Early pregnancy - tiredness and nausea

SurreyisSunny · 01/03/2019 19:35

I’ll be 6 weeks tomorrow. Much wanted IVF baby. First scan week after next and trying to be positive after a MMC last year,

This last week I’ve been ridiculously tired and feeling nauseous when hungry. Been going to bed super early, sleeping on the train and then yawning all morning. Is this usual this early on? I had an eye infection last week and wondering if it’s due to that. I did not feel like this last time so hoping could be a good sign.

Going to miss my evenings is I carry on going to bed before 9pm.

Yeah that sounds like the first trimester. Eat little and often and keep hydrated. Some people find taking a snack to bed to eat as soon as you wake up helps with the nausea. It won't last forever.

Justanother123 · 01/03/2019 19:41

Yes completely normal. I’m 11 weeks, terrible sickness from 5 weeks which has eased a lot so I am able to function more but oh boy the tiredness! I’m working full time and I just collapse onto the sofa when I get home and I’m in bed by 9pm! I’m hoping the tiredness will ease soon as well. It’s hard work growing a baby 😊

hopefulhalf · 01/03/2019 19:42

Normal I would say

Newyearsameoldshit · 01/03/2019 19:49

Annoyingly normal! Will hopefully ease up when you get to the promised land of the second trimester.

freedles · 01/03/2019 19:52

I used to be in bed every night between 8.30 to 9pm in the first trimester. Now I’m 20 weeks I’m back to normal and can manage 10.30/11pm at a push. Just listen to your body and go with it... it will improve 😊

melissa1215 · 01/03/2019 19:55

@SurreyisSunny I'm having an ivf baby too!! I'm 8 weeks, and feeling EXACTLY the same as you. I have no energy at all, when I'm hungry the nausea is intense and I've had a couple of other side effects, sore boobs, bloating.. I've been exhausted pretty much since I tested, midwife says it's completely normal and I should feel abit better in the second trimester xx

BertieBotts · 01/03/2019 19:56

So normal - I can't function in early pregnancy beyond showing up at work, fulfilling my responsibilities there, eating (preferably food someone else has made) and then showering maybe once or twice a week. I am just exhausted other than that and sleep.

Rest, your body is telling you you need it. It does get better in the second trimester and then comes back in the third but not as bad.

endevo · 01/03/2019 19:57

My MMC pregnancy felt very different to my daughter and my current pregnancy. So tired and sick, can really tell the difference when it is going well. Good luck xx

YessicaHaircut · 01/03/2019 20:00

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and that sounds about right - I’m knackered by lunchtime at work and have been getting into bed around 8pm every night, asleep by 9.30. Also feel really sick if I’m hungry so have been eating like a hobbit (breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon etc Grin). This is our first baby after several years of trying and much heartache so am trying to see all symptoms as a positive thing! All the best.

SurreyisSunny · 01/03/2019 20:06

Thanks all. Very reassuring.

I was on a video conference today at work and felt bad for those speaking as I must have looked so bored as yawned my way through.

I’ve just done my Tesco order with lots of snacks!

Congratulations to you all too x

Echoing the above, but good to hear it from others. I’m 8 weeks and shattered, in bed by 9 every night (if not earlier). Had to cancel plans as too done in to go out in the evenings 😂

TheRhythmlessMan · 01/03/2019 20:29

I remember this exhaustion well. DD now 9 months old.

What I'm always amazed at is how women cope with this exhaustion with a second one on the way. How on earth does one get the rest they need with a toddler running around, for example? Confused

Newyearsameoldshit · 02/03/2019 07:23

Go to bed as soon as the toddler does - it's really hard work!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 02/03/2019 08:16

This is how it was for me for about 18 weeks. The tiredness was debilitating!

MyBreadIsEggy · 02/03/2019 08:18

Yep. Totally normal, and also fucking horrible at the same time Confused
I’m now 11+3 with my 3rd baby and you’d think that 3rd time around I’d be prepared for the delights of the first trimester Hmm I am not. This pregnancy has hit me like a bus. I feel like a vomit stained zombie most of the time Blush

Lisalou88 · 02/03/2019 17:06

Yip I’m 8 weeks and feel exhausted every minute of every day, and also having to constantly eat or else I feel sick. Felt like this since about 5ish weeks. I have no idea how I make it through the day in work and then come home & go straight to bed, even cancelled plans to go out in the evening as I just have no energy at all!

