What to eat when you feel to sick to eat?

I feel horribly nauseous 🤢 luckily I haven't actually vomited (so far, at least), but I can't bring myself to eat. Everything makes me feel yuck.

And the smell! Of absolutely everything. 🤢

In my first pregnancy I had similar nausea but could always manage a handful of fruit and nuts, or a cereal bar. But not this time.

Any suggestions?

Mashed or jacket potato and butter
Toast
Cereals

Camsie30 · 04/09/2018 08:45

Rice cakes or ginger biscuits. Hope it passes soon

Weird, but frozen watermelon works for me! And normal watermelon, but there’s something about it being frozen that really helps.

Obviously not going to work if you don’t like watermelon though...

BellaVida · 04/09/2018 08:53

Ginger biscuits were good for me, or any other plain biscuits like Rich Tea. Also, fresh lemon. Chill one in the fridge, slice and smell, lick, put in water- was actually my Dr who shared that with me and it really worked.

A Mr Kipling lemon slice has gone down OK Grin definitely need to get to the shop to buy ginger biscuits and watermelon... When I feel less exhausted and dizzy, so in a few months?!

I used to keep ginger biscuits on the bedside table and nibbled one in a half raised position before I even thought about getting up. 😉

Thebasicweegie · 04/09/2018 08:58

Fruit always helped me! Cut up pineapple and strawberries in the fridge to pick at when I felt like it. And peppermint tea helped settle my stomach too. Hope you start feeling better soon!

JLG19 · 04/09/2018 09:00

Great tip about the lemon, BellaVida, will try that.

Jamaica ginger cake. Ginger helps with sickness and cake helps with life.

Italianshark · 04/09/2018 09:08

Malted Milks

mrsnec · 04/09/2018 09:09

Ginger made me worse annd I have not been able to touch it since.

I lived off sandwiches straight from the fridge, fruit and fibre cereal, super noodles and lots of fruit. Pears in particular. That was pretty much all I could stomach!

StorminaBcup · 04/09/2018 09:11

Lemonade ice lollies and ritz crackers worked with both of mine. Also oranges although both ds refuse to eat them so I must've overdone it! Hope the sickness eases soon!

HappydaysArehere · 04/09/2018 09:12

I had vomiting and severe sickness 24/7 when I was pregnant years ago. In and out of hospital and I fainted all over the place until one morning when I was six months pregnant I woke and actually felt that I could manage a high baked cracker with marmite on top and a tiny piece of cheese. I ate it very slowly and then nibbled more later. By mid day I was feeling as if I could walk around. That is how I continued my pregnancy just eating tiny snacks. The upside was that my baby was 7pounds 10 ounces and I was as slim as I ever was. This was fifty odd years ago thank goodness medical know how has progressed.

Ginger does work for a lot of people who are feeling nauseous and unable to eat. Ginger biscuits in particular. I used to have a hot ginger cordial. It would help the nausea to pass and then I could face something else, like plain crackers....

ragged · 04/09/2018 09:29

chocolate & lemonade & crisps. Or just gave up & barely ate at all. I got thru, anyway.

I went lactose intolerant so had to avoid that; sure fire puke fest. Ever pregnancy was different wrt what I could keep down. Trial & error.

BlueUggs · 04/09/2018 09:30

Nairn's ginger oatcakes

Emma765 · 04/09/2018 09:33

Orange anything for me. Oranges, juice, fanta, ice lollies, and most importantly orange Rennies helped me not feel sick so I could eat. All I ever wanted to eat was sandwiches.

TheMagicTorch · 04/09/2018 09:34

NotUmbongoUnchained brilliant tip - cake most certainly helps with anything!

JLG19 · 04/09/2018 09:38

NotUmbongoUnchained Grin love it!

Oranges seem popular, will try that. Couldn't eat fruit and fibre yesterday and am just throwing my toast in the bin Envy

Salt & vinegar crisps. I pretty much lived on them until 16 weeks. Something about the saltiness of them seemed to help them stay down

Also, mashed potato, plain pasta, digestive biscuits and toast

problembottom · 04/09/2018 10:13

Salt and vinegar crisps were among the only thing I could tolerate for the first sixteen weeks too. I also craved sugary drinks whereas normally I only drink water.

Most fruit and veg - anything with a flavour basically - made me want to hurl and those ginger biscuits that everyone advises turned my stomach. DP enjoyed them tho!

I'm back to normal at 24 weeks and eating healthily again.

Rosley · 04/09/2018 10:23

I ate plain biscuits (malted milk, digestives ect) and ready salted crisps (baked varieties) for most of the first and second trimester.

Ice pops and jelly are also good for getting fluid levels up as they released it slower than water.

Feel better soon!

1Wanda1 · 04/09/2018 10:24

Water biscuits are good. I used to nibble at them plain. Also, oddly, I could handle crunchy apples, but only cut up. Biting into a whole one made me gag.

It passes (for most people).

Notquiteagandt · 04/09/2018 10:30

Apples, grapefruit, ice cream, anything sour and mash have been my HG safe foods.

Ginger is known to make you feel sicker so id avoid that.
