What to eat when you feel to sick to eat?

I feel horribly nauseous 🤢 luckily I haven't actually vomited (so far, at least), but I can't bring myself to eat. Everything makes me feel yuck.

And the smell! Of absolutely everything. 🤢

In my first pregnancy I had similar nausea but could always manage a handful of fruit and nuts, or a cereal bar. But not this time.

Any suggestions?

I used to eat those Naked bar things or mini cheddars. I was constantly hungry but eating made me nauseous- they were the only things I could (just barely) tolerate

PyjamasBetterThanJeans · 04/09/2018 10:35

... and ice cold sparkling water

calamariqueen · 04/09/2018 10:36

Peanut butter by the spoonful Grin miss the excuse of being pregnant tbh...

ProseccoPoppy · 04/09/2018 10:38

Ice cold fizzy water was about the only drink I could stomach. If I had a few sips of that I could then manage either ginger biscuits (DC1) or ready salted crisps (DC2). Good luck. It’s horrible but obviously worth it in the end!

Gobletoffire · 04/09/2018 10:40

For me, foods that helped were cereal bars, strawberries, salty crisps, ginger biscuits, any type of sweets! I felt nauseous but wasn’t sick, I’m nearly 12 weeks now and it’s starting to pass thank goodness.

I know it’s hard to eat when you feel so sick but I felt that once I’ve got a little food inside me the nausea started to pass. At times I would just feel sick unless I was eating! I needed a permanent snack Grin

Notquiteagandt · 04/09/2018 10:40

Oh and jelly for getting fluids in.

Ditto sparkling water.

JLG19 · 04/09/2018 10:42

Ooh yes, jelly! I ate loads of jelly when pregnant with DS. I'll also try some S&V crisps Smile

Ready salted hula hoops. My life saver. That and Fanta.

brodiee · 04/09/2018 10:58

I've been feeling this way recently - I sympathise. A rich tea biscuit usually kerbed the worst of my nausea. I found not eating at all made it worst even though eating is the last thing I wanted to do.

Ginger just made me feel worse. Croissants have been good. As has toast. And sometimes cereal with cold milk.

Watermelon slices helped at the beginning and cucumber but then I could only stomach carby things!

sleepless19 · 04/09/2018 10:58

I found drinking water with slices of lemon and lime in helped eased the nausea allowing me to eat small amounts

CobaltRose · 04/09/2018 10:59

Lots of fruit, cereal, super noodles, and milk. That was pretty much all I could stomach in the first 12 weeks.

nuttyknitter · 04/09/2018 11:01

Ready salted crisps.

Tetri · 04/09/2018 11:03

Crackers, popcorn, rice cakes

thismeansnothing · 04/09/2018 11:04

Nothing
Toast and butter
Pringles
Hoola hoops
Chicken nuggets (literally 2 max is all I could cope with)
Mugs of hot ribena
Nothing
I've pretty much not eaten for 8 weeks

kettleonplease · 04/09/2018 11:07

I'm in the same boat as you OP :(. Yesterday I felt so weak and dizzy I thought I was going to pass out.

I started on ready salted crisps last week but now I've gone off them too. The thought of food makes me feel so sick. I did however force down some very stogy hot quiche at lunch, and that made me feel much better this afternoon! I think it's a day by day thing but one thing I can always handle are ice lollies! I should also get onto the jelly thing 🤔

LadyFromLondon · 04/09/2018 12:25

Sugary food made me feel worse..mini chedders and crisp kept me going!

sexnotgender · 04/09/2018 12:31

Beige foodSad

Digestives, Rich tea, cereal. Cold slices of pink lady apples are about the only healthy food I managed until about 15 weeks.

Meat gave me the boak. Anything greasy too, vom vom vom.

Pasta with a little cheese is good.

Basically plain carbs!

OutPinked · 04/09/2018 13:08

I could only stomach stodgy beige foods for the first 18 weeks. I lived off mints for starters, they were the only thing that seemed to slightly stave off the nausea while at work or otherwise out in public. Food wise I ate a lot of potatoes and bread Blush.

aetw · 04/09/2018 13:11

Lemon ice lollies and popcorn

Foodylicious · 04/09/2018 13:11

Some excellent advice and suggestions over here

I used to eat liquorice to take away the horrible taste in my mouth.

Be warned though, sometimes I would find something I could eat for a couple of days and then couldn't eat it again for the rest of the pregnancy!

Things I went through - ice lollies, ice cubes, crisps, crackers, ginger biscuits, spicy chicken from Tesco deli (oddly!)

Want2bSupermum · 04/09/2018 14:50

Ice lollies. The cheaper the better. Made throwing up less painful.

fieryginger · 04/09/2018 14:59

Been many years but tea and plain toast with a small amount of butter, were my morning sickness go to - and still are if I've been unwell.

JLG19 · 04/09/2018 16:10

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've sent DP to the shop with a rather unhealthy list.
