It wasn't Menna was it. There was a welsh girl called that in Take the High Road.

Bodkin · 10/07/2007 23:05

No, i don't think it was that, but thanks anyway

This list has all of them, just look under 'M' here

Wags · 10/07/2007 23:14

Thats interesting Califrau, firstly I had never realised it was a Welsh name but I always thought it was pronounced Meredith. I will remember that, think its a lovely name.

skidoodle · 11/07/2007 14:22

Wow, it Meredith is a lovely name when you put the stress on the middle syllable.

Might sound a bit wanky if you're not Welsh though.

Bodkin · 11/07/2007 14:51

Thanks for the links. I did Google it and got that welsh names page, there are some fab names on there aren't there, but I don't htink it was any of those either! I'll see if I can do "listen again" on the radio 2 website to find it, otherwise, I'll keep bumping in the hope someone else heard it and remembered it. The girl said it was a very old welsh name.

Here are the welsh names from my baby name book beginning with 'M' with their meanings:

Medwenna (Maiden, Princess)
Meinwen (Slim)
Morgana (From the Sea Shore) (?)
Morwena (Maiden)
Mwynena (Gentle)
Myfanwy (My rare one)

Why don't you go on to bbc website and email them, or email stuart maconie if they have links for the presenter? They usually have some pleb who'll have to dig it out for you, or listen to the show again. Again, go online and i think you can listen to shows up to one week old.

Bodkin · 11/07/2007 16:37

Just tried the listen again thing, but can't get it to work, so will take your advice Walbert and e-mail them.

well sea in welsh is "mor" so it must have been Mor-something

Tinkjon · 11/07/2007 16:46

Speaking as an ex BBC "pleb who'll dig it out for you" , Listen Again is definitely your best bet, if you can get it to work. We used to keep letters of everyone who wrote in for a few weeks, but if it was a caller then it might not be so easy to track down. They will try your best for you though - they're a good bunch

Kewcumber · 11/07/2007 16:48

I think of would probably translate as "o" or possibly "am" or "gan"

Sure it wasn't Morgan?

dont suppose you have a white chest do you Calif?

walbert · 11/07/2007 17:00

Tinkjon: please don't be offended by my referencing to the run around 'plebs' : i cheertily refer to them as i'm the banking equivalent of one!! (And yes, i do agree, plebs do the lovelf arsy jobs no one really appreciates which do help!)
