Hi everyone! New and possibly pregnant?

Hi everyone. :)

I love reading threads on mumsnet. I've read threads on here for years- often led here by search results. ;)

A big wave to everyone. hello Halo

OK, I've never been pregnant before, but I'm currently 12 days late for my period.

I've had pain several days before my period was supposed to be due, right through until now! During the days before my period due date, as the pain increased, I took ibuprofen on 3 separate occasion ( 1 tablet each time over the course of a few days). I had no reason to doubt it wasn't my period as it WAS around my period due date, for one.

Secondly, I've been having trouble getting pregnant for over 9 years.

Today, I decided to take a pregnancy test! The last time I did one was probably about 7 years ago!
As you do, I'm doubting what I saw. I absolutely regret not taking a photo now.

When I did the test this morning, the control section came up with a quick clear line, and the test section started off with a faint line which gradually got darker within the 5 minute reading time.
Because it wasn't " as dark " as the control line, I doubted whether it was really a line.

It was a mixture of " can this be true" and confusion and " no, it can't be." I suppose I wanted something to scream out at me. Blush
So we went out and tried to look for the digital clear blue, but couldn't find it at the supermarket, but whilst out our feet let us to our GP surgery!

We walked in, and I told the lady at the desk " I THINK, I could be pregnant, and I don't know what I need to do next."

I know having a photo would help you all judge better Sad sorry I haven't got one, but what are your thoughts so far?

I have another test, which I'm planning to do 48 hours later. Is that the best thing I can do right now?

Meanwhile the lady at the front desk at the gp said that the midwife comes in on Fridays ( ironically we'd just missed her today! ) and that I should receive a call from the midwife.

Thank you everyone. :)

If there was a second line then you are pregnant, do another in 48 hours as your HCG should double and the line should get darker xx this was my line progression x

Hi. :)

Wow, thank you so much HJWT for sharing your line progression! That's amazing to see. Flowers

If I was to choose which of the 3 mine looked like, I'd say either your second or your third test looked closest to mine.

I'll wait 48 hours (as hard as it is! ) and then take a picture and post it here. This time I'll get hubby to stand with the stop watch on, for certainty. Grin

Should defo be visible at 12 days late! Good luck sounds promising xx

Littleseed · 08/03/2019 20:56

Thank you so much. :) Flowers

I'm hoping having the ibuprofen early on whilst thinking it was period pain, won't have a negative impact? Of course now, any pain I'm getting, I'm just enduring.

HJWT · 08/03/2019 21:00

@Littleseed well I'm guessing that was around implantation time so won't have any effect ! You can take paracetamol but try to only take it if you really need it! Im so used to reaching for painkillers when I have a headache its been hard not to! I will be 7 weeks on Sunday so I know how you feel 😁 x

Littleseed · 08/03/2019 21:18

@HJWT

That's so reassuring to hear. Thank you! Flowers

Aww, you're nearly 7 weeks then, yourself! I wasn't sure if those tests were from the past or the present. I'm so happy for you and a big congratulations to you! Grin

I'm really itching to know because as overjoyed as I am, it feels surreal and I feel so new and not very well versed Blush so I need to do a lot of reading once we can get some sort of confirmation.
Did you just go by the tests? Or did you have any confirmation done at the GP's? Do the GP's get you to have bloods to confirm pregnancy? Lots of questions. Halo

@littleseed make sure you have very clean hands, have a feel around your cervix for changes to your usual -TMI warning--
mine is short, low down thick and very sturdy, it widens like a bottleneck to the base of my uterus- i can feel a bulge all around my cervix like the bottom of an inflated balloon - i am nearly 7 weeks and this is something i check every now and again nods to ladies who check their cm. I am only 13 days late for my AF but i have done various HPT and a CBD. Not seen a doctor or midwife yet, apparently where i live you self refer to the midwife now- and you have to chase up your own folic acid!

If you are NOT pregnant there will be little change and def no bulge to your cervix xx hope this helps as a "free HPT" :)

Littleseed · 08/03/2019 22:37

@Ovacado23

Thank you so much for that insight. :)
I'm worried I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so I'm thinking I'd have to wait for the next test to know for sure.

Aww Flowers congratulations to you. :)
Were all your HPT and CBD positive? When did you start testing?
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that's new to this. Halo
It's difficult when you have to self refer in the sense that things take longer to get around to when you have to do it yourself. I hope you manage to get a referral and get seen soon by the midwife.
How do you go about getting your folic acid? Does everyone get it for free?
You and I are only one day apart with our AF being late. Grin

Thankyou -
I started obsessively testing with cheapies very early on but i believe i ovulated on the 7th of feb as i took a Digital on the 18th feb (12dpo) that said not preg. Retested on the 21st that said 1-2 weeks preg. I only did a digital because of faint lines i got a couple of days before ;) know what you mean about the disbelief and thinking its not real! Hubby didnt help with his underwhelming response!
(pic of 4 cheap test over the course of a week)
sounds promising for you hun if your lines were darker im guessing youll get a lovely digital result ♡Flowers

Ovacado23 · 08/03/2019 23:03

I bought some folic acid (1.99 from boots) months ago when i had my copper coil removed in the prep for ttc running on dregs at the minute ! Im not sure if i have to pay for the prescription i managed to get from drs havent picked it up yet - i thought you were exempt when preg but may not be the case anymore. Saying that id rather pay to avoid a fee (ive had one of them before after pharmacist filled out my form for me?!) Lovely 70 odd quid could have gone to better use :)