SurreyisSunny · 05/03/2019 19:34

Thanks all, great hearing this is so normal.

So Saturday planned to go out... cancelled too tired.

Tonight, it’s 7:30 and wondering how soon i can go to bed. Had half my dinner. My diet is very odd at the mo as really not fancying much. Chicken burger and milkshake at lunch went down surprisingly well ;)

Sleep as much as you can and eat whatever you like!

Teddyreddy · 07/03/2019 06:25

The other thing it can be worth doing is adding in a midday nap at the weekend - those extra few hours sleep can not only make the weekend more enjoyable but also help with the following week.

How is your OH? DH struggled to be sympathetic with DC1, I think he thought I was over egging it given how small the baby was. He was much better later in pregnancy when he could see how big I was - when I actually felt much better than I did in the early weeks. ...

SurreyisSunny · 08/03/2019 19:25

@Teddyreddy I’ll try the nap idea. I have no plans this weekend other than sleeping. No OH, doing this alone, my choice, it was now or never.

Whoever called this morning sickness must have been a man. I’d call it all day and all night sicknessI. Me being off chocolate is seriously odd.

Hi I've just joined as I've found out I'm 7 weeks with my fourth child. Nausea and tiredness is becoming a real problem...I'm so down and feel like I look a mess most days where I'm just so worn out from being pregnant and having 3 children already, work and now constant all day nausea! Why do we do this 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I even have dreams that I'm sick and wake up sick! It's taken over 😭😭 all I can say is I hope this stage passes for you quickly and that I totally understand how you are feeling. There are vitamins I've started taking which can apparently help with tiredness as well as give the growing baby what it needs. All the best x

secretlyhermione · 09/03/2019 17:43

I'm with you ladies! I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and extreme fatigue is probably my biggest symptom. I'm in bed most nights at 9 and on the weekends take a midday nap. Getting through the full work day is tough, I literally collapse when I come back home.
A little nervous about next weekend as I'll be in Spain with two girlfriends and it's bound to be quite active. I'll probably have to spill the beans just so I can get away with resting if I really need it. Very much look forward to the heralded second trimester. Also finding it quite lonely as mood right now is not very sociable and not being able to tell anyone is hard! Am bingeing box sets and documentaries to get through it!

Hobbes39 · 09/03/2019 17:59

Hi OP - I am 10.5 weeks with also a much wanted IVF baby - which as it turns out is actually 2 babies 😱 and tiredness is my main symptom.
I have a DC(5) and I remember with that pregnancy it was the same - but this time round its def been even more so (don't know if that's age, or the twin aspect!)
Anyway, I was having all day nausea - but was never sick - between week 6&9 basically, but that's has mostly gone now and tbh I found that terrifying (I've had 4 failed pregnancies before this, the last 2 MMC) and I thought the worst, but had a check scan just last week and all was well. So just wanted to warn you, that while you are probably waiting for the tiredness and nausea to lift, it's v disconcerting when it does! I am still v tired (just woken from a nap in fact!) but not quite as bad as I was - having had a nap I will now make it to about 10pm I expect...!
Good luck, and just rest where you can - it usually does left better by 2nd trimester - but then a different tiredness starts in the 3rd from what I remember - due to the inability to get comfortable at night! X

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 10/03/2019 06:10

I'm 5+2 and finding it worse when I eat sweet things! And I have a sweet tooth it's very awkward. Food just generally is an issue I get this nauseous kind of acid reflux type feeling. I've found Rennie help a little but only for a while. Also lots of water helps.

SurreyisSunny · 11/03/2019 19:50

Got my first scan tomorrow.

For the last week I have not eaten properly, I just can't face any food. I'm living on chicken and cheese sandwiches, plain food basically. No chocolate and definitely no hot food. My colleague (who is one of the very few who knows) thought it was very odd today when I did not go for the Comic Relief cakes. She also commented that I looked like I had lost weight. Spent all of Saturday in bed. Roll on trimester 2!

Thanks for sharing all your experiences, it definitely helps. Those of you who already have DCs I have serious respect for.
