Comfortable non-wired bras for norks on the large side

hi all.

I went into M and S on the weekend to get fitted for a bra as I have had a bit of a boob explosion lately.

The lovely fitting lady went and fetched sooooo many different kinds of unwired bras, lots of which were called maternity bras but in the end, nothing really gave me any kind of decent support except for their total support range which is... well... quite extensive in its coverage and not the most glamorous style in the world.

Now, I've always been reasonably large (DD) and now I am wearing a 36F... surely there are other bras out there that have got good quality scaffolding but perhaps cover up a bit less of my chest and look less... practical?

Has anyone been in a similar situation and have recommendation?

thanks in advance for your help!

also bravissimo are fab

Hi ,

I saw your post on mumsnet regarding bras, and i wondered if you would consider selling any of your worn ones ?

I can pay very well 100 pounds per bra for very large cup sizes. I have a big boobs and bra fetish so if you can help it would be appreciated.

Regards

Dave

I would strongly recommend Matalan! They do a "norks on the big side" section and i have a couple of their sports(ish) type bras which are very comfy and supportive!

EffiePerine · 04/07/2007 22:53

yes, watch out for the strange bra man...

Rigby and Peller are the best for bra fitting, but Bravissimo also have a good range, M&S IME are crap.

jeremyvile · 04/07/2007 22:55

£100 a pop eh?

Woo-hoo, dave, over here you old wierdy.....

jeremyvile · 04/07/2007 23:01

Actually i shall be watching this thread with interest as i have yet to find a bra that is comfy and not of the type that i imagine the queen would wear.
After ds i've shot up to a G and spend most of my day digging underwire out of my armpit because i stupidly like the pretty bras. Though i do have a couple of matronly numbers that are absolute bliss to wear but sadly not to look at!

RGPargy · 04/07/2007 23:05

Oh i would LOVE to wear an underwired bra that isn't stuck in my armpits/side boobs.

[wistful-look emoticon]

I had the same problem...went to a 34G! Why the hell are attractive maternity bras only done upto a DD cup?

In the end the ones I bought were from John Lewis: they do ones going up to at least H for around £25, which are quite attractive and supportive. They also do a cheaper range, but they didn't provide much support. Or I wore Shock Absorber ones. At the same time the fitter advised me that when BF I would go to a J cup...at which point I nearly cried.

I soon realised tho that unsexy bras were the least of my worries when pregnant - and also many of my "smaller" friends weren't wearing anything much better.

Don't forget to use Clarins anti-stretch mark oil!

For the last week I've been back in pre-pregnancy bras for the first time in 15 months - and it's FAB to be wearing them again...a slight compensation for the sleepless nights?! Not that DH notices - he's hallucinating from lack of sleep!!

You can wear underwired bras when you're pg (in case you didn't know that). The important thing is that they fit properly and the wire doesn't sit on the breast tissue but it should never do that anyway.

Bravissimo are great and gave me good advice when I went to them, practically in tears due to the hideous soft cup bras that the woman in M&S had tried to flog me.

I recently bought a lovely Freya nursing bra from them that is soft cup and actually gives decent support so that might be a possibility if you want to stick to non-wired. It's called Rosalie I think.

jeremyvile · 04/07/2007 23:11

RG i sympathise, i really do......my bruised kneecap on the other hand, would like a word with you...outside

RGPargy · 04/07/2007 23:16

whaaa???? Wha'd i do???

rolls up sleeves

jaz2 · 04/07/2007 23:17

Jeremyvile...
Fantasie and Triumph do attractive, supportive and comfortable underwired bras IME.

Tho I guess it does depend on whether one buys the right size. Since giving birth I realise that having a bra fitting (which I used to hate) is a minor infringement on my personal space!

Jojay · 04/07/2007 23:20

Go to Debenhams or another department store that sells brnad names. They'll have a better selection that M&S.

Another fan of Bravissimo too

jeremyvile · 04/07/2007 23:20

Ooh thanks Jaz2.

(actually just realised that mentioning my bruised kneecap on a thread for big norks is pehaps slightly mis-leading and less than flattering to my badungas, so just to clarify, my ds bashed my kneecap with a wooden spoon, he was inspired by RGs trancy doodah thingymajig)

jeremyvile · 04/07/2007 23:28

TMMJ

I got first dabs on dave the perv.

suwoo · 04/07/2007 23:30

I am a 30E normally and only went up to 32F when full term, try getting a 32 back in maternity bras!! I vouch for the fab Bravissimo and bought a back extender from Ebay for 3p (or thereabouts). As others have said, you can wear underwired if you want- I did.

Ps, Dave the perv......... I'll accept £50

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 04/07/2007 23:31

Wow - I could make a fortune from Dave! I've at least 7 nursing bras that he could have. That would pay for 2 weeks in cyprus

but yes ahem

RGPargy · 05/07/2007 00:09

Jeremyvile -

You have a week and a half to recover your sore kneecaps before the next instalment......

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 05/07/2007 00:18

Actually Dave, they only cost £36 in the shops, just pretent they're worn and you will save yourself a bit of money
