Is private medical care an option for you Paula?

I know it's awful expensive but if you look on your house insurance you may already be partially covered? I know ours cover some to an extent.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 11:36

I have only ever gone private

In that case they should have referred you by now sweetheart. Get on the phone & say you want early pregnancy care as you as you test positive.

Good Luck xo

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 11:41

Yeah, maybe I'll try a new doctor there is this one guy everyone raves about

hope that you get some answers

I believe 3 recurrent miscarriages warrants investigation, sad you have been fobbed off

do hope that this is a happy and healthy pregnancy for you

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 11:45

Hi Paula,
Fingers crossed for you. I've had 3 miscarriages and am currently 23weeks (and still praying).
I managed to get referred after 2 mc's as I ended up having 2 failed d&c's and bled for months which was quite distressing. I think the standard is to be referred after 3 mc's. I'm not sure if they can do many investigations if you are pregnant and the majority are blood tests whihc may be affected by your hormones. But.. if they can't do any tests, then they should at least offer supportive care such as early scans etc.
I am on 75mg aspirin (which apparently doesn't hurt to take and is good if you do have any underlying clotting problems).
The only thing I'd say, which you may have learnt from previous pregnancies is that really early scans are not all that reassuring as they can't always see very much. In future I wouldn't opt for a scan before 8 weeks as I've been left in limbo so many times before.
I have also had acupuncture throughout this pregnancy and it has really helped - even though it is now my fourth pregnancy, I have been less stressed right from the start which I really put down to acupuncture.
If you are eligible for NHS, there is no reason for you to go privately for early pregnancy care/miscarriage investigations - I don't think I'd of had any better treatment if I'd have gone private. So far in this pregnancy I've had 8 scans - all on the NHS.Good Luck that this one hangs in there.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 20:09

I'll keep mine crossed for you as well. I did have a scan with the second miscarriage at 8 weeks but there wasn't a heartbeat. He thought my dates were wrong but I miscarried two weeks later. I still want one at 8 weeks. Thanks for sharing with me. I did get some asprin today just in case that is the problem.

when i had fertility issues thy advised baby dose aspirin until 36 weeks

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 20:18

Baby asprin?

OP posts:
lissie · 05/07/2007 21:09

its the 75mg asprin. i use a range by brunel (stocked in asda) specifically aimed at people with clotting probs. cant hurt tbh..

paulaplumpbottom · 05/07/2007 21:59

I don't know where there is an ASDA, maybe there isn't one here but i'll keep an eye out. Thanks

you should be able to get it anywhere.

lemonaid · 05/07/2007 22:08

They are right in that in most cases of miscarriage if it's going to happen it's going to happen and there's nothing you can do about it, but cases of recurrent miscarriage are often exceptions to that general principle and if you work out what the problem is then treatment can be given in subsequent pregnancies (not always sometimes it's just genuine bad luck). They should really have referred you once you had three miscarriages in a row (which is a pretty tough rule in itself, although statistically justified) making you wait for a fourth miscarriage is just Wrong.

sparklygothkat · 05/07/2007 22:13

am on aspirin (75mg) too, you can get it in any chemist or tesco. Just ask for 75mg.

paulaplumpbottom · 06/07/2007 19:35

I'm feeling better about things today. I took the asprin and am just going to wait till Tues. for the test ( although I know I am ) then go pester my doctor. Just trying to get my head around it, don't know if I have the strength to lose another baby. Thanks for asking Lissie.
