How long did your induction take?

How far gone were you when you were inducted and how long did it take?

I am booked in tomorrow and I'll be 40 weeks and looking to set a "she will be here by x day at the latest" scenario! Although, of course I'm hoping it just happens by itself today 😂

Any tips also gratefully received x x

I was induced at 40+1 after my waters going on the due date but not going in to labour. DS arrived 28 hours after the first pessary inserted. I had the drip after 12 hours.

The only reason labour was so long was due to DS being back to back and I'm sure it would have taken just as long, if not longer if I'd gone in to labour spontaneously.

It's different for everybody, you will come across people who have babies within hours of their pessary being inserted.

There were two pieces of advice I'd heard and followed mainly. One was to keep as active as possible while the pessary was in, I paced my labour room and got on all fours rotating my hips for hours. The second was if offered the drip, consider an epidural before the drip so it's working before the intensity ramps up.

I was dead against having an epidural but by the point the drip was offered, I was exhausted and ready to have some respite.

I think mine experience is probably almost the worst case scenario (time wise - certainly not pain and health wise)! I went in at 42 weeks, had pessaries for 3 consecutive days, they then broke my waters as nothing was happening, then put me on the drip as still nothing. That did nothing to so they offered (and I accepted) a c section. So DS was born on 42 weeks + 4 days.

greyby25 · 14/04/2019 14:15

I was 39+6 when I had my induction for RFM. It took 2 hours after my pessary for me to start feeling period like pains and then probably 2 hours after that it ramped up a notch. I had pessary at 2pm and had first pains at 4pm. By 6pm I was getting a tad more uncomfortable. Laboured all night and all day and had my daughter at 4pm the day after my pessary. So when I was exactly 40 weeks. It was a pretty good induction, it was no more painful that I had expected and I managed to get by on warm baths, paracetamol and codeine and one shot of diamorphine, however I did have terrible terrible sickness but I think that was karma biting me on the ass as I had zero morning sickness. Good luck with your induction !

Tips from me would be don't stress if it fails, it's frustrating but not the end of the world they will try again! If you need pain relief take it, if you feel like the midwives aren't listening to them be a bitch and tell them what you need, don't let them tell you how you're feeling, you know your baby and body better than anyone. Deep breaths, walking around and bouncing on your ball will be a good way to help keep labour going after you've started feeling pains and warm baths for me were an absolute god send. Remember the pain is temporary and that love for your baby will last your whole life. Good luck !! Xx

Mine failed after four days...

HarryHarry · 14/04/2019 14:18

Similar to @Doje I was 41+4 and my induction lasted 3 days with zero success, ending in an emergency C-section.

pickleface · 14/04/2019 14:20

4 days. 3 days of pessary which did precisely fuck all then the drip x

PerspicaciaTick · 14/04/2019 14:21

Went in on Wednesday evening. Waters broke on Friday morning. Baby arrived Sunday night. I rather enjoyed pootling about chatting to everyone in the hospital. But do take ear plugs.

Dvg · 14/04/2019 14:47

Had a pessary at 12:30, slept for 3 hours after having diar morphine, got wheeled into delivery room to get my waters popped at 3.30pm but was too late as baby was coming, I declined to push as i was thought i wasnt on drugs so waited til 4.30 until they convinced me i was high from the morphine and baby was born 5:30

Id say the hardest thing was pushing because i kept thinking i was pushing but turns out i was just Making Mooing sounds and clenching my feet hahaha

LetsDoThisAgain · 14/04/2019 14:48

4.5 days before I was ready enough to be moved to the labour ward and a hormone drip was used, gave birth on my 5th day in the hospital on my due date.

LetsDoThisAgain · 14/04/2019 14:49

Take a sleeping mask too.

Doonhame · 14/04/2019 14:56

I was induced on due date but was my 3rd labour so that might have helped?

Pessary in at 10.30pm, taken out at midnight as contractions were back to back. Even with pessary out they were less than a minute apart, babies heart rate slowed so had to spend the rest of labour hooked to monitor & was given fluids. Dc3 was born 6.30am so 8 hours after pessary.

