Aldi Nappies?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I've seen Aldi are doing a mother and baby sale and are selling packs of 24 newborn nappies for 85p! Question is, is it worth stocking up? How do they compare to pampers and the other brands? That price seems almost too good to be true

When I used Aldi's nappies size 4+, my baby got his FIRST ever nappy rash, and it was REALLY BAD. It scarred up his beautiful bottom. I was perplexed as to why. Then I smelled the new nappies and gagged at the strong chemical smell. I contacted Aldis, informed them what happened, and that, contrary to their packaging label- the nappies are NOT hypoallergenic. They asked me to drop the nappies back to store and fill in a form. I did so, even thought I had a baby in tow, and it took me half a day. The store manager agreed the nappies smelled very bad and filled in the form with me.

I never heard back from Aldis HQ, when I followed up, they told me the nappies had not been sent in and the store could not find them, and that they needed the batch number which was ON THE NAPPIES not the package.
The manager who filled in the form did not even know about batch numbers.
I told the "customer service " rep that no one told me about batch numbers but in any event, all the 4+ and up nappies reek of chemicals. The rep told me there were no chemicals used.

I do not believe there are no chemicals used, there was no real apology or attempt to resolve this matter - they were not interested in looking into the matter- the rep was just really defensive. They call you right away when you lodge a complaint, but the rest of the follow up is insincere.

I have gone back to the more expensive Pampers but they do not cause nappy rash, do not smell of chemicals, and they are thinner but hold more liquid.

Poor little baby's bum - still marked up.

@Maizy2017 must of had a bad pack! My DD had eczema and any other brand give her horrendous burns on her nappy area! Even her nursery told me to stick with aldi x

Maizy2017 · 07/07/2019 14:05

I thought it could be a bad pack tooand so I tried another - same thing.

this did not happen on the small sizes.

just the larger ones with the blue streaks in them.

HJWT · 07/07/2019 14:16

@Maizy2017 very strange! Iv had every size up to 6+ now x

I've not read all of the post on here in response to your question because there are so many but a quick answer from me would be to go for Tesco Fred and Flo nappies. I've found them to be the best for my 2 little ones.

joancassied · 07/07/2019 14:42

They are also around the same price as Aldi nappies but with the absorbance and fit as pampers which I always found to be good

HJWT · 07/07/2019 14:46

@joancassied I used the pull ups and they burnt my DD's bum 😔 so annoying as you get more in a pack at tesco x

It depends on the shape of your baby, ime. Aldi nappies leak on DD, but Sainsbury's ones don't. I think they might be a slightly different cut.

I’d be reluctant to stock up if I were you. I’d started with Pampers baby dry but they were sooo expensive. I’d heard loads of fab things about the Aldi nappies so I was desperate to give them a try but they gave my son a rash. I don’t think there is anything wrong with them because DS just has really sensitive skin so I think they just didn’t fit him properly so his skin couldn’t breathe.
I absolutely swear by their wipes...huggies gave DS a rash around his bottom and face when I wiped food off but the Mamia ones are great.
I’m pregnant with DC2 and I hoping to try the Aldi ones again but I guess you just never know.

I started with aldi foll9wing their great reputation but DD always had awful nappy rash desire all appropriate precautions and treatment. Dr suggested I changed nappies, lo and behold the nappy rash went immediately and gas never returned. It might be coincidence, but hers was so awful with raw skin and bleeding blisters I don't want to take the chance in trying to find out. I've been on pampers premium ever since.

FairfaxAikman · 07/07/2019 15:01

Another vote for trying different brands. Aldi didn't fit DS when he was tiny, but once we got to about size three the pampers we were using weren't the best, so we got a pack from all the supermarkets, including Aldi, and lo and behold they turned out to be the best fit

Wormentrude · 07/07/2019 17:30

My order of preference goes:

Pampers
Tesco
Aldi
Sainsbury's

I just find that Pampers are the best of the bunch that I can get easily. Tesco are pretty good, but not as soft as Pampers. Aldi are okay, but we've had a batch whose colour strips don't work, which can be a bit confusing. Sainsbury's infuriate me because the sticky tabs flop inwards as you change them, so that they get all pissy or pooey and you can't use them to wrap up the nappy anymore.

For wipes, we always get Water Wipes. They are expensive, but they're so gentle on DD's skin. I've also used them to clean mud off my light blue jeans - they're so watery that they don't leave a greasy mark like most wipes do. I love them!

CalamityJune · 07/07/2019 17:33

Aldi and Asda are by far my favourites. I wouldn't advise stocking up to much though as you might not need many in that size. They're still really cheap even when they're not on offer too.

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 08/07/2019 10:00

Don't massively stock up on anything as different things suit different babies. I was happy to use aldi, Waitrose own etc but we tried and they all leaked, so we've ended up with Pampers which work for us. DS is long, lean and wriggly, DN does well in Aldi nappies and SIL found the legs on Pampers a bit snug for him. Until your baby is here you just don't know. Also we were on size one for months but DN only for a couple of weeks.
