Thinking of adding to the brood but the idea of being classed as an "older mum" scares me! I'm 33

Def. not an older mum at 33.

I would say not an older mum these days until you're very close to 40.

pinkteddy · 29/06/2007 23:28

oh not this day and age - 33 is a spring chicken! Try 40

notasheep · 29/06/2007 23:38

Crikey i had dd at 36 then ds at 41 and i am still being asked whether i will have another one-obviously must look very young for my age

Uki · 30/06/2007 01:01

33 get out !!!!!!!your making me feel old, I'm 32 having second. Even by older standards it was over 35, nowdays you can have one at 62 If you want!!!!!!!!!!

3xamum · 30/06/2007 01:06

I had my third just before I was 33 and tbh it did make me feel like an older mum. I think because my other 2 are that bit older (10 and 8) I don't feel so spring chickeny iyswim. Mind you I work in a maternity ward and a lot of 1st time mums are over 40.

ManchesterMummy2b · 30/06/2007 10:33

According to my dh's cousin's wife (who is a sandwich short of a picnic), I'm an old mum and we're going to be really old parents.

We're 28...

So no, I don't think 33 is old at all!

BetsyBoop · 30/06/2007 13:33

I had "geriatric primagravida" written on my notes last time & I was 38!!

I think 35 or over is the "official" cut off.

I'm classed as very old this time as I'm 40!!

You are only as old as you feel IMHO (and that's very old some days, running round after a toddler at 23wks pregnant! )

lucykate · 30/06/2007 13:36

not old at 33

i was 31 with dd, and 34 with ds

my mum was 35 when she had my brother

lulumama · 30/06/2007 13:48

once you are 35+ you are classed as an elderly mother

which seems a bit daft as most women seem to have their first babies in their thirties!

what difference does being classed as an elderly mum make though, emilytankengine....? if you want another baby, go for it!

daisyboo · 30/06/2007 14:01

i was 33 when i had ds and that seemed to be about average for my peer group. just had dd at 38......and would consider another!

RedLorryYellowLorry · 30/06/2007 14:03

I'm 41 and am ttc no 3. I'm an old mum I suppose but don't really care.

evenhope · 30/06/2007 14:08

Hmm makes me geriatric then. Now 44 with a 3 month old DD born when I was 43

TigiCupCakes · 30/06/2007 14:25

my first at 26, last at 34. I feel a young mum at my sons secondary school (39 now) but maybe i will look old when my 5 yo gets there! Hope not!
So 33 is not old at all. Lots of my friends have none!

Chirpygirl · 30/06/2007 14:37

I was told by midwife in hospital that I was the oldest mother they had on the wards when DD was born, out of over 20 women.

I was 28!

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 30/06/2007 14:38

Well, it depends, if you are sitting with a few 20something mums you will be an older mum, if you sit with me and my firend you would be a young mum

MadamePlatypus · 30/06/2007 14:43

Technically at 35. However, I had DS at 32 and I was the first of my school, university and work friends of the same age to have children, so 33 definitely not old in my neck of the woods.

berolina · 30/06/2007 14:44

In Germany any pg of a woman over 35 is automatically classed as high risk (!) But the average age for a first baby is 30.2 here... I agree with the 'only at 40' view. Other side of the coin: I'm 28, have ds who is 2, am expecting no. 2 in Sept and look (if you only glance at me superficially) a good deal younger than I am (look closer and you realise ). I do get Dubious Looks when I'm out and about with ds+bump. I was at the dr for a chest infection the other day and he said 'oh, plenty of time for no. 3, you're young, only 30' thought that was nice.

berolina · 30/06/2007 14:45

Sht, I'm 30*, not 28 I prob meant I had ds at 28. PMSL!!!

sar123 · 30/06/2007 14:47

33 FGS! that's fecking young these days! in my peer group you would have been considered mad to have started that young.....

Hassled · 30/06/2007 14:55

I was 36 when I had DS3 - I don't suit pregnancy and felt and looked much older (all that vomiting ). Now he's in Reception and I'm by no means the oldest mother in the class. I'd say 33 is pretty average - go for it!

RedLorryYellowLorry · 30/06/2007 15:00

Whre do all the old mums live so I can move there

Lilymaid · 30/06/2007 15:05

I was an elderly primagravida at 33 (but that was years ago).
