4 weeks pregnant after 3 recurrent miscarriages (7 and 9 wks)

Hi,

Just found out unexpectedly that I'm exactly 4 weeks pregnant and I'm happy but so nervous because I've had repeated heartbreak and complications with three silent miscarriages over the past year and a half... complete with d&cs that had to be repeated a week later as they "missed bits" and repeat pelvic inflammatory infections.

I'm also worried because, as a result of a rough 2018 and hormones all over the place, my BMI has crept up to 31.

The gynaecologist at the recurrent miscarriage clinic did several tests and couldn't find a cause, so gave up.

I've decided to take 75mg aspirin as I've read this helps with clotting that can harm delicate baby veins and also reduces risk of pre-eclampsia (at higher risk if overweight).

Anyone else been through similar? Are you on 75 mg aspirin? Need some reassurance and experienced advice please!

Hi, congratulations! I'm 7 weeks pregnant today after 5 mc's in 2017 (including one MMC at 9 weeks ending in a D&C) then nothing at all last year. I've been prescribed 75mg Asprin and 200mg Cyclogest. I made a GP appointment at 5 weeks and have been on those since then but have my first obstetrics appointment today when I'm hoping to get more advice on what else I need to do. It's terrifying isn't it! Maybe make yourself a GP appointment now and see if they will give you Cyclogest too? Good luck x

Congratulations!

I had 2 mc last year and I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant. I’m afraid the worry never goes away but I’ve found it has reduced slightly over time. I have everything crossed for you.

My Dr also recommend baby aspirin which you are taking.

Bambii · 01/03/2019 23:07

Thank you ladies, your words are very reassuring, I've re-read them several times! Smile

You are welcome. By way of update I had a scan at my appointment yesterday and all was well with a good heartbeat! Please keep me posted on your progress too x

Bambii · 02/03/2019 08:55

That's fantastic news! Congratulations! Will keep you posted. 6 week scan appointment booked for March 13th x

@Bambii congratulations! You sound as though you’ve really been through the mill with it all.

Just wanted to say that I’m currently 26+4 after a spontaneous MC, a chemical and a MMC.

The chemical wasn’t a medically recognised MC and as I’ve had a previous live birth to term I wasn’t eligible for testing.

I just wanted to say, my BMI is higher than yours but when I was having my DD (she was conceived after 2 MC’s) it was 30 so just a point under yours and apart from a bleed at 7 weeks, I had no issues with that pregnancy or her birth at all. It was all very easy and straight forward.

Bambii · 02/03/2019 11:27

@currantbeings that's really reassuring! Thank you for the message and good luck x

I have just found out I’m 3 weeks after 2 mc and I’m a bag of nerves. So anxious. Will aspirin really help?
I will do anything that will help me maintain this much wanted pregnancy

lily2403 · 02/03/2019 14:25

My bmi is 31 and I’m older too so this adds to my anxiety which I’m trying so hard to keep in check

Bambii · 02/03/2019 16:05

@lily2403 I feel you, trying to keep myself distracted but it's tough! I'm turning 35 in March so will technically be classed as a geriatric mum (if all goes well).

I had some stabbing pains in my right side yesterday, only in my lower back. I went straight to bed and was fine after an hour. I'm not sure what that was but really hoping it was just stretching muscles due to hormones. Guess I am also super sensitive because of history.

With regard to low dose 75mg aspirin, speak to your doctor and see what they think, do some research too. You're early days so no urgency to start taking the aspirin immediately.

For me I think the benefits definitely outweigh any risks (which I believe are pretty non existent if you stick to recommended 75mg per day only).

Keep us posted on how you go! X

@bambii

I’m 44, and every niggle...well you know

I will try talk to drs on Monday see what they say. I’m trying to keep myself distracted too.

