Bottles - which brand are you going with ?

I'm going to try breastfeeding at the beginning, but with my last baby I only lasted around 8 weeks then switched. Even if I do continue I'd like to be able to pump and give the occasional bottle .

I can't decide which brand to go with. I'm torn between Nuby and Tommee Tippee. The teats look very similar. I would probably go with Nuby, I have 2 unused bottles from last pregnancy that came with my pump, but they're quite chunky bottles and I'm not sure which steriliser I'd go with?

I had been planning to order the Nuby steriliser that also dries but the reviews are awful !

Does anyone have a favorite brand ? Any opinions on one or the other ?

I liked the closer to nature TT ones but that was 10 years ago! I've been thinking of bottles recently, I just had a microwave steam steriliser with my 1st, no idea if thats still ok or not. Everything seems more shiny and expensive this time round, prams included Shock

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/01/2019 18:30

@11yrgap The TT ones seem to have good reviews to be fair, I think I probably will end up going with them. There's an offer on in Argos at the minute with a TT steriliser with 4 bottles, milk dispenser tubs and a few other bits for £35! I'm just not sure on the steriliser it looks quite small. I'm sure the microwave ones are ok, they're still sold anyway !

Tell me about it ! Everything seems expensive. I never buy full price though I always wait til there are offers on . I thought I was going to get away with using the same buggy this time round but think we may have to buy a double ! Annoying as it'll probably not be used long

We used tommee tippee close to nature and happy with them. We use a Milton cold water steriliser. So simple and easy.

11yrgap · 05/01/2019 18:49

Ah that's good to know. I had a microwave one because I was living with my parents and felt like I haf taken up their house with baby stuff so it was kept in the microwave as they didnt really use it. Think it only held 4 bottles but I used to steam them then make a couple of bottles (when DD was feeding every couple of hours. Although of course when health visitor came I was making one at a time. Lol)

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/01/2019 18:52

I did think about the Milton one actually , it looks a decent size ! How often do you have to change the water/new steri tablet @Vanannabananna

Haha @11yrgap , I got a TT perfect prep machine last time and it makes bottle making so much easier. It's one thing I think is definitely worth the money

Thanks I'll look at those online.

I liked the mam bottles because you could just sterilise them in the microwave without an actual steriliser

Vanannabananna · 05/01/2019 21:29

Every 24 hours, one tablet or liquid. We use the Aldi sterilising fluid.

LeeCee · 05/01/2019 21:29

I just picked up those today @annlee3817 - hoping to breastfeed and just needed some emergency back up. They seem like the lowest maintenance option

KateTTC123 · 05/01/2019 22:02

Another vote for mam bottles here. My lo was a 29 weeker and was eventually able to both breastfeed and take mam bottles happily. The nurses in the NICU said it was amazing how well designed they were to mimic breastfeeding.

PBobs · 05/01/2019 23:12

We're going with MAM because of the self sterilizing as well as the reviews on ease of feeding. I'd like to EBF for the first 4 months or so and then switch to mixed feed before weaning.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 05/01/2019 23:15

Another vote for MAM here- the self-sterilising function was great and would mean that you could do away with a steriliser altogether.

DD wasn’t fussy about what bottles she accepted, but I didn’t like the TT as the teat was so wide I found you had to hold the bottle practically vertically so baby wasn’t sucking on air.

Tailfeather · 05/01/2019 23:35

Another Mam fan here. You just whack them in the microwave to sterilise them.

Angelmiracle · 06/01/2019 02:24

Mam self sterilizing

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 06/01/2019 02:45

I've gone with the Hegen range this time around

HJWT · 06/01/2019 03:24

When the Asda baby event is on they sell 6X TT newborn bottles for £10-£15, we had those with DD and was perfectly fine, next time though i will be getting the self sterilising MAM bottles, I want to breast feed full time and use a bottle on the odd occasion so don't want a big bulky steriliser sitting on the side for the sake of maybe once a week use!!

Also the TT microwave steriliser work fine to with the TT bottles, we took one on holiday with DD and did the exact same thing as the electric one.

KeysHairbandNotepad · 06/01/2019 03:33

My advice is to not buy too many of one brand. I bought a TT kit complete with 8 bottles and my son couldn't drink from them because of the width of the teat. I then had to spend a further £60 on bottles he'd actually drink from.

annlee3817 · 06/01/2019 08:51

@leecee every baby is different. I breastfed until eight months and MAM bottles were the only ones that my DD would then take when I reduced breastfeeding at 7 months :) she obviously liked the test for those ones. Hope all goes well for you

annlee3817 · 06/01/2019 08:52

Teat not test

Camsie30 · 06/01/2019 08:52

I found the NUK latex ones the best personally

welshweasel · 06/01/2019 08:55

Eventually settled on mam last time after trying loads of others so will be using them straight away this time. The anti colic function is great and the fact you can sterilise in the microwave without a steriliser is so handy.

Jackshouse · 06/01/2019 09:01

If you are planning on bf then don’t buy any bottles. You can get them delivered with 24 hours or send someone to a supermarket for them.

Tommy tippee ones tend to be reflected by bf babies. MAM, nuk or dr brown are all good bottles.

Spanglylycra · 06/01/2019 09:03

We found Tommy Tippee too gassy but e very one so different. We used Dr Browns and Avent. Agree with the poster who says don't spend too much on one brand until you know they like it!
I got through sterilisers quicker that most people I think I must have over used?? The avent one was ok if a little tight. Medela one was good. My friend had a Boots own brand one that was huge but they didn't sell it at the time when I needed one.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 06/01/2019 09:04

Very anecdotally but - all my exclusively FF friends use Tommee Tippee but not one of the mixed fed/ breast fed for a while then tried on a bottle babies would take them - DS wouldn't, but was happy on a MAM bottle
