How many scans did you have?

Just wondering what the average number of scans normally is, and how this varies between high and low risk pregnancies.

Thanks for all the responses, quite a variety there! I'm high risk and at 24 weeks have just had my 5th scan.

Agree with others about regularly being told I'm lucky to get so many peeks, but not always seeing it that way myself! While I do love seeing the progression more than I expected, it would also be nice to stay away from the hospital and avoid the prescan anxiety on such a regular basis. This is something that still lingers after a mmc being detected at a reassurance scan last year.

The scans aren’t compulsory. Not everyone has them, they aren’t really needed if you know when you conceived/no plan to abort for abnormality. In some hospitals they don’t like to scan for sex of baby.

I've had 5 (I'm low risk)

7 weeks - Private scan as didn't believe I was finally pregnant after TTC for so long

12 weeks - Normal dating scan

14 weeks - Private extra scan as part of Harmony blood test

20 weeks - Normal anomaly scan

33 weeks - Growth scan as fundal height was measuring 2 weeks behind

I don't have any more scheduled so that should be it barring any complications

I had them 2 weekly with my 3rd as they'd found a cyst they wanted to keep an eye on.

He was born by cs and the cyst was wrapped around an ovary. I remember holding him and being in that little love bubble, with the surgeon popping up, asking me to make decisions there and then. She asked if I minded losing the ovary, I was like "yeah, do whatever you want", wanting to just savour the moment.

I had standard nhs ones at 12/20 and then a 30 week growth scan as he was big, I had one in EPAU due to bleeding at 8 weeks and I had 8 private scans too at 5/6/7/9/10/15/22/26 (ivf pregnancy and history of MMC)

I'm 19 weeks now and have had 4 so far. Paid for a private early one. 12 week as standard. I'm on semi private care in Ireland and when I met my consultant at 16 weeks had another scan there. Then went in this week with some worries and pains and had another scan. (All well thank god)

Next one is the big one - end of August. 1st time mum so not sure how often I'll be scanned after that. Any other Irish mums know?

My mum had twins on her first and scans weren't a thing back then so she didn't know at all until they arrived! 🙈

Im high risk and have had 6 scans already at 16+4. Got them every 4 weeks going forward. Maybe more towards the end.

2 is standard

With dc1 i had 5, dc2 I had 4, dc3 I had 6, dc4 and dc5 I lost count but it was double figures. Dc4 because he had a cleft lip and I had loads of fluid. Dc5 I had loads at the end to check his position near the end because the midwife kept thinking he was breech (he wasn't)
