4.8mm NT result at first scan

Hi all,

I had my 12 week scan yesterday and it showed I was further along which was great. So 13 weeks tomorrow. But when they did the scan they found the fluid at the back of the baby's neck to be measuring 4.8mm. I got offered a screening test so I accepted. Today I had my blood results and it came back high risk with a chance of Down’s, Edwards and Patau.

So me and my husband decided to opt for the CVS testing for an accurate result. I now have an appointment Monday morning at 9am to get this done. Scared yes but I know it needs to be done.

Has anyone else had anything like this and what was the outcome like? We have a daughter already who's healthy no issues.
I'm just feeling drained and my positivity is disappearing.

Thank you

So today I feel so anxious... as much as I want this over tomorrow I'm now second guessing the whole thing.

9am Birmingham women's hospital...

I know once we are past this hurdle we can see where the path leads us next

Hey B0bb, so sorry you're going through this - it's incredibly hard.
My daughters NT was 5.something and she had lots of additional fluid in lungs and stomach. I was told the prognosis was very poor, had an amnio, got clear results back and went on to deliver a healthy baby. The medical professionals I dealt with through everything were absolutely amazing and I felt very well cared for.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, I remember very clearly how terrifying it all is.
I hope you get answers quickly x

B0bb · 04/02/2019 05:24

@Newyearsameoldshit thank you..

That's lovely you went in to deliver a healthy girl.
It's just a dark cloud over us at the moment and u feel all excitement and happiness has stopped.

I hope today goes quick

Good luck for today .. please make sure you ask that your baby has a full micro array of possible . Not just tested for the 3 they are at risk for .. fingers crossed for you .

B0bb · 04/02/2019 07:02

@hendricksy thank you.

I will. I will see what they say to me first and go from there.

Thank you for thinking of me/us

Well everyone just to update. Baby was scanned again I think everything looked fine but the fluid had increased to 5.7mm. So all being well I will have to have a scan at 16 weeks.

The procedure was fine.. I do feel a wee bit sick but other than that I'm ok. Me and my husband both had our bloods done as well for the micro array screening.

Thank you all for your support. Apparently Thursday we should know so fingers crossed.

So glad it's all done and out the way and you're okay. Can you take it easy today and watch some trashy tv/read/whatever floats your boat?

I hope Thursday comes quickly x

B0bb · 04/02/2019 10:29

@Newyearsameoldshit thank you.

Yeah she said no heavy lifting or cooking so husbands duty now. She said I may get spotting later with some cramping. Anything heavy though I must ring up and let them know.

Apparently husband can take me for food Hmm so there we go lol.

Just take it easy really

I would take it easy today... you would get such a shock if you had a bleed... even though I felt okay I made myself chill on the bed for the next day and watch Netflix. Thinking of you on Thursday xxxx

B0bb · 04/02/2019 10:38

@le42 yeah I think I will. Thank you!

They were lovely there which was nice, made me more relaxed. I had a tense left leg all the way through the procedure lol.

I had a 1 in 12 for my son but came back clear I opted for non vasive test

Imperfectsusan · 04/02/2019 13:48

My sister had an amnio to test for Downs, but everything was fine. Very stressful time, obviously.
Good luck.

B0bb · 04/02/2019 14:51

@Helsvamp @Imperfectsusan thank you both .. it's gonna be a waiting game

Good luck ..great that they do the micro array . As I said before that wasn't available when I was pregnant with ds 8 years ago .. in some ways I'm glad because he may not be here ( prognosis was bad at birth but he is a little joy ) .. did they give you an idea of how long you have to wait ?

I spent days in bed because I was so worried I would miscarry ( I had a very physical job at the time ) so take it easy .

B0bb · 04/02/2019 15:46

@hendricksy bless you. I don't blame you it's a weird time isn't it.

Thursday we should know. I'm on the sofa chilling and have been since I've been back. I feel ok, haven't really had any pain as such, but I am relaxed now it's done.

Just gotta keep busy for the next few days. Even though hubby is helping when I ask for something he looks at me as if to say, bloody hell cant you get a drink haha.

hendricksy · 06/02/2019 14:24

How are you doing @B0bb ?

B0bb · 06/02/2019 15:04

@hendricksy I'm ok thanks. I showered and went out today. Now I'm back home I feel anxious again but hopefully tomorrow we know where we are. I probably won't sleep tonight.. I can feel the nervousness creeping in.

How are u?

Thank you for your kinds words and support guys. I know we aren't out of the woods yet but it's a start, and it's a boy