Let us know how you are going to, sometimes it’s just yo day what’s bothering us rather than keep it all bottled up

Lisalou88 · 02/03/2019 16:57

I’m currently 8 weeks after 2 losses last year and I understand the anxiety. I have already had 2 scans at 6 weeks and 8 weeks but I’m just so scared something will go wrong again. I have also been taking 75mg aspirin so hoping that’s helping this time x

lily2403 · 02/03/2019 18:19

I bought some aspirin 75mg but in bold it says don’t take if pregnant or breastfeeding. So am now confused

Hopefulforourrainbow · 02/03/2019 19:54

Hi I've had 3 consecutive miscarriages, no cause. I also have a BMI of 31. I am currently almost 26 weeks pregnant. I've been taking 75mg aspirin and was on progesterone until 12 weeks. Good luck 🌈

sh13 · 02/03/2019 20:16

Hiya I’m 27 weeks pregnant after 3 missed misscarriages , the only thing I did different was take low dose aspirin it could be a coincidence but may be what helps ! really hope this is the baby you get to take home. The first trimester is so emotional an difficult after loss try an stay strong x

Bambii · 02/03/2019 22:20

@lily2403 best to talk to your doctor for assurance, though my packet of aspirin says the same- basically it's warning against taking an adult dose, which would be more than one pill and would not be ok during pregnancy. What the ladies on here and I are doing is taking just one 75mg pill, so a very small dose. I've looked at some recent research and low doses are considered safe.

And...as we are hearing from these lovely ladies on here...low dose aspirin is medically recognised to prevent miscarriage (i.e. their doctors prescribed it). I'm just not sure why only some doctors recommend it. Perhaps it's based on what each doctor's own beliefs are about whether it works? Or maybe some doctors are a little behind on the research?!

Anyway hun, if you do start please sure it's gastro resistant and take on a full tummy. X

@Lisalou88 wishing you the very best of luck! I read that there is a correlation with having more scans and lower risk of miscarriage! Isn't that odd? Doctors can't figure out why exactly but they suspect it's psychological - mummy is more relaxed! So, I hope that reassures you a bit. Smile

I'm probably going to do the same and go for a couple of private scans - if only so I'm not anxious and so I don't work myself up!

Keep us posted on how you get on x

@Hopefulforourrainbow thank you for the reassuring words! I think I should speak to a doctor about progesterone too. What were you on exactly, how often did you take it and how long for? X

Bambii · 02/03/2019 22:28

@sh13 thank you and congratulations! Will keep taking the aspirin Smile x

I think it was 500mg of progesterone morning and night. Pessaries initially then when I had a bleed at 7 weeks and thought it was all over I had to start putting it up the back instead as they thought they were irritating the erosion I have on my cervix. Theres apparently no evidence that progesterone works. I was told at mc clinic to take 75mg aspirin too but to buy it over the counter as it's so cheap. I took the progesterone from positive test to 13 weeks. Was supposed to be 12 but they put me forward at scan. I'm still on aspirin and have been told to take it until 34 or 36 weeks. I cant remember which.

Bambii · 03/03/2019 11:59

@Hopefulforourrainbow thank you for the additional info, sending lots of positive vibes your way x

I just saw this thread and remembered being where you are now so, so intensely - lots of Flowers and good wishes for you! If it's any encouragement at all: I had three miscarriages, two between 5 and 6 weeks and then one at 8. Had recurrent miscarriage tests (including paying for NK cells testing at Coventry) and no issues found. I am currently cuddling my 8 month old - I took aspirin throughout my pregnancy with him and progesterone until 12 weeks; I have absolutely no idea whether that made any difference or whether my time just finally came.

Impulse1 · 04/03/2019 18:39

I had 3 early miscarriages and 1 late miscarriage. My consultant started me on 75mg aspirin as soon as i started TTC - i got pregnant with my daughter who is now a healthy 6 month old. At 13 weeks i had a cervical cerclage and put on bed rest for 8 weeks. At 22 weeks i had weekly progesterone shots. Baby was born at 38 weeks. Im now pregnant again and taking 75mg aspirin.

After 3 consecutive miscarriages u are entitled to a reassurance scan after 6 weeks to confirm a heartbeat-you just need to contact your nearest early pregnancy unit.

lily2403 · 04/03/2019 18:48

4 weeks today and I can’t get of the loo (sorry for tmi) is this normal??
The nausea has hit big time too I can’t stand any food either

Bambii · 04/03/2019 21:49

@lily2403 yes, that's normal! I read that higher progesterone levels lead to nausea and having higher progesterone is considered better. I haven't had any nausea symptoms, going to speak to doctor Wednesday about whether I can go on progesterone supplements as well as my aspirin.

I have worryingly had unexpected bouts of diarrhoea... bit worried I've got a tummy bug 😣 X
