Huge growth in 4 weeks, not a big deal?

I've been having scans every 4 weeks to monitor fluid and was told any increase in my above average fluid level would require a glucose tolerance test as in previous pregnancy.. My 28 week scan showed slightly raised fluid and baby measuring on the 50th centile line on my chart. The 32 week scan showed increase in fluid slightly but baby has doubled in size and now above the 95th centile line (although he plotted it wrongly as on the 90th centile line) at a whopping 5lb3 with 8 weeks to go until due date. Consultant (the 3rd different one ive seen said no need for the gtt to check for diabetes as baby would be bigger if I had it??? I'm confused totally as this goes against what every other consultant has said previously. Am I right in thinking usually that sort of growth is taken more seriously?!x

Not something we've any experience of but bumping this for you, OP, in hopes someone spots it who's had similar.

I can understand why you’re a bit worried by this, but I think it’s probably fine. I had a scan at 32 ish weeks and was told weight of 5lb1 which is around 75th percentile for weight. Which GD they look for big tummies (baby’s, not yours!) so if the abdominal circumference AC ( should be on your scan report) is way bigger than the percentile for weight you might want to challenge them, but otherwise don’t worry too much. Also growth scans in isolation are notoriously inaccurate. You’d want the next scan (min 2 weeks later) to show similar percentiles before you can be sure.

My baby’s weight was on the 50th percentile between 20-26 weeks and has jumped up but I make big babies anyway. My first was 10lb (98th percentile) but I had no idea until she was born...ignorance is bliss! She came out fine without any intervention. Hope it all turns out ok for you x

It's seems the consultant who said no need to test for gd as the baby would be bigger hasn't read the size of your baby properly?
Mine was 4lb 11oz at 31 week scan and I had the gd test a few days after to rule that out.
No gd so they wanted to keep an eye on the size (My last was born at 38 weeks 9lb 6oz)
At my 36 week scan last week, they said he was 8lb 1oz Confused, with 4 weeks to go. He's putting on about half a pound a week which is the same as my first child.
So the consultant said 10lb would be manageable so we're aiming to get him out by the 40 weeks.

Thank you both, I have a scan in 2 weeks so hoping for a clearer picture. I think the idea of a big baby worries me more as I had a birth with episiotomy and forceps due to fetal distress and am episiotomy and ventouse as another result of fetal distress, both babies were 8lb12 and 9lb10 so the idea that this baby could be bigger makes me anxious to know I'll likely struggle to deliver without interventions. Also the growth in the short space of time is concerning me but I'll try to relax until I see my consultant again. I feel like some are very laid bank where others are very cautious so they all say differently but they are the professionals i guess x

@cantthinkofausername1990 your Consultant sounds great, mine told me nothing to worry about, they'll offer induction at 41+3 weeks, don't worry about previous births as each one is different (I have a definite pattern and this baby is actually showing up as bigger than the previous), I wouldn't be cut unless absolutely necessary (????) with a 4th vaginak birth its be unlikely, I won't be given or offered a c section after 3 vaginal births unless circumstances are extreme... Baby and myself would be bigger if i had gd. So I'm following up with midwife this Friday and see another consultant at 36 week appointment and will go prepared this time. X
