Shaving?...

How many of you kept up your shaving as usual? To be honest, I can't see anything down there anymore so when I do shave I'm just blindly waving the razor around abit down there!

Was wondering whether it needs to be gone before you go into labour or not. Just don't feel like I have the care anymore 😂

I think this is something we all worry about!! It really won't matter when you're in labour! Not all women are hairless at all down there!! But if it's something that bothers you I found a hair removal cream slightly easier to manage!!

user1906 · 10/09/2018 17:51

Its better to have hair down there in labour, it can help protect your bits against infection. I have been shaving on and off but will probably stop around 38 weeks for a grow!! Grin

inmyshoos · 10/09/2018 17:53

As a midwife can I just say it makes no difference from our perspective.

happymummy12345 · 10/09/2018 17:54

I shaved myself up until 38 weeks, then my husband did it for me.
One because I can not stand any hair down there at all, it irritates the hell out of me. And two no way would I not want to be fully shaved before giving birth. Wouldn't feel comfortable not to be.

LucyLou19 · 10/09/2018 17:55

I just keep on top of mine, husband helps me too. I’m 38+3 xx

dementedpixie · 10/09/2018 17:56

I've never removed all of mine anyway so mine was just trimmed occasionally

Sarahandduck18 · 10/09/2018 17:57

Yes risk infection for perceived aesthetics.

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 18:00

I've shaved/waxed for years and never had an infection 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm 32 weeks and have gone back to waxing as I can't see my bits anymore.

Dobbythesockelf · 10/09/2018 18:03

I think they mean infection after birth. Because pubic hair has a purpose.
But seriously nobody will care and in my experience I didn't give a crap about much once I was in labour.

LashesZ · 10/09/2018 18:05

I honestly gave up once I hit 30 weeks, even standing was an effort with my huge swollen feet let alone twisting in all positions. Typically had an episiotomy so had midwives checking my stitches every day but by that point did not give a toss Grin

Nothisispatrick · 10/09/2018 18:07

I’ve been having waxes as I never shave down there anyway, I haven’t been able to see down there for months now.

All the additional discharge and sweat down there have made me want to wax even more than I did before. Makes it a million times more comfortable.

CherryAide · 10/09/2018 18:14

Never knew shaving could cause infection after birth! I heard the opposite! So hard to keep up these days...

WhirlingTurkey · 10/09/2018 18:19

Well, after I cut a bit of my labia off, (because I couldn't see properly)... I'm leaving mine well alone. Will ask DH nicely to help me tidy up a bit around my due date. I didn't bother with my first birth as I went into labour early and didn't have time - I didn't have time to feel self conscious in the slightest!

user1906 · 10/09/2018 18:55

Pubic hair has a purpose 🙄 look it up!!!

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2018 18:59

I don't shave. When I had to be shaved a bit for my Csection the Midwife did it for me.

cakesandphotos · 10/09/2018 19:18

Haha no! I had an emergency c section and I don’t think anyone shaved anything. I only shaved my legs once my entire pregnancy too Blush

captainshortie · 10/09/2018 20:33

Im with above poster, I can barely be bothered to shave my legs let alone anything else.
It hurts too much when it starts growing back inBlush

oreolovegood · 10/09/2018 20:58

Haha so glad I'm not the only one. I literally can't be bothered to shave my legs either Blush I know they've seen everything and you don't care when you're there, it was more for whether it gets in the way or not but I guess not! Smile

I haven't been able to shave often in pregnancy am huge this time so cannot see but my hair is sooo sensitive at the moment that the last time i did , it was horrible growing back itchy and left me with a rash! I would try waxing but I've been keeping up with my eyebrow wax and i looked swollen & burnt after my last appt!! So would rather not have that down below! I have just ordered a bikini trimmer and (i or my hubby) will do that until birth now short & tidy but not bare as its not nice the regrowth! My skin has never been this sensitive and im 35 weeks (tomorrow) with baby #4!

snowy1982 · 11/09/2018 08:10

There is actually a big sticker on the front of my maternity notes saying not to shave or wax etc for 6 weeks prior to giving birth due to infection risk. I have just been trying to keep things ‘trim’ although am sure it actually looks a right state Grin

Italianshark · 11/09/2018 09:08

You ladies are all so brave. My OH offered to shave mine and I haven't had the balls to let him yet! I would be panicking id lose a lip!

SecondTimeCharm · 11/09/2018 09:12

I’m always au naturale as is so I continue to not bother. When I had to have an episiotomy I’m fairly sure the midwife/nurse/consultant shaved me but I was completely out of it at the time! Will be the same this time I imagine

MonkeysMummy17 · 11/09/2018 09:15

Just to say, don't attempt hair removal cream if you haven't used it before. Turns out that if you get that in the wrong place then, well, let's just say its not pleasant and if you can't see what you're doing all the more risk for getting into sensitive parts and spending all night flushing them out with water and praying for the torture to end
No one will care how it looks, they see all sorts 😊

TheDowagerCuntess · 11/09/2018 09:15

it was more for whether it gets in the way or not but I guess not!

Sorry OP, but 😂

Foggymist · 11/09/2018 09:50

How could it get in the way?? Women have given birth with pubic hair since the dawn of time. If it is matted shut to such an extent that it could get in the way of childbirth then you've bigger problems than a quick shave would deal with!
