Slight sunburn on neck and now worrying!

Hey all, so been at the beach most of the day today and although I put suncream on I have caught a little sun on my neck. It's not really bad, just a little bit red. I have been keeping hydrated, had a large 750ml water bottle with me at all times that I topped up at least 2 times. I'm just in a panic now that somethings going to happen to the baby because of it! I feel well in myself, a little tired but tbf I'm always tired lately and we did have a long walk back in the sun. I'm continuing to drink lots have had a coldish shower and now have a wet tea towel over the back of my neck to cool it down a bit. As I said before it's not major, a little warm and it's not sore or anything atm.
Basically just looking for some reassurance that everything will be ok and I'm over worrying. Anyone had sunburn before and everything been ok? Also any advice would be helpful too! Thanks!

Have you really never in your life had a sunburn before? Wow.

Heatstroke could affect the pregnancy but it doesn't sound like you have the remotest symptom of that. People with heatstroke normally fairly awful and need hospitalisation, youd' know if you had it.

Hollowvictory · 19/04/2019 16:53

🙄

dementedpixie · 19/04/2019 16:54

How would a slight bit of sunburn affect your baby?

Holidayshopping · 19/04/2019 16:55

Anyone had sunburn before and everything been ok?

What a bizarre question!

Thatsnotmyotter · 19/04/2019 16:56

I was heavily pregnant through the heatwave last year. I’m sure I must have burned a bit at some point although I was mostly too hot to spend too long in the sun. A bit of sunburn, whilst not ideal for you, will have literally no effect at all on the baby. Some women work out in fields all day in hot countries until they deliver babies.

Karigan195 · 19/04/2019 16:56

It’s sunburn. You’ll be fine. Might take a while to lose the patch of colour as skins more sensitive but it’s nit going to effect the baby at all so long as you keep hydrated

Hollowvictory · 19/04/2019 16:58

You don't have heatstroke. You don't need litres of water and cold towels blah blah. Drama llama

IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 19/04/2019 16:58

I'm more impressed you're growing a baby in your neck!

1990carey · 19/04/2019 17:01

@Thatsnotmyotter thank you that's reassuring, I know it may have seemed a silly post but this is my first pregnancy and I have really bad anxiety so needed a little reassuring

As for the rest of you how dare you, I'm a very anxious first timer, I have no idea what I'm doing or if what I'm doing is wrong or could be harmful. SORRY I was worried and cared about my unborn child. I THOUGHT this sight was about helping and reassuring women. Obviously not.

@IAmNotPatientOrPregnant hahaha. I was worried I may have got myself over heated more so. A baby in the neck, that would be interesting Haha!!

I always cover up, keep in shade and use sunblock even in winter because I know so many people who've died of skin cancer so I completely understand hating the sunburn, but it is just a slight redness. You've not blistered up so it's not sever sunburn and it won't have any bearing on your pregnancy.

Heatstroke is the thing you want to worry about and you've got no signs of that at all.

You've just had a day in the sunshine. That's good for you! Enjoy the rest of water weekend and don't panic about the sunburn!

TheInvestigator · 19/04/2019 17:07

*severe

*Easter weekend!!!

Sorry about the terrible typing!

1990carey · 19/04/2019 17:17

@TheInvestigator thank you so much, that's really helped. As stated I suffer from really bad anxiety so sometimes I over worry even when I know everything's fine and I'm just being silly, thank you!

I think you'll be ok.
I'm not an anxious person but I worried about the silliest things when I was pregnant and understand. People could be kinder sometimes. Smile

GingerRogers84 · 19/04/2019 17:22

Ps
Also remember that if you're worried about anything, your midwife is always there to reassure you. They understand what a worrying time pregnancy can be!

HJWT · 19/04/2019 17:27

I always get burnt, badly! Never had a problem because of it, I really recommend the Aldi baby suncream me and DD used it today and its the first time in my whole life iv not come home burnt! (Been at the beach to) 😁

TheInvestigator · 19/04/2019 17:30

Oh! On the topic of the Aldi sunblock, my kids' nursery teacher's brother is a dermatologist who works on that kind kf stuff and that's what he recommended every use at the nursery!
That was a few years ago but I'd assume it's still just as good!

lljkk · 19/04/2019 17:33

I'll be shot for asking, but maybe this thread will go poof, anyway.

What IS the difference between being a drama llama & being "very anxious" ?
Coz they do seem similar a lot of the time.
How does an observer tell from the outside?

viques · 19/04/2019 17:35

Put it this way OP, you've had a day in the sun and topped up your vitamin d intake .

To be honest if you are old enough to be pregnant you are old enough to know that unless you cover up and stay in the shade a sunny day at the beach is almost always bound to end in a bit of glow.

I hope you are a bit more sensible about stuff when the baby arrives.

HJWT · 19/04/2019 17:36

@TheInvestigator its brilliant, I am as white as a ghost and not one ref patch today 😁

HJWT · 19/04/2019 17:36

Red* 🙄

meditrina · 19/04/2019 17:39

Sometimes, realising how ridiculous people find your question can go a huge way to setting your mind at rest.

Yes, sunburn damages your skin and adds to your risk of cancer later on. No, maternal sun exposure has not been linked to any changes in utero whatsoever.

Yes, you will need to keep your newborn out if the sun, and use sunscreen, sunhats and maybe UV clothing assiduously throughout childhood. You can safely supplement vitamin D if that is a concern. You cannot make sunburn safe.

AuntieStella · 19/04/2019 17:41

For anyone after recs for cheap/good sunscreen: ASDA own brand so screen is a consistently high performer in Which?tests.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2019 17:43

All the supermarket own brands do well in tests and tend to have a 5 star UVA rating unlike some of the big brands
