Bottles - which brand are you going with ?

I'm going to try breastfeeding at the beginning, but with my last baby I only lasted around 8 weeks then switched. Even if I do continue I'd like to be able to pump and give the occasional bottle .

I can't decide which brand to go with. I'm torn between Nuby and Tommee Tippee. The teats look very similar. I would probably go with Nuby, I have 2 unused bottles from last pregnancy that came with my pump, but they're quite chunky bottles and I'm not sure which steriliser I'd go with?

I had been planning to order the Nuby steriliser that also dries but the reviews are awful !

Does anyone have a favorite brand ? Any opinions on one or the other ?

@Jackshouse I'm guessing 24 hours could be a long time if breastfeeding isn't working out and baby is hungry or you are in pain. I figured better for my mental health to have an emergency supply of 3 bottles and a little formula to take the pressure off 🤷‍♀️

Thanks @annlee3817 everything crossed 🤞

I really rate Mam bottles

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/01/2019 10:41

Wow lots of votes for Mam. Not a brand I'd normally even look at ! I think mostly because theyve always got a pattern on them lol. But I'll check those out ! Self sterilising sounds good.

I used Avent with my first , then I used Avent bottles with NUK teats with my second. I might look at Avent again too just thought TT seemed like the most common /highly rated bran these days

I went for TT closer to nature one hopefully baby takes to it when it arrives!

I bloody hated TT bottles - IME the neck/teat is far too wide and found we'd have to tip baby back almost flat to keep air of of the teat, which is not the recommended position for bottle feeding these days.
This may have been exasperated by feeding small feeds of expressed milk - and baby taking the lot, rather than slightly more generous formula feeds where baby may not finish the bottle. Although even when we gave formula top ups I didn't find them ideal.

In the end our most-used bottle type was Dr Brown's. The shape of the teat worked much better for upright/paced feeding.

I agree with PP who said possibly best not to stock up on one type of bottle in advance in case baby doesn't like it.
Quite a lot of bottle companies will send a sample bottle if you tell them you have a bottle refusing BF baby!

Another Mam here, self sterilising is great.

@LeeCee having ready made formula in the small bottles and a couple of bottles & teats is the smart way to do things

Lou0219 · 06/01/2019 20:02

I’m using Nuby bottles but I do have Tommee anti colic & dr browns anti colic in case we need them xx

Stephisaur · 06/01/2019 21:13

We have the Avent steamer and a couple of Avent bottles.

He gets on well with his TT bottles though, haven’t tried the Avent bottles yet.

He doesn’t give me much chance to express any milk, but hasn’t had any issues taking the TT bottles.

TerriB1984 · 06/01/2019 21:51

I used advent naturals. My BF baby wouldn’t use TT. Fortunately I’d been given the TT bottles by a friend so I didn’t lose out on money. I went to boots and bought 1 bottle of a couple of brands to try and my DD took to avent straight away. I just used Milton cold water steriliser kit as we didn’t own a microwave. You can fit 6 bottles in at once.

CollyWombles · 06/01/2019 21:54

Probably avent, same as my other four DC.

FreiasBathtub · 06/01/2019 21:59

I like the mam self sterilising too, mostly BF DS will happily accept them. Have also been using the Medela microwave sterilising bags for my breast pump, they are a revelation! Probably not much good if you wanted to sterilise six bottles at a time, but so much less bulky than the Tommy Tippee microwave steriliser we had for DD.

HidCat · 06/01/2019 22:03

With my first I mixed direct feeding with Tommee Tippee bottles but he was really easy going and took anything we gave him. This time I've bought the same again but also have a Mam bottle and a Phillips Avent bottle that I picked up free a while back. I've got the TT electric steriliser which I'll put my breast pump, bottles and dummies in regardless of brand.

LittleDoveLove · 06/01/2019 22:29

I've bought the TT closer to nature with anti colic value bundle thing in mothercare. It had everything with it so I've just bought a few extra bottles as you only get 4 little ones included.

Which mam bottle does it need to be for breastfed babies? Or are all teats the same on mam?