Was my most intense labour but he was my heaviest at 10lb 9oz so could have been due to that.

Hope all goes well tomorrow, keep us updated 😊

Mummyme87 · 14/04/2019 15:03

DS1 induces for RFM and suspicious CTG. one pessary at 8pm on Friday and started contracting at 9pm. Active labour at 4pm Saturday, baby out by CS 9am Sunday morning.
DS2 induced at 39+4 for acute polyhydramnios and suspected late onset diabetes. at 8pm on Friday night had pessary, contracting by 9pm, active labour 1pm Saturday afternoon and normal delivery at 1am Sunday morning.

Fairly decent Inductions but I was so tired by the time they were started which really affected my ability to cope

ajandjjmum · 14/04/2019 15:12

No. 1 Pessary at 6 pm ish, period type pains at 2 am, getting stronger, phoned husband at 7 am and said 'come now!!!', DS born just after 10 am. So 16 hours in all.

No. 2 Pessary at 10.15 am, DD arrived at 11.29 am on the same day. She made my eyes water! Grin

Neither were bad experiences at all.

ajandjjmum · 14/04/2019 15:12

Sorry - and Good Luck OP! Flowers

spdmum2019 · 14/04/2019 17:56

Wow thank you all so much for sharing! I know no two labours are the same but it's good to get an idea of what I might have coming my way. Definitely going to get some ear bud things to try and block the noise out, I'm such a light sleeper!

Waters broke at 37+6. Nothing happened for 48hrs. I went in at 38+1, induction drugs (drip) started at 9am, baby was here by 12 noon Confused

KondoKonvert · 14/04/2019 18:03

1st time I was 41w and I had DD1 28 hours after the pessary. Fairly straightforward. Had an epidural several hours in, had a great sleep and woke up 10cm, ready to push!

2nd time I was 38+1 and induced for suspected HELLP and pre-eclampsia. Pessaries did nothing and the drip didn't do enough. Had a section at 38+5.

snoopy18 · 14/04/2019 21:23

37 + 6 for me :) first timer!

Pessary was put in 8:30pm on the Thursday night - removed Friday morning as my heart rate was scatty, taken down to delivery suite midday, waters were broken for me and baby arrived by 2pm using gas & air through out Grin Squatted him out!

Would do it all over again if someone would guarantee me the same experience haha

Good luck!

Heymummee · 14/04/2019 21:25

I was 39+3 when I was induced. Pessary inserted at 1am, baby born 40 minutes later. It was intense Shock

1sttimeDD · 14/04/2019 21:28

I was induced at 39+3 with 24 hour pessary. 24 hours later, I started a hormone drip and DD was born 9 hours later. We went home 21 hours after birth

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 14/04/2019 21:30

I was induced three weeks ago - one of the things that took longest was waiting for a space on labour ward. So my advice would be to be prepared to hang around through no “fault” of your own.

Macaroonmayhem · 14/04/2019 21:37

Both induced on due date. Both times my cervix was deemed ‘unfavourable” (how rude!) and the first oessary was put in at 4pm on due date. Both times I started getting cramps/mild contractions about 12hrs later, so 4am the next day.

Baby 1 , in back to back position, arrived at 6pm, after waters were broken at 9am, syntocin drip at noon and pethedine at 5pm.

Baby 2 arrived at the speed of sound after three pushes at 7 am the same day.

So both were very similar to start, but different once things got going. But both experiences were fine!

My tips are - keep an open mind, take sucky sweets and get ready because baby will be here soon!!

dontpointatme · 14/04/2019 21:46

I went in to hospital at 11am at 39 weeks due to GD. Examined about 2pm, and they said I was already 2cm dilated. They burst my waters at 3, put me on a drip about 7 I think and I had her at 11:39pm same day. Went home 3pm the next day. It was the very best I could have hoped for!!

Mommaof2x · 14/04/2019 22:26

Started morning, next morning needed another pessary, baby cane that evening. Walk around loads and bounce on a ball, so many result in c sec but you have to be active to have a better chance of that not happening- goodluck
