Hi I'm 37 weeks, waters broke yesterday, meant to be going in for induction in a couple of hours. Getting strong contractions every 5-7 minutes. This is my first and I've got no birth plan, that appointment was booked for next week! I've got to be on the ward not the MLU because of gestational diabetes. Just a bit scared I guess.

Good luck OP. I didn't have a birth plan either. Don't be scared, you can do this!

Keep us updated Thanks

Eeeeek2 · 30/11/2018 06:15

My 'plan' was go with what I felt I needed. Difficult to plan something that has variables and you've never experienced before. Good luck you'll be great.

Wingingeverything · 30/11/2018 07:54

Good Luck! I gave birth for the first time 4 weeks ago, I wouldnt worry too much about a plan. You never know whats going to happen and your baby wont be following a plan so just relax as much as you can and go with it! You can do this!x

Good luck Op!! I had GD to, make sure you keep your fluids up and take some digestives ! They will be pricking your finger regularly which is annoying but hopefully everything will go quickly and smoothly Thanks xx

Baby is back to back so not much fun far, looks like I will need the drip, they thought this morning I might not. There's a lady in the next room who sounds like she's in a huge amount of pain ☹️

Try not to be afraid. I know that’s hard but fear is not your friend! I had a back to back labour with a big baby who had a large head Shock and I’m not gonna lie it was painful but it was also unhelpful to feel panicked. You can do this! Good luck it’ll be worth it Flowers

Sillysausageshi · 30/11/2018 13:17

I had syntocinon with my back to back labour. It was painful but I found it manageable with gas and air but general advice is to have an epidural with syntocinon, especially if you've been awake for a long time.

Good luck, hope all is going ok. I would say take any pain relief you feel you need and try to relax as much as possible (easier said than done!)

You can do this! It'll be over soon. Today's my due date with baby2, I wish I was in labour! I know it's scary but remember there are pain relief options and at the end of it you get your baby Smile

Sipperskipper · 30/11/2018 13:40

You can do this! Also had a back to back labour, it is tough. Don’t worry about a plan. I had a very detailed one, which counted for nothing in the end!

What helped me was breathing in through my nose for 4 counts, out my nose for 8. Out breath being twice as long as in breath helps to calm the anxiety down.

Also, if you can, try and keep your jaw as loose as possible - if you need to make any noise, try and make it deep, rather than high pitched with a tense jaw etc.

Take whatever pain relief you feel you need. I was very worried about an epidural, but ended up having one and it was lovely!

Sending you all the best, hope you get to meet your little baby very soon!

How’s it going OP?

MrsStrowman · 30/11/2018 14:43

Still only 3cm 🙈 on the syntocin now and waiting for the anaesthesiologist, I asked about an epidural and the midwife was very in favour I know they're not always. I've got to say having had ups and downs with various midwives throughout the pregnancy, this one is brilliant, lovely and nice but I feel I'm in a safe firm pair of hands. She retires today which is a shame!

You're baby will be one the retiring midwife will always remember.

I'm due very soon and my current midwife basically told me I was crazy for not having an epidural when I had syntocinon. In hindsight I was a bit of a wally rejecting it.
Good luck!

How's it going OP?

MrsStrowman · 01/12/2018 12:18

Well, I had a combined epidural and spinal - all lovely until the spinal wore off and it turned out they hadn't put the epidural in properly. Because of the syntocin I was getting less than a minute between very strong contractions and went from 6cm to 10 in 45 minutes, my blood sugar dropped and I was shaking uncontrollably I kept saying to them the epi wasn't working but they said to just press the button to top it up, but that made no difference. In the end a different anaesthesiologist came, took one look at the epi and went mad, by this point I was in so much pain and shaking so hard he did another spinal because I physically couldn't keep still enough for another epidural. That stopped the shaking and things calmed down he did or would last an hour but the midwife wouldn't let me push again for an hour! By which time it wore off and I was back to square one. I pointed out the bad maths to all involved and suggested while I was relaxed they could sort out the badly administered epidural. They said no. I then actively laboured for five hours with basically nothing but gas and air as the spinal had worn off again. I became exhausted baby got stuck and I ended up with an emergency ventouse and episiotomy, for which they gave me another double dose spinal for which I had to sit on the edge of the operating table with the baby crowning....

BUT my baby is here now and is adorable 😍😍😍
7pounds 9 at 37 weeks so good thing he didn't go to term!

@MrsStrowman Awee! Congratulations 🥰 that's why I refuse to have an epidural I watched my friends failed one and just had gas n air instead 😂

Pinkhairdontcare21 · 01/12/2018 14:27

Pinkhairdontcare21 · 01/12/2018 14:28

Wingingeverything · 01/12/2018 19:38

Congratulations!x

MrsStrowman · 02/12/2018 16:43

Thanks everyone, unfortunately we're still at the hospital some feeding problems, but I used up my frustration firmly (but politely) telling the bounty rep where to go when she started her hard sell about photos, after essentially bullying the young lady in the bed next to me who'd said she couldn't afford it. Every cloud...
