Should I just make myself throw up??

If anyone reading this has an eating disorder and might consider this a trigger, please leave and I'm sorry, it's never my intention to upset anybody..

I'm 9 weeks pregnant, and my nausea is insane!! 😢 (and has been since week 6)
I'm never actually sick, and that's the same outside of pregnancy. It doesn't matter how ill I feel, I raaaarely throw up.

I can't eat anything, which in turn makes me feel worse and its a vicious cycle.

I constantly feel my mouth watering, as if I'm going to throw up and I keep gagging but nothing happens!!

Its driving me crazy.
If I just ram my fingers down my throat and force myself to throw up, do you think I'll feel better or will it just not effect my nausea at all?
I feel like I'm going crazy, and I just want to feel better.
Not even better, just... less bloody nauseated 😂
And atm I have a horrible cold, which isn't what I needed right now and it's making me feel even more sick.
I have a 5 year old to look after as well, so I'd like to feel better for him.

I’m the same in terms of rarely being sick. If I feel truly horrific I do make myself sick. I think I only did it one t8me with morning sickness though...
I’d say no harm in trying once but it might not help.

thismeansnothing · 19/09/2018 17:51

I've been suffering badly with nausea from 5 weeks and 17+1 now and little let up. At my whitts end one day I thought sod it I'll just be sick. But. Didn't get any relief so totally not worth it

Babbaganoush · 19/09/2018 17:55

I felt exactly the same way as you during the first trimester. I was constantly nauseous but very rarely sick. I hate to say it but the few times I was sick it made no difference to the nausea. I really sympathise though as it is really debilitating. Hoping it passes soon for you.

trippingoverrainbows · 19/09/2018 17:55

@jadeywadeyyox I've had bad sickness throughout my pregnancy which is now getting better at just over 15 weeks. If I was feeling like you describe I would make myself sick and it would be like an instant relief. I'm sure someone will come along soon to say how bad it is to do this but feeling nauseous for prolonged periods is horrendous...you have my sympathies

Olivecake · 19/09/2018 17:57

I have HG so have had really bad nausea and sickness my whole pregnancy and when I do throw up, the nausea doesn’t go away, not even momentarily. It’s totally different to normal sickness in that way that there’s just no relief - at least that’s what I’ve found. Of course your experience could be different but just don’t want you to get your hopes up that forcing the vomit will be a quick fix.

As your nausea is so bad you’re not able to eat, you should tell your doctor as they should be able to prescribe you something to help with the nausea.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

twobambinos · 19/09/2018 18:02

Oh god op it's awful.
I had the nausea and the vomiting with all three of mine. Sometimes the vomiting did ease the nausea for a short length of time but ultimately it was back with a vengeance. Vomiting with nothing coming up but vile is absolutely horrible I wouldn't suggest trying it.
Maybe try and eat something or at least drink something I know its so much easier said than done. Hope it passes soon for you.

PlinkPlink · 19/09/2018 18:07

Fuck I remember this. Awful. 3 months of feeling permanently like I wanted to throw up. Only able to eat porridge, toast and cheese.

Ring your doctor and ask for some anti sickness meds. My doctor gave me some when I was pregnant. I wasn't aware they did that so I was pleasantly surprised. It helped alleviate it a bit... just gave me a bit of a break from the constant nausea.

MimsyBorogroves · 19/09/2018 18:14

I had nausea and vomiting. For me, making myself sick definitely worked - I wouldn't have been able to get to work in a morning unless I did.

That said, I also found a pack of digestives next to the bed, and eating one whenever I woke up in the night and first thing before getting out of bed worked too.

SpottingTheZebras · 19/09/2018 18:17

Your doctor can prescribe you something for the nausea.

colditz · 19/09/2018 18:21

No, you won't feel better

But try nibbling a dry cereal, like rice crispies. They are very tiny and bland and might control the nausea a little.

olderthanyouthink · 19/09/2018 18:34

Try eating something plain the second you wake up and have something sweet to suck on throughout the day (werthers helped me), one of the midwives said women often knick the sugar packets from cafes, she had a pocket full of them to hand out.

jadeywadeyyox · 19/09/2018 19:03

Thanks for all the advice guys.
I try keep it as plain as I can unless I actually crave something (which is rare), but all I can seem to taste in plain foods like crackers and toast ect is the salt, which just makes me gag.
The only thing that doesn't make me gag is yogurts and Bananas but only in small doses.
Does anyone else have an issue with texture as well? If I eat too much of the same texture, that makes me gag and want to throw up, no matter howuch I enjoy it or how hungry I am.
Its such a pain.
I didn't know you could get anything for sickness, I will definitely ring in the morning.
But I'm a high risk pregnancy, after 2 miscarriages (one very recent in April), so will that effect what I can take?

