Baby things you couldn't live without

So I am going through my list and buying bits but there is SO much stuff out there I keep getting side tracked! I know in reality baby needs very little e.g clothes and somewhere safe to sleep etc but I know there are actually lots of good products out there that do make a difference and juts make life that little bit easier. So, what are the products you would recommend that you now couldn't live without?!

Sleepy Head
Ewan the dream sheep
Nibbling dummy clips (if you are going to use a dummy)

StacksOfBoxes · 24/09/2018 12:00

A ring sling. I don't know how I could possibly have coped without it. I didn't even bother buying a buggy for my second, he was in the sling from birth until he could walk independently. I could carry the baby hands free and very comfortably while doing everything I needed to do. It was even possible to breastfeed while doing a supermarket shop. When they did start to walk a bit, it was easy to just shove it in my bag, and I didn't have to push an empty buggy around so could hold hands more easily.

Oh and dentinox colic drops. I only used then once but on a night that she wouldn't stop crying. So much trapped wind came up! I'm so glad I had them in the house already as I couldn't get the wind up

FairfaxAikman · 24/09/2018 12:07

MyHummy
Star Wraps for warmth in the car seat.
Nipple shields were a lifesaver when I initially struggled to breastfeed.
I know a lot of people hate them but I love my nappy bin as I don't have to go outside in the wet Scottish nights during night changes.
Jumparoo - DS is very clingy and it's one of the few places he's happy being put down so I can have a quick bite to eat.

Also a mirror for the car as I do a lot of solo driving

TheGhostOfYou · 24/09/2018 12:08

Baby rocking/bouncy chair
Muslins (DD2 has reflux, we've got thousands)
And definitely would suggest get something like dentinox or infacol in ready, just in case.

Patienceofatoddler · 24/09/2018 12:09

Baby sling (Close Caboo initially)

Baby Bjorn Balance Bouncer (Simple and long lasting)

usernotfound0000 · 24/09/2018 12:38

Perfect Prep. Morrck hoody for the car seat. More muslins than you think you'll need. Ewan the sheep.

SophieStripe · 24/09/2018 13:03

These are great! Defo going to get morrck blanket, baby bjorn balance and have been considering Sean the sheep vs myhummy. They are pricey, is it defo worth it? Should I wait and see what baby is like first?

Sling
Sleeping bag
Muslins
Dummies
Dummy clips
Sleepy head.
White noise app on an old phone!!

iklboo · 24/09/2018 13:20

Wind up baby swing. Literally a sanity saver.

chloechloe · 24/09/2018 13:28

It’s so hard to say as what one baby loves another one hates!

DD2 had all naps in the Manduca carrier whereas DD1 hated it. The Balance Soft bouncer was a lifesaver with DD1 but DD2 hated it.

Sean the Sheep got sent back to Amazon after 3mo DD1 kept trying to kick him in the head.

The list goes on! I’m not much help am I!?

Sleepyheads do seem to be universally lived by all babies though!

Onceicaughtafish · 24/09/2018 13:33

A sling (a ring sling and a stretchy wrap for us, but any that is safe and comfortable and easy to use)

A coat big enough to go round both of you when using the sling. No trying to get a sleeping baby out of a snowsuit without waking them when you come indoors 🙂

SleepFreeZone · 24/09/2018 13:40

The baby grows with built in scratch mitts.

olicat · 24/09/2018 15:12

Angelcare bath seat!

GMtoBe · 24/09/2018 15:20

A proper nasal aspirator, the ones that you suck. That and saline spray have been life savers when my dd has had colds and a blocked nose. Also the grosnugs by grobag. Had dd in one from when she was born until she grew out of it and into regular grobags.

butlerswharf · 24/09/2018 15:23

Sleepyhead
Grosnug/Grobags
Movement/breathing monitor
Groegg
Muslins

mrs2468 · 24/09/2018 15:25

Some days of these are life savers if you need them but can wait until baby is here to see what they are like before spending money. Ewan or my hummy for example. Your baby might not need white noise to go to sleep so use the app on your phone to see if they do then spend the money if required. Same with sleepyhead your baby might be a good sleeper or swaddling might work and then you don't need one.

Second or third what everyone says about Dummies though.

SilverbytheSea · 24/09/2018 15:25

Angel care bath seat, DS HATED being bathed until we tried it! Although I’d probably eat to see how your little one is in the bath before buying it as it does take up a bit of room if you have a small bathroom like us 😂

SilverbytheSea · 24/09/2018 15:26

*probably wait

firsttimebabybirther · 24/09/2018 15:32

Sleepyhead
Perfect prep when bottle feeding
Muslins , muslins and more muslins and then even more.
6 in 1 thermometer
And the joie motion rocker was a life saver

Smurfybubbles · 24/09/2018 15:36

Sleepyhead
Angelcare bath seat
Bath thermometer
My Hummy
Perfect Prep machine if formula feeding

Smurfybubbles · 24/09/2018 15:38

Oh and baby sleeping bags, as soon as DS outgrew his Sleepyhead we switched from blankets to sleeping bags, best invention ever!!! They're usually from a certain age/weight so not suitable for newborns!

SophieStripe · 24/09/2018 17:59

Thanks so much! Such a great list. I'm going to buy a few bits and others, wait to see what baby is like e.g white noise machine

What about things for me? Anything that totally saved you pre or post birth?

eggofmantumbi · 24/09/2018 18:09

Massive (for you) pants (I'm usually 12-14 and got 18-20 in case you had a section.

All the snacks.

Nipple shields, breast shells and lanolin if you're planning on breastfeeding.

Loads of warm comfy clothes.
