hi, please forgive me for the long story, but I need some advice, doctors don't seem to be doing anything major to help me.

so basically, im on what we now think is my 5th miscarriage (to be confirmed on sunday when I got for my third set of bloods).

i found out I was pregnant on Thursday 24/1/19 and i was due my period on sunday 27/1/19 which didn't arrive. so I was sent for an early scan on Wednesday 30/1/19, which is stupid because my clearblue digi said 1-2 weeks which would be impossible to show on a scan. they then did bloods for beta hcg, they came back at 60, they told me I was miscarrying, but ive had no pain or bleeding what s ever, I feel totally normal and have the usual symptoms of pregnancy! this is not like any miscarriage ive had the past 4 times. my bloods were repeated 48 hrs after, so today 1/2/19. they called me not long after and said my levels had dropped to 44, I still have no bleeding or pain and still have the pregnancy symptoms. I have to go back on sunday 3/2/19 to have repeat bloods to be 100% certain, and if I have no bleeding or pain by then surely something isn't right?? that would be 5 days from when they've originally told me im miscarrying... im totally confused and in so much emotional agony through all of this. its taken for me to come onto here to peak to you guys as im not confident the doctors have any interest in my situation because of my age. (nearly 21, partner and I have been together 5 years, financially stable and want nothing more than our own family).

thank you!!!!

If your hCG has gone down from 60 to 44 then I'm sorry but you are miscarrying. It might be more of a chemical pregnancy at this stage and you might just have a late period. It's good they are doing repeat bloods just in case the 44 was a mistake, but I'd be wary of getting your hopes up.

Are you under recurrent miscarriage clinic at this point? You should be if you've had four. Your age is nothing to do with it, in fact it makes your issue more unusual because younger women tend to have lower miscarriage rates.

Thanks for your advice, yeah I'm under one of those, but they just seem to be taking baby steps like talking aspirin etc, that's done nothing for me, I personally think they should be doing a Laparoscopy to possibly come across the problem with their own eyes, I've had countless scans and mri's to see if they could find anything that would be causing it and nothing ever shows. It's starting to really affect me emotionally and I'm just not sure how much longer I can deal with the constant heartache of it all x

Sorry to ask - have you had the foetal tissue tested at all? That's their recommendation after 3 or more as it can show up any genetic issues which may be present. If you haven't I would try to insist on it this time. If there's any history of recurrent miscarriage in your own or your partner's family I'd push this and/or push for karyotyping.

Other than that there are some blood tests they can run. Laproscopy is unlikely to show anything in this case. But sometimes it does just come down to unknown causes and they can recommend aspirin, progesterone, high level folic avid and so on.

There's a nice support thread in conception though I can't see a recurrent MC one any more, I bet they'd talk to you though even if you're not ready to try again: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/3494922-TTC-after-pregnancy-loss-tread-28-Bfp-will-be-coming

Nope as I've never made it far enough to actually pass a fetus. I've been taking aspirin since the day I found out I was pregnant as advised by the recurrent miscarriage consultant but in this case it's done absolutely nothing for me. They've ran bloods to check if my blood clots, under active thiroid, they literally don't know what's wrong with me and for me that's really infuriating to have to keep on going through this😫😫😫. They kind of just fob me off, I'm now considering going private, which I don't really want to do but I feel like it's my last resort as I'm emotionally drained right now through all of this xx

Well you could ask for karyotyping. That would show up a chromosome translocation which is the issue DH and I have. It's apparently the cause of 2-5% of recurrent miscarriage cases. The current guidelines say it's too expensive to karyotype everyone who presents with rmc but that foetal tissue should be tested and then if abnormal genetic results are found it gives you a reason to test the parents, but if they aren't getting any to test you think they'd run the test anyway. If they won't do this that is something you can get done privately.

jadew0108x · 02/02/2019 19:48

The rcm consultant mentioned that to me, but she said it would mean I'd have to go past 8 weeks so they could actually take the fetus which scares me that they're waiting for me to carry up to 8 weeks. I'm just so drained and scared that this is it for me, I'm starting to slowly give up now, I can't keep going through this it's awful x

BertieBotts · 07/02/2019 16:07

Well no if they karyotype you (and your partner) they don't need any fetal tissue, just your blood. If they did that for DH and I it wouldn't have worked because we don't get past 6 weeks with our translocation. We did have a healthy baby in the end but it takes a long time.

You're right under NHS guidelines they won't karyotype without fetal material as standard, but I'm saying you could ask whether in your case they'd do it without. If the answer is no at least it gives you a reason to go private.
