I shan't be stocking up as I'll like to try out and see which ones we get on with etc as we go along.

If you can join a Costco or similar store do so. You'll save a lot on all sorts of baby supplies, and I always found that the store brand of nappies was as good as the branded ones.

kmreeve · 22/10/2018 16:39

@MissConductUS no Costco in UK as far as I know, or certainly not near me.

There's loads of Costco's all over the UK, but not helpful if there's none near you.

Aldi nappies have very good reviews.

SPR1107 · 22/10/2018 16:42

We do have Costco in UK but not many, and I think you have be a member?

But we've always found Aldi the best, followed by Asda's Little Angels.

Always found pampers let off a horrible smell when wet, and my little boy used to leak all the time

OneBiscuitAtATime · 22/10/2018 16:42

I second Aldi. We used a mixture of those and Pampers for my son and there really was no difference, except in price. The right fit is important though so you may need to try a few.

wimbler · 22/10/2018 16:45

I plan on trying the new Pampers Pure ones. I like that they're a bit more 'natural' than some but don't seem to be as expensive as some. I would try aldi ones too but we don't have one near enough that making the journey would be worth it.

SPR1107 · 22/10/2018 16:48

You can order some sizes on Aldi online too. I find Asda's and Aldi's very similar

Autumnfairy82 · 22/10/2018 16:48

DD is now almost 18 months. We’ve always used Pampers Premium Protection - never had any issues. One of the supermarkets always has them on offer.

kmreeve · 22/10/2018 16:48

What about Lidl? I have one of those not too far, Aldi is the next town over. We've got a small boots, a small Sainsbury's and a largish Tesco a little drive away...

We use Lidl nappies and they are great x

MiriAmmerman · 22/10/2018 16:53

Depends on the baby I think. I would say don't stock up before birth really, because you can't predict how big or small your baby will be. Our DS is pretty chunky, so he moved on to size 2 very quickly. Only used about 2 packs of size 1 I think.

We use Aldi for DS and find them excellent (especially overnight - he's a good sleeper and a heavy wetter so they've got work to do). We also like Boots own and Sainsbury's own. Friends of ours swear by Lidl, but they don't seem to fit DS as snugly as Aldi - I think his bum is the wrong shape.

Nappies are definitely a trial and error item.

Happycow · 22/10/2018 17:01

Definitely a trial and error thing - every brand fits every every child differently.

My go-to ones are Aldi (but not one near me so a rare treat!) Or Pampers Premium Protection (the baby dry / active fit seem to smell like wee all the time...)

anniehm · 22/10/2018 17:08

I used whatever was reduced in price - different each time! I highly recommend cloth though, I switched when dd was 6 months and they lasted for her and her sister (used from about 6 weeks as I didn't want to bother buying the newborn size).

  • I then sold for about 80% of my original outlay. I did use fully flushable liners but otherwise they got chucked into the washer 3 times a week and I either dried in the dryer or line dried depending on weather
Worieddd · 22/10/2018 17:19

Pampers and Mamia from Aldi

Battenburg1978 · 22/10/2018 17:23

I highly rate Lidl nappies- we've used them since size 3 and I've found them as good as pampers for my DD. I have to say I'm not quite as keen on their wipes and much prefer Aldi's Mamia wipes. It's been a while since I compared prices but they're certainly competitive with the supermarkets own brands. I've also used Tesco/Sainsbos and Asda and they've all done the job just fine. For a new born I really liked having the wetness indicator on the front - worth checking any nappies you but have this if you'd find it useful. Up to 6 months I only used Waterwipes and would stick up when on a good offer somewhere - Ocado used to do a regular offer

whyispeppainthenightgarden · 22/10/2018 17:25

We used pampers micro baby for dd and ds and then just bought whatever really. I like co-op bit there not the cheapest own brand. The stick on Wilki ones are rubbish

ShaquilleOatmeal · 22/10/2018 17:27

I was using Pampers then changed to Lidl and Asda brand.I actually prefer the cheaper ones.Smile I was using the Johnson's wipes changed to the Asda little angels sensitive 12packs for £5 or £6

dozent · 22/10/2018 17:31

Pampers are the best in my opinion. My son is 8 months and we've been using them since birth with no rashes and he's got eczema and sensitive skin

overandunder9 · 22/10/2018 17:58

We love Aldi and Lidl. Pampers are more expensive even when they’re on offer and we found that they’re not worth the extra cost.

GlamourBear · 22/10/2018 18:08

We use cloth/reusable nappies but will use Kit & Kin or Naty when we need to use disposables.

I've actually found the Morrison's savers ones to be really good, they are about £1.50 a pack.

Seniorschoolmum · 22/10/2018 18:14

When ds stopped needing nappies, I worked out that if I’d used big brand rather than supermarket own, I would have spent an extra £740 on nappies.

That’s half a skiing holiday ! Smile

DrWhy · 22/10/2018 18:22

We have used Pampers all the way through so nothing to compare too. Never pay full price though, they are always on offer somewhere, all the big supermarkets, boots, even Amazon - you can order online from most of them.

Holymosquito · 22/10/2018 18:25

Lidl nappies are our favourite!

MissConductUS · 22/10/2018 18:25

In the US Amazon has started selling nappies under their own brand, "Mama Bear" that get great reviews. I don't see them on the UK site now but I'm sure they're coming.

Changenameday · 22/10/2018 18:28

My little boy is 4 weeks old and we tried pretty much everything and we’ve found tesco to be the best, get the bounty packs/ Emma’s diary freebies as it’s a good way to get a couple from different brands.

Found asda and Sainsbury’s difficult for night changes as the sticky tabs are white so need decent light to see them
