B&stard Stretchmarks :-(

I've religiously slathered my tummy and boobs with the Clarins Body Tonic (the one for pregnant women) every morning. Every, night, I slather my boobs and bump with the thickest moisturiser known to man and massage it in for what feels like hours.

I'm 29 weeks and have just found some little red marks on the underside of my bump. What else am I bloody well supposed to do! I don't want to end up with a tummy that looks like an ordnance survey map :-(

The joys of motherhood!

Sorry if you're going to get stretch marks you will. Some women are more prone than others no matter what lotions and potions you put on. They do fade after a while.

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 20/07/2007 09:28

I didn't get stretch marks until I was 36 weeks - I was mortified at the time. Now, 3 years on they are faint so they do fade over time. And do you know what - I am proud of them because they are the marks my beautiful son gave me

Moorhen · 20/07/2007 09:30

Mine turned up in week 38, after I`d started to feel smug. I discovered them in h&M changing room (strong lighting plus good view of underside of bump, dammit all).

And I have slathered with Bio-Oil twice a day and cocoa butter once a day since week 16. Truly there is nothing you can do - if tis fated, you are dooooooomed.

It is only a small part of my current distress at being six days overdue, but I can now see the buggers creeping further up my stomach every day baba does not arrive. Have already reached my belly button. Urgh.

LadyTophamSortingHatt · 20/07/2007 09:30

Just look at them as part of the job.

I'm quite fond of mine, when I was pg with ds4 a fellow mner said it looked like I'd been savaged by a tiger when i posted a photo...and thats excatly what it did look like.
Pretty cool really!

FirenzeandZooey · 20/07/2007 09:31

Mine have faded to nothing

I just have that attractive crepe look now

theressomethingaboutmarie · 20/07/2007 09:31

I guess that I'm just prone to them then. I have plenty from puberty but figured that with all of the moisturising (and drinking plenty of water, I was told that would help), that I would keep a clear tummy. Oh well, grin and bear it time I guess.

i managed to get away with them in first 2 pregnancies, they appeared at 34weeks in 3rd i was raging because dd was then born at 35. they appeared with a vengence with number 4, 10months on they arent so bad but i hate them

TheDuchessOfFawkesBride · 20/07/2007 10:04

You're the only other person I know who's said they developed stretchmarks during puberty. Lucky us!

I also got loads towards end of my first pregnancy - livid red lines on bump and under boobs. I don't actually remember if I got anymore with subsequent pregnancies. But like F&Zs, they've faded to nothing. I daresay if I wore a bikini and got a really tanned tummy, they'd show up white. So I won't be doing that.

I think the moisturiser helps a bit, but I'm convinced it's more to do with skin type.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 20/07/2007 10:53

Duchess - oh yes! Thighs and hips are covered in stretch marks. I wasn't a big kid but I shot up in height very quickly and my hips and thighs thickened out a little (okay, maybe alot!) and they were covered too. They have faded but still, it's a real bummer to have them.

Funnily enough, my brothers all have stretch marks too - they're all incredibly tall and got them during their growth spurts.

TheDuchessOfFawkesBride · 20/07/2007 11:11

Hips and tops of thigh on me too. I only weighed 4 stone when I went up to secondary school. I was 5'6" and 8.5 stone when I left so yes, there was some rapid growth!

emj23 · 20/07/2007 11:12

I got really awful stretchmarks when expecting DS, the MW said they were the worst she'd ever seen - hell of a claim to fame. They then faded away to almost nothing but now I'm 29+6 with second baby they are looking bulgy and silver - yuck. No new ones though, which is nice I suppose.

foxinsocks · 20/07/2007 11:13

yes, I got them when I had gladular fever strangely (I was around 16). Was very annoyed. Lost a vast amount of weight (went down to something like 48kg) and when I recovered, managed to put around 8kg back on again very quickly!

My pregnancy ones (around my belly) now form a matching set.

foxinsocks · 20/07/2007 11:13

glandular

RGPargy · 20/07/2007 13:15

You either get them or you dont! Nothing you can do about it really as it's all in the skin type (i think!).

LackingNicknameInspiration · 20/07/2007 13:24

I'm expecting mine anyday now - I have MASSES from when a teenager. Funny thing is, I don't remember being that bothered about them at the time (thighs) even though they were clearly visible in P.E, think because I just thought it was one of those things. Whereas am not looking forward to their arrival this time. But then again, my old ones have faded a lot so they don't really bother me that much (possibly because they're hidden by all the lovely cellulite...)

sophieandbelly · 07/08/2007 11:06

theressomethingaboutmarie

ive been using the same clarins body tonic
and at 32 weeks ive got a few mostly over my appendix scar. i cheak every day to c if iam getting more, hate them hate them!!!!! iam praying that my belly wnt look like ive been attacked by a tiger by the time i drop

scorpio1 · 07/08/2007 11:13

break open vit E capsules and rub on the marks and your tummy, thighs, etc. also my friend used bio-oil and it reduced the colour loads

Notyummy · 07/08/2007 11:15

I read somewhere that research shows that younger mums are more likely to get stretch marks (although I have friends who had their babies in 30s and got them....) and also there is something heriditary (sp?). My mum didn't get them, and neither did I (I was 34 when I had dd). I slathered religiously with Bio Oil.

I also have them from puberty. I nwent from controlled eating at primary school to fat git by 14 by stuffing myself with pizza and chips at lunchtime. I lost it all again when i was 16.

betsycoe · 07/08/2007 14:06

I'm another one with an appendix scar that has turned into a stretch mark!

I love it (looks like a smile at the moment) and am wierdly very proud of my new marks! It only appeared a few days ago (32 + 2 at the moment) so maybe I won't be too chuffed if I get more over the next few weeks!

I agree with the other comments. I've used Bio oil twice a day since finding out (at 4 weeks) and have still managed to get a mark. I also have old stretch marks on my back from when I had a sudden growth spurt in my early teens.

If you are going to get them there is very little you can do about it (though the Bio oil has at least given me 28 weeks of hope)!

sophieandbelly · 08/08/2007 09:21

thanks think i will head of to boots today for bio oil!! and vit e caps! a woman told me the other day ur more likely to get them with a boy! prob a load of rubbish like all the other old wives tales!!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 08/08/2007 10:32

I think I'll be joining sophieandbelly to get that bio oil - and some vit e capsules. I have been so religious with all of the oils, creams etc, it's really frustrating.

I spoke with a friend recently who's expecting her second baby. She said that she felt so pleased during her first pregnancy that she didn't see any stretch marks on her tummy. Apparently, they were all on the lower part of her bump which she obviously couldn't see. Her husband had seen them but knew that it would upset her so allowed her the blissful ignorance during her last few weeks. What a sweetie!

Duchess - I got boob-and-hip stretch marks in puberty too - because I went from totally flat chested to c cup in 2 years!

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/08/2007 10:41

My stretch marks represent the AA Road Atlas of Great Britain.

In fact, travellers frequently used me to get the route from Saffron Walden to Basingstoke.
