Contractions whilst walking

Gone for a walk today and had quite frequent contractions (up to every 4-5 min) pulling deep down in my vagina/bum an made me feel I needed to push! Home now and resting, a bit milder and less frequent but still coming, even if I'm just sat on the sofa. Also some menstrual cramp/gas sorts of pains. Might this be early labour? Xx

Sounds like normal Braxton Hicks to me. How far along are you?

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 17:42

39 weeks...been having BH for a couple weeks now and these felt different, coming more often, and also pulling inside and down, had to stop walking and breath. And really felt I needed to squat and push out IYSWIM? Timed some of them, they almost a minute long. Have them still but round every 15 minutes? xx

I would call the labour ward/triage.

Sounds like it could be the start of something :)

Hawkmoth · 18/11/2018 17:47

Get walking again! Gravity is your friend.

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 18:34

Just had another that made me really grimace. Also having some backache and feel it in my bum and thugs as well? Knackered from walking earlier, if I rest a bit will that stop the labour?

These also feel different from my other BH as I can feel a strengthening and sort of peak before they fade and go away? Xx

It could be the start of something! I don’t think the feeling that you need to push comes until much later though, so maybe that’s wishful thinking Wink sounds promising though, if you can’t face more waking then definitely keep upright... have you got a gym ball you can sit on?

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 18/11/2018 18:42

Walking, sorry!

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 18:49

Thank you Smile no gym ball unfortunately but can sit on a stool I suppose. The push feeling just came during the pains, felt like if I pushed a bit my waters might go or like a balloon was ready to pop there? Maybe just her head mashing on my bladder?

She could be pressing down on your waters. Definetly sounds like it could be the start.

Tadda · 18/11/2018 18:55

Sounds like something's working! 39 weeks is perfect- heads probably engaged and that's what your feeling as a pressure when your walking - good luck x x

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 18:58

Oooh thank you all. Though I reckon it's also possible this could carry on for several days? Is it better to rest a bit now (one last night of sleep ever Blush) or walk about and get things moving along? Xx

TulipsInbloom1 · 18/11/2018 19:06

Take the sleep!!

thatsepicbro · 18/11/2018 19:06

I'd recommend getting some sleep as labour can take a while especially if it's your first. Once the pains are too much to sleep through then might be worth walking around staying upright x how exciting x

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 19:10

Thank you all although now perhaps I'm too excited to sleep Blush
But absolutely shattered too xx

firsttimemum090 · 18/11/2018 19:24

Yes now I'm far too excited! Will put the phone down for a bit and take a break from MN xx

firsttimemum090 · 19/11/2018 02:09

Thank you, able to sleep for a bit. Contractions all but stopped but felt so sick it woke me, been to the loo and was sick, everything came out of my tummy Envy

Tadda · 19/11/2018 02:18

@firsttime try not to worry- been like that or totally constpated for last 10 weeks joys of late pregnancy! X
Still, little call to your midwife in the morning just to pop in and check your ok and no nasty tummy bug looking x
Hope your feeling better soon x

LondonLassInTheCountry · 19/11/2018 02:26

Just be very careful if you need a poo.

Dont sit on the loo and push

Sickness during labour is common

Birdie6 · 19/11/2018 02:35

Her head is right down , pushing into your bottom. Not long now !

Canders · 19/11/2018 03:21

Sounds promising to me...

When I was in labour my contractions kept stopping / slowing down so they kept making me get up and walking about to start them up again.

Good luck :)

firsttimemum090 · 19/11/2018 07:14

Thank you all xx Contractions seemed to have slowed again, more strong period cramps and back pain whilst sleeping. Maybe still a few days away? Up soon to clean the baseboards xx
