It was a girl who phoned in .... it started with an M and meant "of the sea", but i can't remember what on earth it was....

am thinking about it as a middle name for this LO if i can track it down....

Althopugh, understandably, my employers don't want me to be more than a pleb because of my frighteningly crap spelling and typing and that!

Babylovesmuffins · 11/07/2007 17:26

Bodkin there's a lovely (IMO) Scottish name "Morven" which is apparently Celtic for "mariner". I like it but DH not convinced... Don't know if that helps but I agree it must be Mor-something if it has anything to do with the sea

emsiewill · 11/07/2007 18:06

I know! I know! I know what it is.....[excited emoticon]

My dh is called Morian, and we thought he was the only one in the country...he heard it on Chris Evans and was amazed to find someone else with the same name as him, especially a girl.

If it wasn't that spelling, then it was something v similar.

He has always been told that his name meant "born over the sea" - his family lived on Anglesey, he was born in Bangor - over the sea....

Am pretty sure it's Morwenna, but here's some pronunciations I found which might jog your memory:

Just checked on listen again (as you all seem to be disbelieving / ignoring me), the little girl phoned in just before the 6 o'clock news (approx 52 minutes into the show), and someone contacted the show just after the 6 o'clock news to say that her name meant "of the sea".

Hard to work out how it's meant to be spelt when you hear Stuart say it with his Blackburn (?) accent - he says it "moriun", but I'm sure that's just him...the little girl also seem to be pronouncing it like that, perhaps it's morien

listen again

dh is very worried that no-one has come back and commented on this - he feels I am being ostracised by mumsnet...

...I would have thought that would please him

Phew! I'm back in from the cold...cheers Califwhatdjemacallit....

If you google dh (and although his first name is crazee, we have a v common surname - so common that it was also my maiden name), you only get results about him...and according to yournotme he is the only 1 with his name in the country.

emsiewill · 11/07/2007 18:56

Aaaarrggghhh, now that's scary (mainly for you!)

Bodkin · 11/07/2007 20:26

And the prize goes to.... Emsie! Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you, these new borns keep ya busy! Thank you so much! It has been bugging me for a few days now! I think it is a lovely name, but I am also quite taken with Morven now, so will have to do some head scratching.

Thanks to everyone who had a guess though
