Mild Polyhydramnios

I’ve been told there’s a bit more amniotic fluid than there should be at the moment & bloods have been taken plus another growth scan for 2 weeks time to see if there are any changes.

I’m at 31 weeks just now.

Anyone had any experiences with this?

Baby is bang on with growth so that’s good news.

Thanks in advance

By the way they call it Mild Polyhydramnios as per the thread title :)

I had this with my first. No reason was ever found and it didn't cause my any problems.

snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 09:20

OMG so glad to hear

I also have had this.
Due to all the fluid, my dd was lying sideways so I was admitted to hospital at 38 weeks and had a planned c section at 39 weeks.
There were no issues though, she was born healthy, and no explanation for all the fluid. My consultant had said it was probably just as she was a bit bigger (8lb 1) as I’m quite petite.

fleshmarketclose · 21/01/2019 12:40

I had polyhydraminos too, had a vaginal birth at term with no problems although it was spectacular when my waters went. Lost a huge amount of weight in the first week after birth what with baby and placenta and waters in fact I was lighter than before I got pregnant within a week. Can be an indicator of gestational diabetes and cleft lip and palette although neither applied to me or dd

So so mild with ds , especially as the guidelines changed for diagnosis at the time, mine was less than 1cm over normal in the deepest pool. All hell broke loose, csection /NG tube at birth/immediate scans for oesophageal fistula were suddenly part of the plan .. I asked for a second opinion, the consultant realised the guidelines had changed and I had a writen apology and her blessing for a home birth (vbac). Both stressful and bizarre. Ds was pretty unstable position wise inutero, but he's pretty floppy exutero too, so I'm sure it wasn't the fluid that was causing it. All the best op.

25 years ago I was kept in at 38 weeks because a natural water break was deemed risky to the cord coming down first. I had a controlled water break at term.

snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 17:17

This is all re assuring so thanks so much 🙏🏾🙏🏾 It’s gotten me in a right panic!

I’ve been so exhausted and breathing is rather uncomfy although I guess this could be general pregnancy related - did you ladies have any similair exp?

Primulas · 21/01/2019 17:21

I had polyhydramnios, but it was associated with a medical condition in my baby which a scan picked up. I second that it was spectacular when my waters broke! It also made me feel very uncomfortable- much more so than in my first pregnancy so it may well be that it’s not helping.

snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 17:25

What sort of uncomfortable @Primulus? Like a water balloon in you feeling? I feel sick when I’m sat for too long too - I’m ok sat on a ball but not on the couch. It’s my first so I don’t know what a normal pregnancy is like I guess.

Primulas · 21/01/2019 17:54

Yes, a bit like I was going to burst! DS1 was two weeks late, but I remember at 32 weeks telling DH that there was no way DS2 was staying in that long. Turns out it was fluid... I also felt sick all the way through my second pregnancy, but it had eventually worn off in my first.

snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 18:00

So it’s not me just going crazy haha thanks for the re assurance. When I’m walking I feel like I’m going to bust wide open and explode. It’s such a gross feeling!

How many weeks did you have Baby 2 at?

OP posts:
Primulas · 21/01/2019 18:23

I had him at 35+5 weeks. He weighed in at 6lb 13oz though!

Primulas · 21/01/2019 18:24

Just to add, I don't think my polyhydramnios was mild, so don't worry!

newmumFeb17 · 21/01/2019 18:31

I had this too, it just turned out that I was carrying a big baby which meant more fluid.
I know how you feel about the panic though. They really panicked me too! But all turned out to be fine. Good luck!

snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 18:35

Did you have quite a lot of fluid then?

They’ve only just picked up on as I went in with reduced movement - sort of hoping it sorts itself out by next scan in 2 weeks time 🙏🏾

Wouldn’t mind if baby comes early as long a short it ends up being ok.

Did you have a natural birth?

OP posts:
snoopy18 · 21/01/2019 18:36

Was yours mild too or more? How many weeks did you have baby at? They did say the baby is a little on the bigger side but gtt test is clear etc

OP posts:
newmumFeb17 · 22/01/2019 13:33

I was induced at 41+4, natural birth. She was 9lb 5oz. I had scans every 2 weeks for the last 8 weeks, and I got told something different each time! Some of them said fluid was extremely high, others weren't too concerned! I did have a huge bump and struggled to breathe for the last few weeks so definitely had some extra fluid. I was 2st lighter the day after giving birth!
The main concern is cord prolapse so they may induce if lots of fluid, but I ended being induced as I was 'overdue' with a big baby..
If yours is borderline it probably won't be a huge issue. Fingers crossed for you!

Aventurine · 22/01/2019 13:34

I had this and dd was fine. No problems

whatthefoxsaid · 22/01/2019 13:40

I had this too and all was fine. I was induced because of it at 38+4 and waters went on and on and on! No issues with DD and no explanation found for the excess fluid.
Interesting that others mention the discomfort, I just assumed that was later pregnancy norm!

snoopy18 · 22/01/2019 14:02

Yay these are so reassuring 🥳

Yeah the cord prolapse and hemmoreging is making me panic - I’m not an anxiety fuelled person generally but this has really freaked me out - I just want myself and baby to be healthy as I can’t wait to meet her/him just want to enjoy it Blush

I had polyhydramnios with my first. I had other complications show up on a 20 week scan as well (which after lots of tests turned out to be nothing.) I was induced at 39+6 because the polyhydramnios got worse and probably because of the dodgy scans too. I got the impression the drs sort of shrugged their shoulder and thought on balance given I was almost at term anyway they may as well get him out to check all was well.

Other than the fact that the room practically flooded when they broke my waters everything went fine and my little boy was completely healthy.

Pitapotamus · 22/01/2019 14:09

Ps. I was then “big” in two subsequent pregnancies but didn’t have polyhydramnios again.

snoopy18 · 22/01/2019 15:30

So glad he is ok and it didn’t effect delivery - did you have a natural birth?
