This is a question for those of us who have not yet had a sexing scan or who didn't want to know the sex of their baby.

I'm convinced that i'm carrying a boy, more out of want than anything else tho i think. I'm so convinced I'm having a boy that when i saw an advert for free boy's baby clothes from 0-6 months, I was literally just on the verge of hitting reply to say "oo yes please!" when i suddenly realised that i do not, in fact, know if i'm having a boy or girl!

It'll be interesting to see if mine and my DP's instincts about carrying a boy are correct when i have my 22 week scan at the end of July.

What about you? How strong were your instincts and were you actually right?!!!

my DF was so sure she got blue clothes and bought a blue bugaboo!

Mossy · 02/07/2007 11:49

RGPargy - great name btw!

I don't know how, but I knew I was having a boy. In fact everyone who I knew, knew I was going to have a boy! Obviously there was a 50% chance, so quite good odds, but they were all right.

The sonographer at my 19 wk scan said, "so what do you think you're having?" I said, "a boy" and she said, "yep, you're right." And the thing is, I wasn't even surprised!

Anyway said boy is waking for a feed now so better go...

eidsvold · 02/07/2007 11:51

i was convinced dd1 was a girl - and was right.

dd2 thought she was a boy only cause pregnancy was so different - she would not reveal herself to us at 20 week scan or at 36 week scan!!

Dd3 - thought it was a girl - again correct - again was a little shy at the 20 week scan but sonographer said she 'thought' it would be a girl.

snowleopard · 02/07/2007 11:53

Deep down, I knew it was a girl...

I had a CS and as the baby emerged the surgeon said delightedly "a healthy boy!" - I was thinking, um what, surely he can't mean my baby... what do you mean, a boy?

Took me about 3 days to get used to the idea. (Of course now I think boys are the best)

RGPargy · 02/07/2007 11:58

I remember when i was PG with DS, when i gave birth to him, the midwife said "congratulations you've got a boy" and i remember thinking "well i know that, but is he ok?". I just SO knew he was a boy!

I was so certain DS1 was a boy that in labour we called him 'him' when talking about after the birth! MW couldn't believe we hadn't found out the sex!
I was certain DS2 was a boy too and 20 week scan confirmed this.
Not really sure this time though but I admit I will be shocked if it is a girl!

JARM · 02/07/2007 12:55

With DD1 I was "hoping" for a boy, but thought it would be a girl.

With DD2 I just knew it would be another girl but again secretly hoped for a boy

With DC3 (due November) my gut instinct is telling me its a boy, but secretly, would quite like another girl!

Having private scan at 26 weeks to find out but not telling anyone!

MrsBadger · 02/07/2007 12:56

I have no idea at all (32 weeks)

It came up at the antenatal class (old wives' tales re shape of bump, craving sugar/salt etc) and one girl said 'Oh, we're really sure it's a boy'.
'How come?' we all asked, hoping for foolproof predicition techniques

'The sonographer told us'

That was us told

hockeypuck · 02/07/2007 13:02

With pregnancy 1, I KNEW it was a girl - it was.

With pregnancy 2, I had no idea but wanted a girl so found out at the scan. As soon as I saw the baby before they told us the sex, I looked and said "it doesn't matter if you're a boy I just love you" and when they said "it's a boy" I was really pleased, but also really pleased to have the other 20 weeks to get used to it and get excited about it. Now, I adore my boy and regularly get teary that I once wanted him to be a girl, because I'm so glad he's not now!

Nbg · 02/07/2007 13:08

I was right with my two.
Girl first and boy second.

This time I am sure its another girl but I could be very wrong!
Will find out on the 13th!

Chattyhan · 02/07/2007 13:15

with ds we couldn't think of any girls names and loads of people said they thought it was a boy - and he is!

With this pregnancy we were both shocked when told at scan it's another boy as both thought it was a girl as pregnancy so different.

i feel pretty certain that it is a boy...pretty meaning 99.999999 percent...and thats because i feel the same as last time in many ways (although some diferences too)

however ..th ethings that make me think its a boy may just be things that i feel when im pregnant; as opposed to pregnant with a boy or a girl...for example, when ive been preg i really really like/d the colour blue (when im not i like green)

i think i want a boy...though have fleeting thoughts about having a girl that make my heart flutter...oh gawd knows!!

frazzledazzle · 02/07/2007 13:49

I thought DC3 was a boy as the pregnancy was identical to my previous pregnancies, which were both boys.

But my daughter is 5wks old tomorrow and I've only just stopped calling her DS2 or he

I've got a gut feeling that this is a boy, no idea why. A couple of people at work are convinced its a boy because of the food I'm eating (savoury salty stuff), and because I've gone all hairy lol!

hayley2u · 02/07/2007 16:20

i think you know deep down what sex your baby is before you have them with my son i was positive it ws a boy even did the roo in blue. madness when thinking back and i just knew i was having girl this time and i v had it comfirmed art two scans it is a girl

goingfor3 · 02/07/2007 16:27

I always get it wrong so I'm not going to bother guessing this time. I have a few blue bits and pieces that I found going cheap but figured they'd be fine for a girl too.

LilianGish · 02/07/2007 16:41

Why don't people find out if they can? And if they don't want to know why have nine months of speculation, spinning wedding rings and other old wives nonsense trying to guess? My mil told me she thought it was psychologically damaging to find out the sex - I found out for both mine at the earliest opportunity (and in fact had amnios with both so there was no doubt). I wanted a girl first and a boy second which was what I got - though of course I wouldn't have given a hoot as long as they were ok, I just wanted to get used to the idea of having the "wrong sex" before the birth. Instead my mil wanders around making ridiculous statements such as "She's carrying it at the back - it must be a girl" to which I reply: "This is the 21st century - if she wants to find out she can - otherwise for goodness sake shut up". You can probably tell I feel quite strongly about this!!!

goingfor3 · 02/07/2007 18:27

LilianGish - people don't find out because they want a suprise and it can be fun doing silly things to try to work out what you are having, unless you are a kill joy of course

meandmyflyingmachine · 02/07/2007 18:34

Why on earth would you feel strongly about it? Pleasurable anticipation. What's the problem?

Or is it just all about the MIL?

LilianGish · 02/07/2007 22:08

Sorry - yes. Mil drove me mad!!

snowleopard · 03/07/2007 22:01

In scotland LG we don't get told as a matter of policy (or at least where i am in scotland...) so it's go private or spend a very happy 9 months twiddling rings and filling in ridiculous questionnaires in magazines (one told me i had an 80% chance of a girl - I lapped it up - even though one of the questions was 'what colour knickers have you go on?" )

RGPargy · 03/07/2007 22:20

So, if i wear blue knickers does that mean i'm carrying a boy??

OP posts:
snowleopard · 03/07/2007 22:43

Yes RG! Do keep up!

And if you have both blue and pink knickers and wear them regularly, obviously it's twins (ignore the scan....)