HJWT · 09/03/2019 07:45

@Littleseed I ended up having a small bleed, it wasn't something I was worried about but my GP felt better referring me to EPU who did an internal scan, saw a heartbeat at 5+3 which was lovely but I think if you don't have any problems they may do a pregnancy test at most and thats about it x

HJWT · 09/03/2019 07:47

@Littleseed you can get Folic acid in boots very cheap if you are not already taking it I would get some ASAP! Iv been taking folic acid and vitamins since before we TTC and now I'm taking pregnacare x

Triskaidekaphilia · 09/03/2019 10:55

My first test was sort of faint even though I waited until I was 2 days late after a lot of wasted tests and disappointment in previous months. Like the line was definitely visible but nowhere near as dark as the control, but I'd read that a line is a line so I knew it was positive! I think DH wasn't 100% convinced until I took a digital the next day! Grin Massive congratulations to you!

Coffeebrew · 09/03/2019 12:25

Hello everyone,
Apologies in advance if TMI. It seems to be a long struggle with at first unexplained insbility to naturally concieve, so several rounds of failed IVF and now very oddly several natural miscarriages. My gynecologist said to try naturally again and if we get s positive test, go in for hormone and additional support.
Exactly a week early than period due, this week 5th i embarrassingly thought i had wet myself, but turned out to have leaked darkish yet watery blood. On and off for 3 days very light bleeding of pink to brown but not bright red blood, in which time i passed 1 small noticeable clot. No period symptoms, no pain at all, definitely no heavy bleeding with numerous clots which would be normal. 3rd day the light bleeding stopped completely, didn't trail off like a period, just stopped and yesterday, i had a leak of creamy to clear mucus.

Any tboughts on if it could sound like implantation. I definitely 100% don't feel like i have had a period. I normly suffer very bad.

Thanks in advance.

Rememberallball · 09/03/2019 12:37

@Ovacado23, you have to have received the form from the midwife and sent it off before you get free prescriptions. I would pay as usual but get a receipt from the pharmacy - sometimes, if the exemption certificate comes through quickly, you can claim a refund.

Littleseed · 09/03/2019 20:30

@Ovacado23

Thank you so much for posting your lines. It's so so helpful and lovely to see how yours progressed and got darker each time! Flowers

It's so hard not to self doubt, isn't it! This is exactly why I was thinking of going for the digital too. I checked at the local chemist though, and it was £10.99 for the CB one! Shock
Needless to say, I left it.

I thought I'll wait for Sunday morning's test and THIS time, I'll have DH next to me when I do the test so I KNOW for sure what I've seen. Blush

I do feel really surreal, and I am worried at the same time incase I'm jumping the gun, and whenever I get period like cramps, I keep thinking imagine if AF turns up.

Yes! An underwhelming response will only make you more doubtful, hehe! Glad you were proven right though! Grin

Thank you so much for your support. Flowers

@Ovacado23

Shock £70 for filling out a form for you?!! That's insane! Did they even let you know there was going to be a fee?
After your post, I decided to do some research to see what we could be entitled to. I say "could" because I'm still in doubt. Blush

good news though :

Are pregnant women entitled to free NHS prescriptions?
Yes. If you're pregnant, you're entitled to free NHS prescriptions as long as you have a valid Maternity Exemption Certificate or card (MatEx).

How to apply for a maternity exemption certificate
You should apply for a maternity exemption certificate using application form FW8, available from your midwife, GP or health visitor. They'll also need to sign the form.

Send the completed form to:

NHS Business Services Authority
Maternity Exemption Certificates
Bridge House
152 Pilgrim Street
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE1 6SN

Taken from : www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/are-pregnant-women-entitled-to-free-nhs-prescriptions/

FREE dental too! Grin

Might as well take what we're entitled to when we can. Knowing our rights always comes handy and everything helps. Flowers

It also states:

*You can claim money back for any charges you paid on or after the start date of your exemption certificate.

When you pay, ask your pharmacist for an official NHS receipt (form FP57 in England or WP57 in Wales) and refund claim form when you pay.*

Sorry if i confused you Grin just meant id learned my lesson and will be making sure to do it right this time - x

Hi @coffeebrew. We suggest that you start your own thread so that you can be given support from other Mumsnetters.
Best wishes

Littleseed · 09/03/2019 22:23

@HJWT

Aww, I'm glad the small bleed didn't worry you. Flowers It's great your GP was proactive and referred you anyway though. It was a lovely opportunity to see that precious heartbeat. Halo

I'm not really sure what to expect because I have Poly and several fibroids and was referred to gynae to address that issue as well as infertility, when this suddenly happened! So now I'm a bit lost about what effects (if any) those things could have on this new news ( that I'm still waiting to confirm. Wink )
If tomorrow's test does show positive, I'm wondering what my GP will do about my referral and what measures will be taken to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Aww, thanks for telling me about the folic acid! If tomorrow is positive, I'll get some and start taking it ASAP.

Congratulations to you hun. Flowers

@Triskaidekaphilia

Congratulations to you! Flowers That's lovely news and lovely that you took it to be positive and it was! Hehe, I'm like your DH right now, and unfortunately I was impatient to wait for my DH to be around when I did mine, and so by the time he came, the test line was nearly as dark as the Control line, which I'm guessing is due to the ink spreading after the 5 minutes reading window. So I couldn't get his thoughts! Sunday morning couldn't come any sooner, haha. Waiting 48 hours has been loong.

£70 is still so harsh though.

Hopefully tomorrow morning I can post my second HPT results here and get your thoughts. Flowers
