Hi everyone! I’ve just found out I’m 4 weeks and a few days pregnant and I’m really really nervous as this is my first time! Any advice and tips would be great whether it’s financial, medical and health. Anything would be appreciated for a very new and nervous mum to be! Thanks Smile

Hi Becca,

Same boat! 3 weeks and a few days here! (According to my app)

I cant stop thinking it's not real Haha.

How are you feeling?

Congratulations btw! Flowers

Ohrobin · 10/05/2019 12:34

Congratulations both! I'm 4 weeks just found out today! Took so many test as I couldn't believe my eyes. Booked an appointment with the GP!

I'm nervous too! It's been so long trying! So any advice would be appreciated too! Smile

Andrea91 · 10/05/2019 12:35

Just try and relax iknow its hard as I'm first time mum to be. Dont be scared to talk to midwife if your concerned.

I suffered really bad with sickness mainly at night lol sleep when you can. Drink plenty more water. Eat healthy balanced diet and gentle exercise walking.

Once start growing invest in good maternity bras!!
Good luck x

IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 10/05/2019 12:47

@Ohrobin

Congratulations!
My GP booked me straight in with the midwife for the end of this month, that will only make me around 6 weeks pregnant, I feel like that's too early but they didnt bat an eyelid and I'm not complaining, it may start feeling a bit more real after that! Grin

CatRash · 10/05/2019 13:14

Congratulations - there's a January 2020 thread on the ante-natal boards which you might find useful - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/3566735-Due-in-January-2020?pg=30&order=

BeccaB05 · 10/05/2019 13:44

HI ALL! Love seeing all your messages.

Having no serious symptoms so far. Feeling a bit sick and some ‘period pains’ (can’t get used to calling them cramps now haha). I’m spotting a bit which made me panic and I did 2 more tests which all came up positive so I’m worrying over the little things!

Does anyone have any aversions yet?!

Does anyone know when morning sickness starts? (IF IT DOES?!)

Congratulations all as well! Xx

I will also be 6 weeks on my first appointment I think that’s normal? Haha

OP posts:
IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 10/05/2019 14:30

Oh good!
Not necessarily any aversion yet, but my nose keeps burning from the smell of perfume. I can smell it on my work blazer, and on my colleague who put it on at 8am this morning. I cant believe how strongly I can wiff it!

Also I was a smoker, and the taste of my fags was off so I did a test and put the packet straight in the bin Blush feeling super guilty I was still smoking :(

I'm also overly emotional. I keep welling up!

BeccaB05 · 11/05/2019 10:51

Well I have an update! Went to do our weekly shop this morning and every smell in the cheese section, meat section, FISH (the worst) and even the wine aisle Confused had me heaving and holding in sick! Not fun! The smells are so strong!

Also, have always eaten breakfast and can’t even look at food before 12pm anymore! Anyone else experiencing this?

I love being pregnant but this part is horrible! Lol x

First time mum here. Now at 14 + 3 days pregnant. Had my first scan on Tuesday.
I had nausea from 4-11 (ish) weeks. Could barely eat anything. I recommend not smelling a lot of things as that made my nausea worse haha. Bland food - digestives worked well for me, jelly, apples from the fridge (cold was better), I had cornflakes in the morning and just tried to eat what I could.
Don't worry if you can't eat much. Just try to eat something. All midwives have said that it doesn't matter what you eat. Baby will get what it needs from you. It will be you that suffers, not them.
Also had a stage of a few weeks where I was incredibly hungry (felt like I was starving) yet felt so nauseous to eat anything. Weirdest and most horrible feeling ever. I had to get signed off work for 7 weeks and have anti-emetic tablets.
Pleased to say I am feeling considerably better now. Still have bad days, but nowhere near as bad.

Andrea91 · 11/05/2019 11:06

I cant stand smell of meat cooking but I can eat so much more now in 2nd trimester. But when was in first I lived off fruit toast and crumpets with marmite lol and around 3-6 litres of water

BeccaB05 · 13/05/2019 16:55

It’s quite a relief to see that everyone is going through the same things! It can’t get overwhelming and I tend to feel like it’s only me so thanks for all the advice guys!

Is anyone experiencing quite bad cramps?? Even when I used to get my period I never had period pains like this?! Also, is anyone else SUPER tired all the time? Help! Haha

P.s trying to drink water! Going back and for to the toilet is so much fun! Not lol

EnjoyItAll · 13/05/2019 18:50

Congratulations! I got cramping on and off and it increased around 12 weeks. Don’t get it as much now I’m 21w. Some cramping is normal especially if it comes and goes as ligaments stretch. Only advice I would give at this stage is take folic acid up until 12w and contact your gp if you haven’t already to find out how to refer to a midwife. Keep hydrated and try and keep a healthy diet and exercise. Your midwife will be able to tell you the local process for hearing about scans and when to get vaccines etc.

Pppppppp1234 · 13/05/2019 18:52

Start saving is my biggest tip! Not sure what your maternity package is like, mine is good but to be able to have more than four months off we’ve got to save save save!

BeccaB05 · 14/05/2019 09:24

Hi all!

How is everyone today? I’m glad the pains are normal as they are quite severe! But they are on and off, I would be concerned if it was constant! I keep dreading morning sickness as I’m feeling super nauseous but so far nothing yet!

