I know this is probably a really daft question but what do you wear during the birth?
Thanks

First- a nightie with buttons down the front

Second - nothing! Accidental home birth and got too hot in a dressing down. Poor ambulance man didn't know where to put himself!

In all honesty naked is best, but if you aren't comfortable with that something with top and bottom access so baby can go straight on your chest when born

First a nightie with buttons...got changed into it after a stint in the birthing pool. Pretty sure i was just wearing a bra in the pool but I really can’t remember!

Second, a massive baggy t-shirt...was what I arrived in and only time to take my jogging bottoms off before getting on with her arriving!

In some cases you may be in a hospital gown, but otherwise in whatever you feel comfortable. With my first I gave birth in a pool. On the way to the hospital I wore a vest top over a bikini top and some jogging bottoms. I stayed in those until I got in the pool, then just ditched the jogging bottoms. I had a nightie to change into after the birth. Just aim for something comfortable, practical, and something that you don't mind potentially getting mucky

Honestly whatever feels comfy in that moment. I wore a nightie whilst I laboured and a fabric bra and my socks whilst pushed. For some reason I wouldn't let anyone take my socks off 😂 x

ISaySteadyOn · 21/05/2019 17:10

Nothing for the first two. I was far too hot. And a gown for the third emcs.

Nightmanagerfan · 21/05/2019 17:10

I wore a stretchy nursing bra - I was in the pool for most of it and that was fine. I think I had planned to wear a nightie but in all honesty I had no interest in what I was wearing!

ISaySteadyOn · 21/05/2019 17:11

Also, OP, not a daft question at all. Perfectly reasonable to ask.

Teddybear45 · 21/05/2019 17:12

Whatever you fancy. Asda do some really good soft touch night shirts that can be easily taken off if you feel too hot (and cheap so could be disposed off if needed). Suggest a crop top underneath.

missmouse101 · 21/05/2019 17:13

I just wore the cotton top I arrived in, whipped off leggings and pants and away I went.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 21/05/2019 17:14

First child, not a lot, maybe a bra.. I had planned to wear a nightie. But got too hot.
Second child.. a t shirt and denim skirt! (Didn’t have time to get undressed)

forkfun · 21/05/2019 17:14

I got a cheap, short jersey robe from Tesco's. Very convenient and enough coverage for me.

MissMilly88 · 21/05/2019 17:15

I wore a hospital gown although I planned to wear a nightie. I googled this exact question myself :)

cakesandphotos · 21/05/2019 17:16

I think I was mainly in a soft nighttime maternity bra. At some point I ended up in a gown but I don't know if that was bechase I had an emcs or whether I put it on before that. Just wear whatever you're comfortable in. You might get too hot to be able to tolerate anything anyway

BlueThang · 21/05/2019 17:17

First child I wore a hospital gown. Second child I wore just a bra.

NeatFreakMama · 21/05/2019 17:18

I wore and oversized button up shirt, which worked pretty well but honestly I wouldn't have cared if I was naked Grin

marinova · 21/05/2019 17:21

Thanks everyone :) that's a big help

Not a daft question at all all. I travelled to hospital in jogging bottoms and a vest top.

I took the jogging bottoms off when I got there for them to check how dilated I was. I don't remember putting them back on, but think I must have to go to labour suite/room.

Not long after I got there I took everything off, I was far too hot and the feeling of clothes touching me was unbearable. A bit like when you're sick and you just want to do anything to feel more comfortable.

I had taken a nightie that I didn't mind ruining with blood etc that I had planned to wear.

Take whatever you think will be comfortable for you OP, but don't worry if you want to take everything off once you're actually in labour, they'll have seen it before and won't think you're odd.

TrixieFranklin · 21/05/2019 17:26

Hospital gown, had planned to wear my own big T-shirt style nighty. This time planning just a bikini top if I can use the pool!

TwittleBee · 21/05/2019 17:29

Started out in my big loose nightie but soon went being naked. Probably will be the same again for this time.

Times10 · 21/05/2019 18:18

Nothing for my first, I couldn't get comfy, and a tank top for my second.

Littleguggi · 21/05/2019 18:21

The pyjama vest that I arrived in, bottoms came off at some point. Had packed a bikini for the pool but it never got worn!

firstimemamma · 21/05/2019 18:23

Just my bra (water birth and changing into my packed bikini top really was the last thing on my mind!)

lanbro · 21/05/2019 18:23

Nothing, pool birth first time, just stripped off. Second time started out in the pool but hoisted out very quickly as baby heart rate dropping, still naked. She was born v quickly and then I was absolutely frozen so given my dressing gown

happymummy12345 · 21/05/2019 18:24

I wore a long nighty.

helpmum2003 · 21/05/2019 18:25

I bought a cheap nightie (Winnie the Pooh I think) that I didn't mind binning...