I was exactly the same during pregnancy. Nonstop nausea until 16 weeks. Constant mouth watering, gagging, but never actually being sick (not once). I think forcing yourself to throw up would make you feel worse because pregnancy nausea tends to be worse when the stomach is empty, so by emptying the stomach further you're likely to feel more nauseas.

The best way to curb the nausea is to eat - most women will tell you this, and it's true. I'd have to make sure I was constantly eating. In pregnancy, the moment you let yourself get even the slightest bit hungry, that's when you notice the nausea creeping in. It took me a while to make this connection. What makes it hard is the food aversions! Just find something that you can tolerate and eat that (that 'thing' might change from day to day).

I know how you feel. I know you feel like the nausea will never end but, honestly, it will.

Good luck with everything! Xxx

NewNameDueToMyIdiocy · 19/09/2018 19:33

I agree with the PP who said the pregnancy nausea isn't like regular nausea - and for me it doesn't go away when I'm sick either. That's one of the worst things about it, no bloody relief!

It could be different for you though, so no harm in trying it once to see if it helps. Although do drink something first so there is something in your tummy to easily come up. Apparently apple juice is one of the most pleasant things to vomit back up, kind of neutralises the vomity taste. I have never personally tried this though, so can't say if it's true.

CobaltRose · 19/09/2018 19:36

No, I did and it only gave me temporary respite before I felt awful again within a few minutes. It doesn't really make a difference because it's not the contents of your stomach that's making you feel ill, it's good old hormones! I actually found that eating little and often helped. It was much much worse if I hadn't eaten.

It does get better. I felt horrific 24/7 up until I was 12/13 weeks. I'm now almost 16 weeks and aside from the occasional mild wave of nausea if I haven't eaten, I feel fine!

Redken24 · 19/09/2018 19:46

Have u tried sipping gaviscon from the fridge? I was prescribed omeprazole before and a lower dose during pregnancy. Sometimes the gastric discomfort means lots of nausea which 's not helped by being sick

LittleDoveLove · 19/09/2018 22:45

I'm the same terrible nausea but rarely sick outside of pregnancy too. I've just reached 10+2 and it's suddenly become a lot less intense. I still get it it's just shifted to a bit later in the eve and not as strong but I still feel very groggy. I can't stomach tea, or gammon (random but I cooked it on an extreme nausea day and now I can't face the thought!). The lady who did my scan suggested digestive biscuits as was prob my sugar level low. They have helped but they are quite boring! I just eat what I fancy at the time.

Iwantaunicorn · 20/09/2018 00:06

I had exactly the same thing, I was desperate to just throw up! I didn’t try and make myself be sick, as I’ve never been able to manage it. It stopped at around 17 weeks for me.

I hope you feel better soon.

Monipop84 · 20/09/2018 06:58

Weeks 6-9 were the worst for me. I usually found that sticking my head in the toilet and relieving myself would help, albeit momentarily. I never "made" myself throw up (no sticking fingers down), it just came up as soon as I was in "throwing up position" (although the grossness of the situation probably did help).

The good news is: the nausea eventually subsided at week 10. Now I have dizzy spells instead Hmm Grin

shakeyourcaboose · 20/09/2018 07:02

If any of you haven't yet, look for the hyperemesis support group on here, l spent the majority of my Pg in hospital from it, the group was a godsend, and def get to docs re anti emetics.

BikeRunSki · 20/09/2018 07:03

Pregnancy Sickness Support

Throwing up never actually helped me, despite doing it a lot involuntarily, the nausea returned straight away.

BlueEyedPersephone · 20/09/2018 07:17

Hi, I found root ginger tea, ginger nut biscuits and sparkling water not still was the only way I could function at work through the first four months, if you can have ginger try it Thanks

cleopatracomingatya · 20/09/2018 08:08

Making myself sick definitely helped, sometimes I found my body needed the motion of fully gagging and expelling something (even just spit) from my tummy, this made me feel better

BarryTheKestrel · 20/09/2018 08:15

If you can stomach yogurt, try making a milkshake or smoothie blended with oats to give you some more bulk to it. Having something in your stomach will ease the nausea a little.

I too suffered awful nausea but hardly ever sick in both pregnancies. I couldn't eat, chewing made me gag, but a smoothie yoghurt, fruit, oats, gave me something to line my stomach and eased it slightly.

When I did make myself sick it really didn't help at all. The empty stomach increases the nausea.