When is everyone planning on telling families? My other half wants to leave it until at least week 10 but il so excited I can’t wait that long? Any advice?

Lots of water is key! I’m
Feeling less sick with water! X

I have Fibromyalgia and just had to come off the medication so feeling very achy. Only found out on Sunday. We've told our closest friends. Waiting until the scan before telling family. Would ideally never tell MIL as she's going to be a nightmare.

BeccaB05 · 14/05/2019 10:21

Sorry to hear you’re not very well!

I too have a nightmare MIL! Oh the stories I could tell. It seems to be a recurring theme. We obviously have to tell her but I’m going to be saying ‘thank you but this is our baby’ quite a lot I think!! Ahhhhh families!Hmm

RudyRoo · 14/05/2019 20:55

Hi @BeccaB05 congrats! I am in similar boat to you at 6 weeks today. First pregnancy for me and so nervous/excited! Have booked in for a private 8 week scan as there is no way I can wait until 12 weeks!
I've had a bit of on and off cramping too but kind of dull and not as sore as AF. Not feeling at all nauseas yet and wondering when that will come, if at all!

BeccaB05 · 14/05/2019 21:18

Hi @rudyroo !!

Congratulations to you too! Oh wow I didn’t know you could book early scans privately! I may look into that? If you don’t mind me asking what are the costs of that?

I’m glad I’m not alone in the cramps department! I get good and bad days Grin ! Only nausea so far but nothing serious. It’s a waiting game!

Is anyone finding it confusing as to what not to eat and drink? I’ve alreayd swapped to UHT milk and cut out almost all caffeine! Shock

But I’m struggling with lunches for work? Any ideas? Hmm x

OP posts:
Pppppppp1234 · 15/05/2019 07:17

You don’t need to swap to UHT milk OP! Normal milk is fine.. unless you really like it 🙈🙈 all shop bought milk is pasteurised unless it says otherwise.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/#milk-yoghurt-and-ice-cream

I’m 23 weeks with my 2nd and apart from switching to decaf tea and no booze my diet hasn’t changed at all!

Pppppppp1234 · 15/05/2019 07:22

Lunch wise the same as prepregancy? Salads , sandwiches, soup meal
Deals etc

yoms · 15/05/2019 07:33

I am so glad I found this post. I am 4weeks5days pregnant and the cramps can get so unbearable. It's like have bad period pains. I had cramps nonstop for a week. And the last two days I have noticed the have eased off a bit. They will come and go which is a relief I guess. I called EPU and I'm booked for a scan on 28th May. I will be 6 weeks pregnant by then hopefully. Apart from these cramps I have no other symptoms. Not even sore boobs . I ready somewhere that Nausea and morning sickness is very good for pregnancy and reduces chance of miscarriage so I am hoping to get these lol

EnjoyItAll · 15/05/2019 09:23

There isn’t that much you can’t eat or drink. People keep telling me what I can and can’t have but they had their babies years ago and things have changed! You can eat runny eggs as long as they are British lion stamped, you can eat fish just advised to balance it with a good varied diet. You are encouraged to eat exactly as normal and the nhs say you only need 200 extra calories in 3rd trimester. The only things I have changed are reduction in caffeine and sugar but I was doing that before anyway and swapping white for whole meal or seeded bread/pasta etc as it’s slower releasing energy so keeps me full longer. Lunch wise I tend to take a sandwich and chopped up mixed fruit and a something like yoghurt, Soreen bar, nuts mixture or the odd bag of crisps.

@yoms don’t worry if you get no symptoms. I’m not 22w and no nausea, no tiredness etc just boobs have grown a size and baby is showing perfectly healthy so far

RudyRoo · 15/05/2019 13:54

Hi @BeccaB05 sorry for the late reply, I am on holidayin Italy just now 😊
Yes you definitely can! Lots of people get them nowadays. The place I am going to were doing an offer for only £39 (I am in Glasgow) which is very good, I think other people on here posted on said they were around the £60/£70 mark so it just depends where you go I guess. Im just going for peace of mind (and also hopefully so this starts to feel real!) once you can see a heartbeat the risk of mc going down quite substantially at this point and I think after this I'm going to tell my parents and sisters. So excited!

BeccaB05 · 15/05/2019 14:07

Hi all!

I’ve been told by a midwife that I’m not supposed to eat any pre packed salads or sandwiches (deals) as they can contain bacteria and it’s safer to make my own so that’s what I’ve been doing so far! I’d rather be safer than sorry especially in the early stages of pregnancy!

I also have been told by numerous pregnant / previously pregnant to swap the milk over as the normal semi / full fat milk we buy from Tesco’s for example isn’t heat treated so it does have natural bacteria? It’s a nightmare as it doesn’t last very long and doesn’t taste the best! Lol

And @rudyroo thanks for the advice! In my area unfortunately they don’t do any earlier than the 12 week scan so I would have to travel 2 hours for this, trying to decide whether it’s worth it or whether it’s just sensible to wait until the 12 week?!

I have only one tea a day but am going to buy some decaf today I think as I am missing my cuppas espcially in the work environment! Lol.

I hope all of you are doing well and despite any symptoms are enjoying your pregnancies so far! Flowers
