sorry guys, but if i don't tell someone i'll explode! I had my 20 week scan this morning and as it was our 2nd p/g we decided to find out the sex (didn't last time) on the condition that once we knew we would keep it to ourselves!

Well both dh & myself were secretly hoping for a girl although neither of us would admit to it - mainly because we have a son. And it is a little girl. Poor 'scanner' had to deal with me in fits of tears - i just couldn't stop! Now we are so delighted but we can't tell anyone, so i am trying in vain to contain my delight!!

Also, i was amazed at how sophisticated the scans have got - we could see inside the brain, artieries to the heart, blood vessels within the umbilical cord ..... and we had a lovely lady talking us through it (who just made me cry even more!!) so all in all a pretty good morning!

I had my scan today............ and I'm having a girl too, could hardly believe it, DH is in such a state of shock that I don't think he believes it is his! His parents have 10 granchildren already and only 1 is a girl.

emilys · 13/08/2002 09:53

congrats paula1 - i was lying in bed last night and suddenly thought of you (is that v.sad!!! - not being rude of course!) i think there's a 'girl thang' going on at the moment - esp. in december !! did you find it emotional? I find it amazing how it changes the bonding process - you really feel like you can begin to get to know your little person ! How was the scan, did they take you through every minute detail? Names? Well done!

Congrats to you all! I've found out in both pregnancies what sex the baby is - which, as someone mentioned before - I feel has really helped me bond to it (him - in both cases!). We haven't kept it a secret either time, and have chosen the name in advance too.
It was a good job I think that that we wanted to know the sex first time round, as the radiographer could hardly keep a straight face! Ds had one hand behind his head, and one on his willy - a typical boy right from the start
2nd boy due in 8 weeks - at least we know we don't have to buy any more clothes!!!

Paula1 · 13/08/2002 19:52

Yes, Emilys it was a real shock, I was soo happy I could have cried. It was an incredibly detailed scan, but the sonographer did quite hurt me where she had to keep digging about in the same place in my belly! I couldn't actually see which bit she was talking about when she said it was a girl, but we did see everything else in minute detail. Names - Holly Jade, I had picked the Jade part before that dozy bird on BB3 hopefully everyone will have forgotten her in a couple of weeks!! Have you got names yet?

emilys · 14/08/2002 09:23

well done! Hopefully jade is a 'temporary thing' although i wouldn't be too sure of that!! But i keep reminding myself and everyone else that as soon as the little person is born that name becomes them and all other connotations (sp?!) disappear. At least you don't have to worry about Percival anymore - that's my brother's middle name - it made his graduation day very amusing!! Is this your first?

P/s aloha - sorry only just seen your message - yes dh is a kinks fan!!!

No, my second, I have a DS who is 4 1/4 and starting school in September. How about you? I went to Next yesterday and bought the most adorable pink snow suit with teddy bear ears on the head. My mum bought her a little denim dress and tights!! I have to say though, I found myself looking at the boys clothes a bit wistfully, don't know why. Anyway, have now been banned from buying anything else until later (much later!)

emilys · 15/08/2002 10:22

i have a ds - 2 1/2yrs - good timing on your part - you'll be able to get a bit of rest before it all starts again!! i know what you mean about the shopping - i can't let myself by anything because if i start ......! Looking at the moment for maternity wear -i'm amazed by the lack of choice, after i had ds everyone started doing maternity wear - hennies, beneton etc. so this time i thought - cool - lots of nice clothes!!! But they're all still drab and boring! have you had any luck anywhere? Anyone? Maybe it's just because of 'end of season' time .........

H&M and Next have been favourites for me, I can't wear any of my normal clothes, just a couple of size 12 pairs of trousers that I've bought, but I get so sick of wearing the same things, and I'm not really big enough yet for the maternity things I've bought.

aloha · 15/08/2002 22:21

Hi Emilys - I love Grace too. But Lola is also pretty. Any progress with dh yet???

emilys · 10/09/2002 11:49

aloha - sorry only just found this message!! dh went through a time of liking lola - but his latest is holly Lola because it sounds like Halelulia (sp?!) poor child!

how are you feeling PaulaT - now that all the scans and other exsciting bits are out the way - it's a waiting game - although i feel quite happy to wait at the mo! ds is convinced i've got harry potter inside me!

I'm not too bad Emilys, I've been sleeping a bit better since my consultant agreed to my repeat c-section, I had been having panic attacks about it, she said it will be around 16th December, so less than 14 weeks to go. I think I need to start christmas shopping now, so that I don't end up staggering/rolling round the shops like a weeble. Also, realised how far DS school gate is from where I'll have to park the car, so I've been investigating new car chairs that clip onto prams. How are you doing?

melaniespeaking · 11/09/2002 19:57

I already have 2 boys and was desparate for a girl. Went privately to find out what it was, then bottled out. I felt I couldn't change it, and so lived the rest of the twenty weeks in confusion/certainty that it was a boy!!

Eliza Grace Tallulah Light arrived on 8.7.02!!

When the midwives told me to see what the baby was, I was so shocked I thought she was a boy without a willy. The midwives thought I'd had too much gas, but I just couldn't believe it - she even came home in blue!

Enjoy your little girl, it is very different from a boy -but both are babytastic!!!

emilys · 12/09/2002 14:09

paulaT - that's good about the c-section if it's put your mind at rest and now you cn PLAN to your hearts content!! Will the school help you out in someway if they know you've had a c-section? Maybe they could 'lend' you a teacher car space for dropping off / picking up. I was thinking about starting xmas shopping today - everyone thought i was completely mad - so i'm glad you said that! I have been given a one to one midwife which is great - will meet her next week - ds has suddenly taken an interest which is lovely.

thanks melanie - i've heard from various sources that boys just get on with it where as girls are a constant battle over everything! Gross generalisation - but i ca imagine it in our hosuehold - ds was baby from heaven, surely that can't happen twice!
