Hi, so if you have seen any of my previous posts I've not had the easiest of pregnancies to say the least!

My waters broke on Saturday but the hospital I was at wasn't convinced and sent me home twice without doing a scan until my consultant saw my notes and called me back in immediatelyscanned me and admitted me straight away.

Anyway, very long story short, I've been shipped off to a specialist unit at the other side of the country to wait and see... the labour hasn't started thank goodness and I am 100% in the best place possible but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to think and feel.

Has anyone been in this position before and can offer any advice or insight?

Thanks!

No idea about stats. I promed at 32+6 and delivered in 2 hours at 33+4. Obviously much further on than you though.

I imagine they've done a fetal fibronectin test on you. They mean diddly squat BTW, I had a positive test when I didn't labour and a negative test when I did 🙈 (I had 2 prem babies)

Just keep counting down the hours. Every hour at this point counts.

if you're discharged and are concerned about your local hospital would it be viable for you to stay locally to the current hospital for a while? I appreciate it may not be affordable but perhaps you could get a room in a Travelodge or a private Air BnB if you would feel more relaxed that way

miki123 · 30/03/2019 07:26

How are you doing OP? X

Tefiti2 · 30/03/2019 15:23

Hope you’re still feeling well xx

I was discharged on Tuesday but with no real follow on plan for monitoring. As I live on the other side of the country I couldn't be an out patient of the hospital I was in so I had to contact my local hospital to try and continue my monitoring closer to home. I have managed to get an appointment with a consultant for next week, so I just have to hope that I don't go into labour before then... The system really is terrible but all the people have been lovely! The main thing is that baby is still inside and seems happy to be home as she is moving a lot more! My husband is being amazing and not letting me do anything and we are being extra careful with keeping everything clean so I don't get an infection. There isn't much more we can do other than cross our fingers and try to stay as positive as possible!

Also I found some statistics which said that 90% will go into labour within 48 hours of waters breaking. Then 50% of those remaining will be the week after and 50% of those remaining will be the week after etc. So each week I have a 50% chance. I'm not sure of the accuracy of the study though, it was from an american journal from around 5 years ago. Basically every day is a blessing!

So happy to hear that all is still well, though shocked to hear that they haven’t given you a clear plan for monitoring. Thinking of you and please keep us updated! Big hugs x

squee123 · 01/04/2019 08:29

so glad you're doing as well as can be in the circumstances. Baby's outlook improves with every day that goes past. You must be coming up to 25 weeks if I remember correctly?

Lala503 · 01/04/2019 08:47

Hi. My waters broke at 26 weeks.. I was lying in bed at night and they suddenly went- still have chills thinking about that moment!
Kept in hospital for 1 week but then sent home as no sign of infection.

I went into labour a week after I was sent home.. I don't think anything particularly set it off, my body just decided it was time. Many people I've heard of managed to keep them in a lot longer so you could well be lucky.

To cut a long story short he is fine- we never had any significant problems and he is now a happy and chubby 1 year old. I was given steroids and everything else - he was born crying and looking like you would expect just very, very small!
We were lucky. Do try not to google statistics as they can be skewed. In the unit we were in most of the babies, even very tiny, ended up being fine. Each week (or even each day) you go after 24 weeks is a big bonus.

YorkieGirl18 · 01/04/2019 18:56

@miki123 Thank you! I will keep you updated but at the moment no news is definitely good news!!!

@squee123 Yes we are 25 weeks today! I can't believe we have got this far. I feel very lucky!

@Lala503 can I ask how you knew you had gone into labour? I have been advised it probably wont be like a normal labour and is likely to be much faster but having never been in labour I don't really know what to expect...

Yes- I went into labour on a Saturday evening while we were watching tv. Felt some sharp pains like trapped wind but they seemed to lessen when I relaxed so wasn't sure what it was.
It happened again a couple of times that evening but I was thrown off because everyone said it would feel like menstrual craps but it didn't for me! Much more of a sharp stabbing pain.
Anyway around midnight it got really bad and I realised it must be labour. Feel so stupid now as it should have been obvious, but I honestly thought it was constipation Blush

Everyone also said to me it would be really quick but for us it wasn't. He was born after 28 hours. They were hovering to do a C-section if he got distressed but luckily that never happened.

Like you I found the hospital system hopeless and more than once ended up in floods of tears from offhand remarks from nurses or doctors who didn't seem interested. But when the baby is born it's a different world! Once you get past the NICU doors you find the kindest, best and most dedicated team who just take over with all their knowledge. You couldn't move in our unit for consultants and specialist nurses who will talk to you any time of the day or night Smile

miki123 · 08/04/2019 11:02

Hey OP, I keep thinking of you and hoping you and baby are still doing well. Big hugs xx

YorkieGirl18 · 18/04/2019 22:54

Hello! So I was hoping to not have an update for a while yet but last Saturday we decided to chance a visit to a nursery furnature shop. We got home at lunchtime and I went to the loo and faced a lot of blood! (Sorry for TMI). We panicked and called the hospital who advised we call an ambulance and go straight there, which we did. I also started getting the odd tightening. Once at hospital they put me on a magnesium drip and monitor. After several hours they moved me to the anti natal ward and I have been here since.

Ive had a couple more scans which have shown no water at all and the decision has been made that we can push it to 28 weeks (Monday) but not really any further.

We are looking at delivery early next week and I now need to decide on the method...

We've been to see the NICU unit and met the staff who have all been great. I'm just trying to come to terms with everything and thinking about the realities of the next few months.

It's not quite the outcome I was hoping for but I'm trying to stay positive and I know that we are in the best possible place and if the punches are anything to go by, baby is doing great!

Oh YorkieGirl, I have been thinking of you SO so much. I am so relieved that you and baby are ok.

Whilst this must be terrifying for you, both you and baby have done amazingly to get this far and it sounds like your little one is a very resilient little super star!

I haven’t been through what you’re going through, so I can’t offer advice, however I will be thinking of you so so much on Monday. Please give us an update when you can.

Sending SO much love your way...xxx

YorkieGirl18 · 19/04/2019 08:30

Thank you so much @Miki123! We're using everyone's positivity and hoping and praying it all goes ok! I will update when I can! Xx

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 19/04/2019 09:10

@YorkieGirl18 I know this must be a really scary time for you. I just wanted to say I have 2 sisters who were born at 28+3. They are now 15 and you wouldn't know they were born early at all. 28 weeks is a significant time when it comes to survival and long term health. Good luck xx

Motheroffeminists · 19/04/2019 09:40
