Sunbed - opinions!

Hey ladies, im 12 weeks pregnant and considering going sunbed today for 8 minutes - i havent been in ages and im not a tan addict, i just recently became very pale and my face doesn't look very healthy, in the past sunbeds helped with that.
Im not intending on going regularly or for a long period of time.
I read about the potential skin spotting and higher tenancy to burn, and im not so concerned about that, theres no official reports on any negative effect on the baby. Any opinions? Anyone went sunbed whilst pregnant?

Thanks

Fuck me!
First of all thank you to those you responded in a normal way, and advised me.
Secondly - don't you dare even question whether i care about my unborn child, you show your lack of intelligence assuming i don't without knowing me.
I used this as an open space to ask a simple question and to get advise, do not write to me as if ive done something wrong or hurt my child in any way, I look after myself in every way possible and do everything i can to ensure my childs wellbeing hence why i have asked a question about something i was unsure about!!!!!
I dont need your snide comments, appears a lot of people on here are in miserable moods so I'd suggest looking into your own lifestyles.

Good for you. There was no reason for everyone to react the way they did.
Treat your self and book a holiday.
#Dont forgot your sun cream before someone has something to say about that 😂xxx

eylul16 · 11/05/2019 14:11

@Lolly2019 haha, thank you!

A holiday would be lovely :)

Take care.

I don't think people need to be so rude.

OP, I wouldn't. You have a much higher risk of skin pigmentation and burning. Like others have said, you can overheat. Think about the advice not to have hot baths etc in pregnancy.
I doubt the sunbed shop would allow you anyway. I used to work in a salon that had one and we would not have allowed it.

Generally speaking, I don't think anyone should be using sunbeds pregnant or not.

holidayblues10 · 11/05/2019 15:23

It is a bit of common sense really. You just wouldn't go on a sunbed whilst pregnant. As said below you won't gain anything from it either from 8 minutes?Confusedso what's the point? It's not a risk I'd dare take anyway.

kgeal3 · 11/05/2019 19:53

I wouldnt. I love a tan and was a regular sunbed user before pregnancy. I literally bought a new course a week before I knew I was pregnant and was going once a week to keep last summers tan topped up.
As soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped going and my tan has faded so I have bought some st tropez moisturiser that has a gradual tan in it and it's keeping me lovely and tanned without the risk.
It's really not worth risking your babies health for a tan x

Sunshineface123 · 11/05/2019 19:56

Get a spray tan instead

loveheart27 · 11/05/2019 19:59

No!! Why would you? Don't be bloody stupid!!
A lot of people would kill for pale skin if it meant they could have a baby!!

RosieS22 · 11/05/2019 20:11

@Torsz I was thinking the exact same thing!

Is there really any need for the tone in some of these responses?
Now I remember why I have been using another forum over Mumsnet! 👋🏼

Angelinthenightx · 11/05/2019 22:26

Stay pale op ive never used sunbeds so im not sure what the rules are when pregnant ,im the same very pale.
I was using fake tan only on my legs until i read that maybe pregnant women shouldnt so ive not been doing it.there is so many things that they are saying we shouldnt be doing so ive decided to not do any beauty things apart from my make up & nail polish that is ok for pregnant women.its better to be safe. Shame u have had a hard time ,if u dont ask then u dont get help to make the right choice x

melissa1215 · 11/05/2019 23:12

No chance

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 11/05/2019 23:35

@Torsz Agree 100%!!
From my own experience tanning beds don't get hot, the ones I used to use had air conditioning and would get so cold I'd have goosebumps!
OP if you do use them then use sun cream (I know seems OTT) but your skin is more sensitive to UV rays whilst pregnant so you may burn.
I'd still be going if I could be arsed slathering sun cream all over and the faff of getting undressed/dressed in a small changing room 😂

LittleKitty1985 · 11/05/2019 23:45

I'm a fan of sunbeds so no generic judgement about them from me, however I didn't use them while pregnant because I didn't want to take any risks... & also it's kind of nice to "let yourself go" a little and use the pregnancy as an excuse! You're 12 weeks now so are presumably telling people - no one will judge you for being pale once they know. Congrats!

forever390 · 11/05/2019 23:48

I wouldn't. I know someone that died a horrible death due to skin cancer. Started out as a small mark on her skin. She had tumours everywhere by the end. It was very painful. She left two young children and was in her late 20s. She knew for a few months that she was going to die. Can you imagine raising a baby knowing that you will not see it's next birthday? Why risk your health and your life in order to "look healthy"

Strokethefurrywall · 12/05/2019 00:00

Does anyone say this same shit to pregnant women who go on holiday and lie in the sun for 2 weeks?

No??? Didn't think so.

Op I wouldn't use a sunbed whilst pregnant but I'm not going to make an arsehole comment.

You're not stupid, most on this thread are just snidey cunts.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

taylorlynn · 12/05/2019 08:07

Definitely wouldn't go near a sun bed if pregnant

Maddis136 · 12/05/2019 08:19

Good for you for asking about something you were unsure of OP. No need for people to be rude to you.

I just wanted to add that going on holiday for two weeks in the sun has nothing to do with it and harming your baby in any way. Women have plenty of babies in Africa. Just stay hydrated.

I would assume most tanning shops would turn you away due to insurance purposes. Even health spas are super strict on what pregnant women can and can’t do which is why it’s so hard to get a decent massage with any scented oil 😂

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2019 08:23

Does anyone say this same shit to pregnant women who go on holiday and lie in the sun for 2 weeks?

Iirc the sunbed poses more risks so is not the same.

Cosmogirl86 · 12/05/2019 11:27

It's not the same. On holiday you wear sun cream, cover up, go indoors, lie in the shade. You are exposed in sunbeds.

I used them before I was married for colour. I wanted to look nice in photos and on honeymoon. I also have had a malignant mole removed a year later. I can't prove correlation but it's pretty suspect.

thinkingcapon · 12/05/2019 11:35

Surely everyone is aware of the dangers of sunbeds now pregnant or not as well as the difference between sunbeds and being in the sun?!

I'm almost speechless

EggWrap · 12/05/2019 11:39

Maybe you just need to re-think your way of thinking, in that being pale does really, really not = unhealthy!

Maybe you just need a few pale muses. There are loads of pale women who totally look amazing!

Strokethefurrywall · 12/05/2019 14:00

Yes but 8 minutes on a sunbed isn't worth of such vitriol as far as I'm concerned - everyone just wants a pile in.

This place is the pits.

thinkingcapon · 12/05/2019 14:53

Strokethefurrywall

I can give you the contact details of my ex flatmate if you want who was diagnosed with skin cancer after two sunbed sessions.......

EdWinchester · 12/05/2019 14:57

I am amazed that anyone uses sunbeds now.

I thought they were a relic from the 80s.

Get a spray tan.
