Mild Polyhydramnios

I’ve been told there’s a bit more amniotic fluid than there should be at the moment & bloods have been taken plus another growth scan for 2 weeks time to see if there are any changes.

I’m at 31 weeks just now.

Anyone had any experiences with this?

Baby is bang on with growth so that’s good news.

Thanks in advance

Yes, I think so - it’s depends on your definition of natural. I had the drip thing to induce labor and my waters were broken with a spike thing and then he was ventoused out. But I think that’s pretty common for a first baby so I doubt anything to do with the polyhydramnios!

My view is that the medical intervention is welcome if it makes things safer - which is always the intention of any medical intervention offered!

Sounds like a positive experience 🙏🏾

Had my follow up growth scan today and to check fluid levels and they’ve reduced bringing it back down to ‘normal’ levels Grin

Thank you for directing me to your post. So reassuring to hear other people's experiences.

Great news your levels are back to normal!! 🙌🏼

The excess fluid was detected at 29 weeks (glucose test fine) then again at 34 weeks (have repeat glucose test next week). Baby is measuring on 97th centile (As was my first baby).

We had just decided on trying to deliver naturally again (after fairly traumatic EMCS) but now been advised to have planned section due to excess fluid, possible gestational diabetes and another large baby.

I'm feeling a bit anxious of the risk of preterm labour. Can they still do section if you go into labour naturally?

Second, and last, pregnancy!! 🤣

snoopy18 · 02/02/2019 19:31

How many weeks are you now?

I’ve no idea about the c section if you were to go into labour naturally but 🤞🏾 For you they book it in before you do 🙏🏾

Did they say how fluid there was at all?

I've been for a scan and have polyhydramnios (26.4cm of amniotic fluid).
I've got bad headaches and struggling to urinate. Is this connected please?

snoopy18 · 14/02/2019 07:15

Hey @loulav mine wasn’t in those numbers so I’m not sure... what did your doctor advise? Ring triage if you’re concerned. Are they monitoring you?

Hi. I've had some bloods taken. Just waiting on results. Got another scan in 2 weeks. I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I'll phone triage . Thank you

So for the majority of pregnancies, it isn't significant- although can be an indication of kidney issues in about 15% of cases- which scans should pick up. Another who had it and it didn't turn out to be significant. With regular monitoring and confirmation of fluid increase amounts, usually isn't anything to worry too much about x

Possibly, you already have the answer to this question, @Missfergal, but yes, that's what they did in my case. I had an ELCS planned, but went into labour a month early Shock so they did a C-section, though technically it was an EMCS again.
Hope everything is going well for all of you!

I had it with my 2nd and 3rd baby. It wasn't mild at all, I was huge and they likened my waters going to a tsunami when they broke them for me both times (my waters have never gone on their own.) I was tested for gestational diabetes and had the growth scans too. My babies were 7.6lbs (38 wks) and 9.12lbs (42+2) and both were perfect with no health issues. If they tell me again I have it, I won't be surprised. I've been small until now but all of a sudden I've popped out as usual at 20 weeks. Try not to worry I've never met or known personally of anyone with complications or poorly baby as a result of it and I know a few who had it too. X

Missfergal · 14/02/2019 19:02

I'm 36 weeks now. GTT test came back negative again but B12 came back as extremely low so have to go for injections. Haven't really had much info about that tho tbh.

Have my consultation and scan next week to assess the fluid situation. I was never told how much fluid I actually had just that I had a lot of it.

I weirdly feel like this one is ready to come out 😳 tummy has dropped and lots of low down pressure. @Primulas thanks for the info on the CS. Xx

snoopy18 · 14/02/2019 23:26

I’ve had reduce movement again so having scan tomorrow again. Wondering if it’s fluid levels again although they went back down - suppose will find out tomorrow 🙏🏾

Hope you’re ok OP!

Just an update, had a planned section last Thursday (39 weeks). Was very welcome as extremely heavy and baby extremely low to the point they had to pull him back up to get him out. Over 2 litres of fluid, 9lbs 11oz baby plus the placenta 😳

Planned section was absolutely marvellous!! Much more calmer experience (although I ended up back in theatre under GA). Recovering very well at home after two days.

Bubs required an NG tube up his nose to test his tummy acids off all the fluids but was all absolutely fine.

Hope things are going well xx

Primulas · 24/03/2019 17:20

@missfergal Congratulations! I hope all continues to go well with your lovely new arrival

GetStrongKeepFighting · 24/03/2019 17:23

I had it and it wasn't a great experience. Had other issues but then at a scan it was quick, get baby out.

Keep an eye on any change of movements, not just reduced amounts.

Good luck.

snoopy18 · 25/03/2019 06:19

Congratulations! So glad you’re doing well & baby is here safe and well 💗 I’m glad your c went well also!

I was induced 8th March as I had another episode of reduce movement - it’s a boy and he came at 6.7kg 💙 So glad he’s out and here so far so good 💙 They had to remove the pessary the following morning and baby arrived shortly after - couldn’t have asked for a better birth experience it was honestly magical 💙

How’s motherhood so far? My hubby went back to work today so it’s me baby and the dog today wish me luck!
