Hi. I’m 39+4 today. I had a big bloody show yesterday so I’ve been excited/anxious that something could be happening soon. I went for my routine midwife appointment today and I have high blood pressure (158/88) previous readings from other weeks have been around 112/65, and a high level of protein in my urine. I’ve been sent straight to the pregnancy assessment unit at the hospital. It’s so busy here and I’ve been told I’ll be waiting a while to be seen. My midwife at the appointment said I could either be sent home if they’re happy with everything, but there’s a possibility they might induce me if they’re not entirely happy especially with me being so close to my due date. I’ve got my hospital bag in the boot of my car just in case. I’m on my own and feeling pretty scared right now because my fiancé is 2.5 hours away from hospital at work so it’s gonna be a while before he gets to me. What have people’s experiences been of this in the past, are they likely to induce me today?!

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with my youngest. I was sent down to be assessed on the monitor and they decided to induce me. Luckily it was on my due date and Christmas Eve so it was pretty quiet. About eight hours later my DD arrived. They didn't want to burst my waters until my blood pressure had come down but it had been fine all the way through my pregnancy. When they decided I was ready to be delivered and had my waters burst literally minutes later she appeared. The midwives were taking bets on me being the first to deliver Christmas Day but she came at 10.58pm on Christmas Eve lol.

You'll be fine, try not to panic. Do you have anyone else that can come and wait with you?

snoopy18 · 18/03/2019 11:50

Try not to panic - you’re in the best place and will do great :)

Stinkytoe · 18/03/2019 11:53

My twins were born at 36 weeks because of pre-eclampsia, my blood pressure was ridiculously high.

Don’t be frightened, you’re in the best place and basically full term - you and baby will be fine.

crosser62 · 18/03/2019 11:57

I had pre eclampsia with both of mine, had them at 37 weeks.
It was managed really well, I felt safe and in good hands the whole time.
My no was nearly 200/101 though and that was on medication to bring it down!
It was all absolutely fine, healthy baby and then healthy me after the birth.
You will be fine.

CaseofEllen · 18/03/2019 12:36

@Gobletoffire no experience with preeclampsia but also 39+4 today and just wanted to wish you the best of luck! Your baby will be absolutely fine and by the time you've seen midwife and been assessed etc your DP should be able to get back before they start induction if that's what they choose to do xx

Thanks all. My sister is with me now, DF on his way from work too. The protein in my urine is looking worse than what it was at the midwife this morning, it’s now got 3+s out of 3. I’m hooked up to the monitors at the moment for the heartbeat and movements to be traced and then got to wait for the consultant. They have said that if my cervix looks ‘favourable’ then they may induce me in the morning

@Gobletoffire glad you have someone with you now and DP is on his way! Try to relax as much as possible, you're in the best place. Take care x

cranstonmanor · 18/03/2019 14:45

Good that they are taking it so seriously. Good luck with the whole proces.

Chutneygloss · 18/03/2019 14:53

I went in for a routine blood pressure check and wasn’t allowed home. I was admitted straight away, waited minutes for a bed and next day baby was born fit and healthy. They might not let you leave hospital to go to car park to get bag. My advice is to notify everyone you want to know, that you may not be going home today. Good luck. X

Igottastartthinkingbee · 18/03/2019 14:56

Good luck OP. I had pre eclampsia at 31 weeks (BP topped out at 210/110 needless to say I was pretty poorly!). Baby was as fine as a 31 weeker can be but I wasn’t in great shape. Obviously this may not happen to you but I actually got worse after the baby was delivered. Apparently this doesn’t always happen and is more common in early onset PET. But after 48hrs things turned a corner and I’m now fine (7 years on!). So just be prepped for lots of monitoring post birth and it’s possible you may not improve immediately post birth.

Anyway I should think they’ll just induce as you’re almost there and your results are getting worse. I hope all goes well and at least you are in the right place. If they do send you home DO NOT HESITATE to get back in touch with labour ward if you don’t feel right. My high blood pressure symptoms were very odd sensations across my body, not always the classic headaches and blurred/starry vision. So be extra cautious if you’re at home. Good luck.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 18/03/2019 14:58

By the way it didn’t take 7 years for me to get better! It all happened 7 years ago!!!

Helsvamp · 18/03/2019 15:04

What they do was hook me up to machine to check my baby's and mine heart beat and rest for a hour. Then I have to fill up a big bottle of urine during night. And then I was induced in morning. A couple hours later I was in labour

Gobletoffire · 18/03/2019 19:43

Just to update you all, I was sent to labour ward for induction. Turns out I was already 2cm dilated and they managed to break my waters quite easily. Not long till baby is here, not going to lie I am so scared!

Good luck op! Flowers

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 18/03/2019 19:46

Good luck Goblet x

PoohBearsHole · 18/03/2019 19:50

I was kept in for pre psia then sent home, then back in and induced but I wasn’t dilating as they wanted. BP then went sky high after induction and they decided a c section was the best way forward for both of us.

I won’t lie, it was scary BUT I’ve just sent the 11yo to bed (we aren’t in uk so it’s later here 😊).
All was fine in the end, both absolutely fine I promise! I was super tired after c section but had no lasting issues. Good luck and look forward to baby cuddles imminently x

Igottastartthinkingbee · 18/03/2019 19:51

Oh good luck OP! I was told that inductions for PET are often pretty swift affairs so I have fingers crossed for you.

zebrapig · 18/03/2019 19:52

Good luck!

I've had pre-eclampsia twice and ended up with EMCS both times. You're a lot further on than I was so hope it all goes smoothly for you. Can't wait to hear of your new arrival!

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/03/2019 07:04

Hope all is well op

HogMother · 19/03/2019 07:13

I had preeclampsia, but it played out differently to yours. We are both well 2 years on, but it was difficult and frightening at the time. They should keep an eye on you after the birth, and you might get medication if the blood pressure doesn’t settle naturally. Apparently most women’s symptoms reduce after the birth.
Hope all is going well

Gobletoffire · 19/03/2019 07:35

Thanks all. Baby Reuben was born quickly and safely at 04:28am weighing 7lb 3oz x

Igottastartthinkingbee · 19/03/2019 07:54

Brilliant! Well done, I hope you’re doing ok now. (told you it would be quick!)

thefirst48 · 19/03/2019 08:12

He's beautiful, congratulations to all!

DustyDoorframes · 19/03/2019 08:22

Congratulations!!! I had a very similar experience to you, and an easy recovery (my BP did go up again a few days later, but it was all fine, just meant tablets and more visits from my lovely midwives)
