:09

So I can say my scan is this week now! I can’t wait. Having some right old funny pains. Just want reassurance now xx

I am staggered that anyone would think it’s ok to expect the exceptionally overstretched NHS to provide early scans that have absolutely no medical benefit just to prevent some short term stress and upset. And that is coming from someone who is pregnant and suffers from anxiety.

We all worry and want to see our babies but as someone who recently lost a parent largely due to the waiting times for cancer diagnosis and treatment I think there are more important things NHS money should be spent on.

Newbie21 · 25/06/2019 00:53

@Aintlifelikethat I agree if it is a simple - I hope all is ok with baby and you have no rationale for concern. However, having had a series of MCs including 2 MMCs - the stress and pain of fearing your baby has died and your body is tricking you into letting you think all is well is a horrible horrible thing and causes huge anxiety. It is also proven that more regular scans reduce that anxiety and reduce MC risk. I have had extra scans on the NHS - following spotting - however had I had no spotting waiting until 12 weeks wouldn't have been an option for me - since I found out about first MMC then - thinking all was well with my symptoms etc but baby had died at 8 weeks. I'm in the fortunate position that I can afford private scans so would pay if necessary (and have done).

I understand your concerns about cancer diagnosis, treatment and delays but I'm not sure we should be accepting poorer maternity, antenatal care due to a broken NHS system. For instance - they should look at the procurement contracts with the drug companies - NHS paying 400% more for some drugs than certain other EU countries for no reason is shambolic and wasteful. Rather than reducing care levels in different areas.

Aintlifelikethat · 25/06/2019 05:33

@Newbie21 I am sorry for your losses and totally agree that, in situations where there has been previous loss and there are genuine concerns, an early scan is warranted. It was the flippant comments that you should ‘just go to your GP and say you have anxiety’ and there’s ‘simply no need to pay for them’ that got my back up.

I agree there are many areas that the NHS can save money (I have worked in the NHS and seen dreadful waste) but I also believe we all have a responsibility not to abuse it.

Aintlifelikethat · 25/06/2019 05:38

I also wonder where do you draw the line. A scan at say 6 weeks would be great but then what, I may suffer a mmc in week 7 and still not know until my 12 week scan. Should women with anxiety have a scan a fortnight? One a week? Sadly the final outcome is not going to be changed by a scan and scans only offer very temporary reassurance.

Starlight84 · 25/06/2019 06:21

If someone wants an early scan that’s their preference and should be paid unless any medical reason ie previous losses, bleeding say otherwise. Me saying I’m anxious makes me just as bad as that lady who had her nose job on the Nhs!! Yes I’m anxious, getting pregnant was and still is a shock. I don’t physically feel pregnant and I have a huge age gap between this baby and my youngest but I would not create to have a free early scan. Looking back I think having an early scan would have made me worse so what will be will be Thursday and hopefully see a nice little baby there. Xx

gerbilfun · 25/06/2019 08:22

I like to confirm my pregnancy's when I find out. In feb I suffered a MMC, thought I was 8+2 but sac measured 5+4. Had no symptoms so knew something was wrong. If I'd of found out at my 12 week scan I'd of been even more devastated.

Nothing wrong with getting early scans on the nhs

Newbie21 · 25/06/2019 08:26

@Aintlifelikethat yes I agree there should be due cause for a scan. 6 weeks is a bit early for a reassurance scan in any case. It is a shame there isn't an ability to do scans at the 8-9 week mark at least for those who have experienced miscarriage since the knowledge there is a heartbeat is a huge comfort. Also if there is not then it gives people the ability to decide how to manage the miscarriage and whether any testing should be carried out on the foetus to determine any underlying issues. I appreciate testing needs to be paid for if you have had less than 3 miscarriages.

But anyway, hopefully those on this thread all get to your 12 week scans and see bouncing babies.

TwistofFate · 25/06/2019 10:28

Hi, I'm having an 8-week scan on Friday after IVF, it's offered by the hospital because they record chemical (positive urine test) and clinical pregnancies (heartbeat detected) for their stats. I'm nervous because this is my first pregnancy and I've read so many posts about MMC.

Marty93 · 26/06/2019 16:56

@RudyRoo oh I'm so jealous you've had no nausea lol! You lucky thing! I feel like I've been waiting for 28th FOREVER! It takes me back to when I was a little kid on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to arrive! Lol! X
