Help me pick a dog walking friendly pram

As per the title, I’m totally overwhelmed by the options and need help.

I want something that works from newborn, will work for walks along country trail type terrain with maybe some cross county or beach type stuff thrown in.

Ideally it will also fold down relatively small and easily (recognising that an all terrain option won’t be as compact as a city or travel pram) for storing in the car and house.

I’ll probably buy second hand should that change what people might suggest.

Thanks in advance

Not answering your question exactly but a sling would be good for dog walking.

billybagpuss · 01/12/2018 17:55

I was just thinking the same thing, everyone I see trying to negotiate dog and pram it just looks like really hard work.

Sunshinegirl82 · 01/12/2018 17:57

Mountain buggy? Won't be the smallest fold but good off roader.

londonfeather · 01/12/2018 17:58

I use my pushchair for similar and have the mountain Buggy swift - I really like it for cross country and it is pretty small and lightn with a one hand fold

GemmeFatale · 01/12/2018 18:00

We are planning on using a sling too, but the in laws aren’t dog friendly so when we met them we normally travel the 200 miles to them, stay at a b&b and met up by walking to a dog friendly pub/cafe (tiring out the dog) have a meal (so they can see us) and then walk back. I can’t imagine this will change much once baby arrives so want a pram that can handle it.

Out and about nipper.

lstef · 01/12/2018 18:12

Second vote for out n about nipper - i am getting one (ive seen some second hand too) - have seen my friend use it and they look great - suitable for off road and trails and look easy to manoeuvre. it fits in my small 08 clio boot too so happy days. You can get a newborn carrycot attachment and you can also clip a car seat into it (maybe with adapters, havent got as far as researching that).

lambdroid · 01/12/2018 22:59

I have a Jane Epic (and has the Matrix car seat which can be used as a bassinet). It’s been great for dog walks across the common, through woods and in town.

It’s not tiny but the back wheels come off so it can actually fit in pretty small boots. Also not super light, but the suspension is good, I love the hand instead of foot brake and it’s easy to steer.

GemmeFatale · 02/12/2018 10:08

Lovely thank you. I see another trip to look at those three options in my future.

I had the Out n About Nipper Double and could push it one handed with both DC in and holding 2 dogs with the other. Was so easy to manoeuvre.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 02/12/2018 11:09

I have had a bugaboo Fox, and it ticks many of your boxes. Folds relatively small, good on rough terrain, compact fold, suitable from birth, good suspension, it’s also quite light, and can parent face, which is a must for me.

GemmeFatale · 02/12/2018 11:43

No one seems to stock the nipper close to me for me to go and look at.

I had a look at the bugaboo yesterday and it makes the list of things to have a deeper look at.

Nipper would do what you want but isn't the most compact fold.

Baby Jogger GT would fit the bill but isn't ideal for running.

GemmeFatale · 02/12/2018 12:48

Worth a look then. I don’t run if I can help it.

Please don't get a 3 wheeler.
Nothing dignified about doing a 360 spin whilst holding an unruly ddog and a pram!!
Ime.

I use either my bugaboo buffalo (previous version of the fox) or City mini gt for dog walks. I love the gt but the bugaboo trumps it in every way for proper dog walking. There's nothing it can't get through or out of. Only catch is it's pretty big and bulky. The gt handles paths perfect fine but would need carrying over some stuff the bugaboo doesn't even blink at.

GemmeFatale · 04/12/2018 17:53

Bugaboo fans. I had a look at a Cameleon (3?) today and quite liked that. Has anyone used one so I can get a first hand recommendation or warning?

Husband wants to look at three wheelers so that means a City trip as no one locally seems to stock them

Personally I didn't like the chameleon as it seemed to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Two of my friends had one and they didn't cope well on anything other than proper paths for dog walking!

misstiggiwinkle · 04/12/2018 18:37

I have a chameleon. Useless for dog walking, so much so I bought a Phil and Teds (I needed a double) which is much more robust, but heavy. I also have a yoyo for travel/in and out of car. Chameleon is a pain to fold. It is fab for city use, brill on and off big kerbs, solid piece of kit and it's now 4 yrs old and looks brand new even though it gets daily use.

I'd go with a sling and then buy a back pack when baby is bigger. Much easier for walks, wheels don't get clogged/stuck. Baby is happy, can carry kit in a back pack.

misstiggiwinkle · 04/12/2018 18:38

There is no one buggy that is good for everything. Hence ending up with 3!

misstiggiwinkle · 04/12/2018 18:42

If you want a Chameleon I'd say an Uppababy vista trumps it as a comparable. The 2015+ version which can be converted to a double didn't exist when I bought mine. I wish I'd had the Vista!

christmashope · 04/12/2018 18:44

Out n about nipper
Ex childminder and I used both the single and double at various times along with taking my puppy for a walk
Definitely recommend it

GemmeFatale · 04/12/2018 18:46

We’re unlikely to need a double. Baby took three years of medical intervention before we got lucky with the ivf.

Ok. So on the list to check out:

Bugaboo Fox (or buffalo)
Out and about nipper
Mountain buggy (which one?)
And maybe the mini jogger?

Mountain buggy wise the Swift is probably the best fit for you based on what you've said so far.
