Real Nappy Week 2019

Hi all, I understand it is 'real' or reusable nappy week this week. There are a number offers coming up I figured it might be helpful to discuss offers and discounts you've seen and share them in one place. 😊

So far I've spotted Little lambs have got a 30% off refer a friend scheme in place for this week. To use this you follow a friends link to get the 30% off discount. Mine is below: i.refs.cc/jLtE09sg?smile_ref=eyJzbWlsZV9zb3VyY2UiOiJzbWlsZV91aSIsInNtaWxlX21lZGl1bSI6IiIsInNtaWxlX2NhbXBhaWduIjoicmVmZXJyYWxfcHJvZ3JhbSIsInNtaWxlX2N1c3RvbWVyX2lkIjoyODU3NTQ0NTV9

I've also seen that cheeky wipes have 25% off everything, so even if you're not tempted by cloth diapers - reusable wipes can save some cash and they also sell reusable breast pads, sanitary towels and muslins. They can be found at www.cheekywipes.com

Have you see any other offers, or have experience using any of the cloth nappy brands?

Thanks for sharing @GemmaJen. We currently use 'Close Popins'. I love the double gusset as it holds in the explosions. We use the same brand bamboo reusable wipes which are incredible! I really wouldn't go back. Found you only need one to wipe the nasties all away. Both purchased from online store Babipur. They will have offers on this week also.
I used the reusable breast pads with my second child. Tried the wool ones but never got on. Used the ones from Waitrose which have been brilliant. Unfortunately they became is comfort and he takes them everywhere with him which can make for an awkward conversation. Blush.

Cookit · 23/04/2019 13:10

Hoping to use cloth this time. Cheeky Wipes I have used, though not until toddlerhood, and they are BRILLIANT.

GemmeFatale · 23/04/2019 15:06

I actually wondered if I’d started this thread then wandered off and forgot! Grin

Looking forward to a bargain or two

GemmaJen · 23/04/2019 20:08

@snowflakeeel ooh I'll have a look at Babipur, it's not one I've come across.

@Cookit good to hear a vote for cheeky wipes, I've just bought a full set, still wondering if I should get a few of the rainbow microfibre for hands and faces? Or whether you can use the same ones ( freshly washed of course) 😄

This is really interesting to read, thanks for sharing your experiences and the special offers! We're tentatively keen to try reusables although a bit apprehesive, it's great to hear success stories!

GinMama1 · 24/04/2019 11:05

GemmaJen we have rainbow microfibre for hands and face, and a white set for nappies. Reusable wipes are sooo much better!

Browniee · 24/04/2019 11:12

@GinMama1 just to jump in - I’ve ordered a starter set or cheeky wipes thinking as a replacement for babies bum (due next week!) as we’re doing cloth nappies so makes sense. Would you think reusable face and hand wipes are useful for newborn or would they be better later when they go onto solid food? Sorry - clueless FTM here 😂

GinMama1 · 24/04/2019 11:29

Browniee we didn't get the face and hand ones until we started weaning. Muslins cover most things early on. The cheeky wipes are really so great - so much more efficient that wet wipes. We used them even before we started cloth nappies.

Leleophants · 24/04/2019 11:36

How many would you suggest buying before baby is born and would you get different types to try?

outpinked · 24/04/2019 12:08

Thanks for the cheeky wipes heads up, I keep meaning to buy some.

I’ve always used reusable nappies with all four of my DC. Not personally a fan of the close parent nappies, they always seem to leak Confused. I like Bambino Mio and BumGenius best. Used to like Tots Bots but the recent versions don’t seem to work as well as the older ones used to when my other DC were babies...

leleo I would buy a selection of different brands to figure out which you like first. Many companies sell trial packs.

Dermymc · 24/04/2019 12:14

Wipes wise we used these on bums www.cheekywipes.com/cloth-baby-wipes/cloth_baby_organic-rainbow.html

And these on faces www.cheekywipes.com/cloth-baby-wipes/bamboo-minky-cloth-baby-wipes.html

Best investment ever. I've saved an absolute fortune in wipes and you don't have to use as many because they actually clean instead of smearing poo everywhere like single use wipes do.

Kathryn19 · 24/04/2019 12:52

@Dermymc very interested in these cloths... what else did you buy alongside in terms of wash bags, storage etc?

Dermymc · 24/04/2019 12:59

I got the kit www.cheekywipes.com/baby-wipes-kit/baby-wipes-kit.html to start with. However on reflection I wouldn't get it again. Not because it wasn't good, I just found a better way to do it. I kept a pile of dry cloths, wet as needed and put them in the nappy bin when used. Therefore didn't need the tubs. When out I carried dry wipes and wet them when changing (usually a tap in toilets) and then popped them in with the dirty nappies in the wet bag.

Browniee · 24/04/2019 13:22

@Dermymc Did you find you weren’t really bothered about the essential oil solution or too much of a faff? I’ve ordered the Terry towel kit that’s for cloth nappy users with 2 tubs, bags for when you’re out and then the solution.

GinMama1 · 24/04/2019 14:17

We use the terry cloth for nappy changes www.cheekywipes.com/cloth-baby-wipes/cotton-terry-cloth-baby-wipes.html
And microfibre for faces www.cheekywipes.com/cloth-baby-wipes/micro-fibre-cloth-washable-reusable-baby-wipes.html

We haven't needed the essential oils at all - they seem a bit pointless to me. Like Dermymc we keep them dry and wet as needed. Then they go in a bucket. Browniee if you are using cloth nappies, you'll want bags out and about.

Kathryn19 · 24/04/2019 14:36

Stupid question but how do you wash them? Have you bought special cleaning stuff for nappies and wipes?

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 24/04/2019 14:40

If you're on Facebook join the UK cloth nappy libraries nappy Natter group as we have a thread of deals running there.

GinMama1 · 24/04/2019 14:54

Kathryn we store everything in a dry bucket and do a wash usually every other day. We put it all in the washing machine on a rinse cycle and then on a normal wash.

Kathryn19 · 24/04/2019 15:03

@GinMama1 amazing thank you for sharing!

Dermymc · 24/04/2019 15:26

When I was just washing just wipes I put some dettol in to kill any nasties. When I got to the nappies, I rinsed and then washed with nappy powder.

Drying them outside bleaches them from any stains. The essential oil solution became more of a hindrance because I wasn't using the wipes fast enough before they water went stagnant. Hence keeping them dry and wetting as needed under a tap.

GemmaJen · 25/04/2019 05:05

@JohnLapsleyParlabane unfortunately I'm not on Facebook, are there any good deals you can share here?

I've seen that Aldi has the Bambino mio bug's Life miosolo all in ones at £8.99 in their in-store baby event starting today. Normal price £15.99.

The Little Green Bee company has some good discounts on.

outpinked · 25/04/2019 11:26

We stick our nappies straight in the machine and wash every other day. Use fairy washing tablets as we do with normal laundry. Just don’t use softener as it damages them.

swiftfox · 25/04/2019 13:43

I'm keen on buying reusable wipes too - how many did you get for face, and how many for bum? Ten wipes for bum seems a bit too little - feels like I'd need to do a load of washing every day then...

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/04/2019 13:48

A lot of places (including babipur) are doing RNW next week instead, I think because of the bank holiday
