Am I missing something about the UppaBaby Vista?

Hi!

I’m expecting my first baby in July and I have been doing my research into travel systems. I can’t get past the UppaBaby Vista....of all the reviews I’ve read it really stands out as the best for me. However, looking online there seems to be limited places to buy and websites that have it does not always have them in stock. Are they hard to come by in the UK?

My other question is does anyone have any other suggestions as an alternative to the Vista if I struggle to get it. The main features in my looking for are:

Large shopping basket
Not too heavy
Easy to push/manoeuvre
Easy to fold

Any information would be appreciated. TIA.

We bought the mamas and papas flip xt2 and it has all the features you are looking for

HeyThoughIWalk · 25/01/2019 15:53

I found it useful to go to a shop and try out a few options. Mothercare and Mamas & Papas will both let you do this, but there are local baby shops everywhere which can give really good advice too.

I went for a system that cost about £250 and it's been great (and used fairly regularly), so don't feel you need to spend big money.

We got an uppababy vista from John Lewis and it wasn't hard to come by. Admittedly can't do a tried and tested review as it's not been used yet (baby still safely cooking) but it arrived really quickly and was easy to do. We tried them all out in store. I think they also had it in Mothercare.

Bellafreud · 25/01/2019 15:58

I agree with PP, I did loads of research online and liked uppababy vista best on paper but when I tried it out in person I found it harder to manoeuvre and heavier than some of the others. Really recommend going to try them out and pushing around/folding and unfolding before you make a decision. None of the pushchairs is ideal in every way, you’ll always compromise on something.

Jackshouse · 25/01/2019 15:58

They are very popular in our area. We had a Cruz but swapped for a lightweight buggy after a year.

mommybear1 · 25/01/2019 16:01

I love mine and still use it with PFB at 15 months. I went to John Lewis to try it but purchased it cheaper online. No problem sourcing it - I found it very light compared to other travel systems and boy can you pack a lot on it. Plus it converts to a double and you can fit a buggy board - win!

NanooCov · 25/01/2019 16:01

John Lewis definitely stock it. If you have a JL near you I'd go and have a look as they generally have a wide range of others you can try too. We went for the Bugaboo Cameleon in the end and it has done us well through two kids. Great steering, rugged, etc. Narrower than the Vista too. I think Bugaboo now do a version that folds in one (rather than having to remove the seat first) which sounds like an improvement but I haven't tried it. Think it's called the Fox?

greendale17 · 25/01/2019 16:05

My friend has one- it is so smooth to manoeuvre, the shopping basket is massive and it is solid. Looks brand new and she is on her 3rd baby

KipperTheFrog · 25/01/2019 16:08

Love my uppababy vista! Got it from kiddicare 5 years ago before DD1 and currently using it with DD2. Love that I can easily steer it with 1 hand - a god send when out with a dog, child and toddler!

NuffingChora · 25/01/2019 16:10

I have a bugaboo buffalo and wish I’d chosen a Vista - so much more functional.

Ohhgreat · 25/01/2019 16:11

Love ours! It's the older model but folds well, easy to push, and the basket is huuuge! Got ours off Amazon on one of their lightning deals

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 25/01/2019 16:11

I've got the Vista - it's at my mums at the moment until baby arrives. We bought ours from John Lewis.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 25/01/2019 16:16

I have the uppababy vista, it’s a brilliant buggy. Very easy to push, huge basket and the newer models are narrowe than mine (which is my main issue!). I’ve had it for over 3years and is still going strong. I’ve used it for two children, it was great to have that option. It also works very nicely with a buggy board. I’d highly recommend it. I tried one at John Lewis, but if you want to order online then Groovystyle baby is an excellent independent shop. Have bought everything from them and they are usually the cheapest around.

BertieBotts · 25/01/2019 16:19

It's really popular in the US because they have fuck all other options (sorry) - that's why you find lots of online reviews raving about it. They don't tend to walk with their strollers in the same way we do. It is worth looking at some UK specific review sites.

I don't think it's a bad pushchair but there are plenty of European ones which do everything you want for way less than a grand. Go to a big branch of Mothercare, John Lewis or somewhere like that and try a few out. If nothing else find a Vista stockist and compare them to other brands. It's madness to drop all of that money without even seeing it in the flesh.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 25/01/2019 16:20

They have them in stock in John Lewis. I've just looked. The 'Gregory' has a three week wait on it but they come in other colours. I picked 'Jordan'.

Amy326 · 25/01/2019 16:24

I liked the Vista too but ended up getting an Armadillo Flip from mamas & papas instead, definitely worth a look!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 25/01/2019 16:31

I had a deposit down on one when I was looking for a double for when dc2 arrives. I loved how they look- they’re really smart and come in a great range of non-garish colours.

Changed my mind after reading a thread here where a couple of posters pasted it for things that were really important factors for me- weight and manoeverability being the main ones.

I’ve done the cumbersome-travel-system dance already with dc1 and couldn’t face spending a grand to do it all over again!

windy2909 · 25/01/2019 17:00

Thanks for all your thoughts. Sorry, I should have made it clear, I have tried the Vista out at a Pram Centre and a number of other prams there too and it was still my favourite. I just expected to be able to order it with ease online. When I searched John Lewis it came up with a message that it is no longer available to order online?

I think I’ll keep trying others to confirm it is definitely the one I want. I know it is expensive compared to some but my justification would be that because this is my first, I’d get my money’s worth out of it if I was fortunate enough to have other babies.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I’ll try the mamas and papas flip next time I’m out scouting. Open to any other suggestions!

The vista is fab, absolutely love it. I got mine online but can’t remember where from, not much help I realise! I have the 2017 one and it’s basically the same as the 2018 version but slightly wider and way cheaper

SparkyBlue · 25/01/2019 17:19

We love our one. We bought it in 2012 and it's about to be used again for DC3.

Daffodil77 · 25/01/2019 17:21

We have the latest Cruz. We found many of the features much more intuitive on the uppababy models than other brands like bugaboo. E.g. one handed bassinet release, large basket, easy fold, one handed handle extension. We went with the Cruz in the end as it's more compact, but did um and ah over the vista for a while. Been using it for nearly 4 weeks and really pleased. Needed a bit of wd40 on the front wheels but that fixed the swivel issue.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 25/01/2019 17:46

@windy2909 - Strange. I just added the 'Jake' to my basket. www.johnlewis.com/uppababy-vista-pushchair-and-carrycot-jake/p3645428

I didn't want anything other than Uppababy so if you can't add to your basket give them a call.

cardboard33 · 25/01/2019 18:16

The world and his wife have the vista here. It's probs an issue with your cache if you can't add it to your basket as they definitely have them in JL. Have you gone through to the uppababy section via the navigation? Maybe you've got a dodgy link.

Tbh if you want a light weight pushchair then the vista probs isn't ideal for you and you should be considering the Cruz (out of the uppababy ones) but as you've said the vista can be easily converted into a double which is useful if you plan to have kids in quick succession. Due to our situation we may only have one child and if we do then the oldest will be 4 before I have the next so this wasn't a concern for us.

We narrowed it down to the Cruz or the M&P Flip xt2 and went for the latter in the end as we were put off the steering on all of the ones we tried in the shops and ended up getting a really good deal on the m&p one so spent substantially less than we initially planned on the buggy. We don't have a car and live in London (zone 5/6) so decided it was worth investing in a good pushchair.

My Mum got one for £30 from a charity shop the other week for my OH as he's so tall! Couldn't believe it! Shock

CottonSock · 25/01/2019 18:58

I picked something else despite being very tempted as it's too bloody massive
