Any one else gone off meat?!

Hi, I'm 14 weeks today and over the past couple of weeks have started to go off meat completely, despite being a pretty committed carnivore before getting pregnant. It started with chicken (which I always considered the least offensive of all the meats!) but now it seems to be everything. Has any one else experienced this? I didn't really suffer from MS so it's not like I associate meat with feeling sick or anything like that.

Yes. Both times.

LadyFromLondon · 15/01/2019 15:39

Yes, I've gone off chicken big time!

LauraMB13 · 15/01/2019 15:43

Glad it's not just me!

I went off veg, could eat them raw, stir fried or lightly steamed but not boiled or in a stew.

Sexnotgender · 15/01/2019 15:48

Totally! I’m 39+3 now so back to eating pretty much everything but I went off all meat and most vegetables.

Pre pregnancy I ate mostly low carb, for the first 20 weeks or so I survived on toast and digestives.

Sproutsandall · 15/01/2019 15:49

Yep, went off meat completely for the duration. It came back, though.

Spargle · 15/01/2019 16:06

Yes, to varying extents on different days. I’ve also gone off fish quite a bit, but not always - salmon yesterday for dinner was good, and I ate most of it. I’m 17+6, so over the worst of feeling sick (wish the last little bits of feeling sick would go away too, though!).

tryinganewname · 15/01/2019 16:07

Yep and I haven't gone back to it after pregnancy either - fully vegetarian now and I couldn't be happier about it (always felt guilt for eating meat!).

chxjw · 15/01/2019 16:09

Yes!! The sight of chicken used to make me sick Confused

stackhead · 15/01/2019 16:10

Yep. Everything except a ham sandwich. Doesn't make me feel sick, I just have a proper aversion to it.

Springmummy19 · 15/01/2019 16:12

@LadyFromLondon snap! I've tried about 4 times in the whole of my pregnancy to eat it but I've puked each time,. I just cant do it

LauraMB13 · 15/01/2019 16:13

This is really interesting, thanks for all the responses!

Yep im not much of a meat eater as it is/was but with my 1st pregnancy went off meat couldn't stand the taste or smell. Smelling meat cooking made me heave.

With my 2nd I craved it especially beef.

Back to normal now though.

Hairgician · 15/01/2019 19:51

Ive gone off nearly everything at the min. I have had some of those youngs battered cod done in oven with a little pink salt and mayo and small amount of mushy peas. As for any other meat or fish, no thanks. And cant stand the smell of it cooking.
The joys.
Also off tea and coffee, and water is difficult too, had to get oh to bring me a bottle of coke last night, the original not the sugar free one. Never usually touch fizzy drinks but it hit the spot today .

3boysandabump · 15/01/2019 19:57

I did in my second pregnancy

Triskaidekaphilia · 15/01/2019 22:15

Yes! I can occasionally stomach a bit of bacon, and often crave taco bell with beef in, but most meat disgusts me most of the time. Have gone off eggs too so relying on cheese and pulses for protein.

FrowningFlamingo · 15/01/2019 22:40

Yes, sort of! I'm 36/40 now but in the first trimester I would have meals where I'd be completely averse to the meat in them. Had to take it off my plate. It was really variable so would be fine the next day with the same meal. And I never knew it was going to happen until the plate was in front of me. I took to ordering vegetarian meals when out just in case. It's totally stopped now.

Endofrelationship · 15/01/2019 22:46

I went off red meat, particularly steak and lamb. Was fine with minced beef though. Chicken I've never been a fan of. To be honest I struggled with red meat after pregnancy again, unless it was heavily flavoured, such as in a curry sauce. It's got worse again in this pregnancy. Such as shame, as I used to love a rare steak!

And I'm also allergic to beans and soya so getting enough protein is becoming an issue!

Outedsochanged · 15/01/2019 22:50

I did, couldn't even walk down the meat aisle in the supermarket without heaving! The second time it's how I knew I was pregnant a couple of days before the test showed it! Lasted until the day I gave birth with both.

Mummy2one2016 · 15/01/2019 22:51

I had a totally aversion to ham. Got up one morning opened the fridge to get out the milk. Honestly though something had died and been in my fridge for weeks. Turns out it was the ham. I still can't stand it and weirdly my little boy hates it to the point he boaks if he even sees it.

PumpkinParent · 15/01/2019 22:55

I went off red meat in particular in my second pregnancy: just the sight of it made me want to throw up. I couldn’t get enough green vegetables though and went mad for cabbage, broccoli, beans and courgette. Weirdly I had entirely different aversions and cravings in my first pregnancy.

Justus22 · 15/01/2019 23:14

Yes pretty much all meat. Can have it in a sandwich that someone else has made but I can't cook it and when I do it comes to it and I don't touch it. Big into salad and halloumi or mozeralla atm. I'm off tea too-always happens. Really bad morning sickness though I might add and super thirsty as I always am pregnant x

PBobs · 15/01/2019 23:22

I have days where I don't fancy it and days where I really want it. I did cook an amazing dinner the other day with minced beef, had one mouthful and hated it. I had cheese and beans on baked potato instead whilst DH scoffed the lot. Envy Grin

sirmione16 · 15/01/2019 23:33

Very common.

For me though, I've never eaten red meat and the smell of it would repulse me. At 18 weeks I craved burgers. Now I eat meat. So weird.

Thetigerwhocameto · 15/01/2019 23:58

Yes, DH loved it and had double meat 😂
