Bedside cribs...

I've been looking at lots of different options for a sleeping arrangement for our baby for the first 6 months. Originally was going to buy a chicco next to me, but when seeing it in the flesh didn't think it actually felt that sturdy?! Have also looked at tutti bambini cozee and snuzpod (but not seen those in real life yet). However am now thinking of getting something a little more like a moses basket but not wicker - the moba or shnuggle. More because they can be lifted and moved around the house for day time naps. What are all your experiences with these kind of things? Any recommendations, things to look for, avoid etc? Thanks!

I’ve bought a snuzpod 3. Not used it yet as baby is due in 5 weeks but I’m really pleased with. It’s been made wider than the other models and now has a tilt function which were the only concerns I had about the earlier models. I’m planning on using my pram carrycot for downstairs sleeping.

Look out for Expectant Parent events at Mothercare, I think you get 20% off anything so we bought a lot of big bits this way.

GreyCloudsToday · 08/08/2018 22:23

We have a next2me on the bed and a Moses for moving around the house. Both work really well. The next2me tilts for reflux and we haven't had issues with flimsiness, it's sturdy when you set it up right. We got is on sale from Very with the new sign up credit discount, but paid in full with the debit card straight after so as not to incur charges. HTH

We brought a refurbished Bednest which is on offer for 99 at the moment. This one you can keep but they also offer rental which is good as they are only in it for six ish months. Not yet used but it's very sturdy and attaches to our divan with straps. Bednest was our only option due to the height of the divan as it goes up to 66cm which is more than the next2me and snuzpod (think the latest snuzpod does go higher tho!) you can also tilt it if needed and it does detatch if you wanted to move downstairs but we have a sleepyhead for that!

Smurfybubbles · 08/08/2018 22:29

I have the next to me and absolutely love it! DS is now 3 months and we are using it stand alone as he thrashes around like a lunatic in his sleep and was constantly waking me up! It has quite a bit of movement in it standalone but it's been fine, it has a slight rock to it to which is handy if he grumbles during the night, I just give it a little push for a while and he nods off again!
We had the sleepy head in it until about 10 weeks but have since removed that and he just sleeps in the next to me!

TruffleShuffles · 08/08/2018 22:30

I’ve bought the snuzpod 3 but haven’t used it yet as I’m not due for another couple of months. The latest version is a lot wider than the snuzpod 2 as the width was what was putting me off the older version. It was between the snuzpod 3 and tutti bambini cozee but we decided against the tutti as for something that’s also advertised as a travel cot it was really heavy. I do like the fact that the you can lift the top off the snuzpod although others have said they never bothered.

The main reason we went for a bedside crib instead of a Moses basket was that friends and family found their babies had outgrown them by around 3/4 months. This meant that some ended up moving their cotbeds into their bedroom as they weren’t ready to move the baby into their own room yet or had to purchase something in between.

I've got the tutti bambini and I absolutely adore it - being able to see and touch DD right next to me all night is wonderful. So easy to settle her if she's struggling (which in 3 weeks, hasn't been often). She's a good sleeper so far and I think it's partly due to the co-sleeper.

I do also have a Moses basket at our caravan and she is lovely and snuggly in there but she definitely will be grown out of it soon.

Would have loved a Moba for being able to move around the house though.

meow1989 · 08/08/2018 22:37

DS is 7 weeks and has settled in the tutti bambini cover since day 1. We actually use it as a stand alone. I love that it folds up for travel and have used it several times for overnight stays at parents house, so easy to put up and down and means he's in a sleeping space he's used to rather than a trace cot. I also like the look of it t better than others, it seems slightly bigger than the next to me too.

We have a Moses basket but to be honest we have the pram downstairs (cosatto giggle 2) which he settles well in.

lifechangesforever · 08/08/2018 22:39

P.S I also have a divan type bed with drawers underneath and the tutti is great next to it. I don't have it strapped to the bed, as I move it away during the day and put the side back up for naps.

haribosmarties · 08/08/2018 22:41

Ive got the chicco next to me and an ordinary moses basket with a rocking stand. So far its been going very well. The Chicco has made my life loads easier than it was when I had my son and didnt have one.
My son always used to end up in bed with us and I could never sleep because I was so worried about him. We just had a moses basket then and he hated it.
My daughter likes the moses basket with the rocking stand so I can put her in there in the living room while im doing other things. But she doesnt settle in it well enough to sleep at night in it.
She does settle in the next to me because she can see me through the mesh and I sleep right next to her. Cant rate it highly enough. You get the ease of cosleeping but with much less danger.

laurs2309 · 08/08/2018 23:36

Glad this was posted as we've been having the same dilemma! For those with the next 2 me crib, can I ask a possibly daft question... doesn't your duvet stray across into it in the night? I'm a bit worried about that and it covering the baby, but I may just be over thinking it!

SnuggyBuggy · 09/08/2018 05:46

I'm not using a duvet at the moment but I don't find my bedcovering doing this. You could always wedge the edge of the duvet under you or in the gap if you are worried.

butlerswharf · 09/08/2018 07:16

I bought the Moba for my daughter. I loved the safety aspect of it re breath ability etc. Unfortunately my little one would only sleep on me or her dad so it was never actually slept in. On the upside they have really good resale value so I sold it on eBay with the stand for £70.

splendidsqueak7 · 09/08/2018 07:26

I’ve got a snuzpod, haven’t used it yet as baby not due for another few weeks. It certainly seemed like the best option for us and can’t wait to put baby in it!

Iggi999 · 09/08/2018 07:57

laurs I was doing this as my baby ended up in bed more than the bednest, but I slept in a sleeping bag which I kept at waist height (wore more on top than normal if it was winter) to avoid the duvet covering him.

TinaMumsnet · 09/08/2018 11:13

Hello, just wanted to pop on this thread to say that we tested the Snuzpod along side 10 other cribs last year, and we were really impressed with it. If you're interested can read our full review here. Hope you manage to find something that works for you Flowers

Louba4 · 09/08/2018 11:38

We have the Tutti Bambini, I thought it seemed sturdier than the Chicco one and looks nicer too! I will say though, we had it connected to our bed for the first couple of nights no problem, apart from me obsessively worrying our duvet would somehow end up covering DS. Does anyone else have this worry?! So now we have the side up 🙂 it is a little heavy though so you couldn’t move it around the house, downstairs we have the carrycot from our pram on a Moses basket stand (can get from Mothercare for about £30) which works great!

Sushirolls · 09/08/2018 21:28

My DD has the Chicco next to me crib for upstairs & will use the carrycot from her travel system for naps downstairs (Cosatto Giggle 2).

My DGS hasn't arrived yet, so unable to give any reviews on them yet x

We went for the tutti but haven't used it yet. It's the same size as the chicco (the mattresses are at least) and it felt sturdy. I really liked the shelf underneath as I remember from the first time the extra stuff that just accumulates. You can also tilt it if needed.

I was worried about duvet stray too, so the plan is to have it really close but side up. Ill bring the side down for transfer back in as from memory it was the downward movement that woke my worst sleeper, whereas moving across always seemed easier.

I like that it's very easy to assemble and although it's not light it isn't any heavier than our travel cot so I like that as long as it lasts we can keep using it at home and when away. I wouldn't want to move it every day though.

I do think the snuzpod is the prettiest (I haven't seen the newest one) but it seemed small and I don't think it would last as long.

smellsofelderberries · 10/08/2018 10:28

We bought the Stokke Sleepi Mini. Had it right next to the bed in early days then moved to elsewhere in our room when we had to extend it at 4 months. It's on wheels to so can move it around fairly easily (we live in a small flat).

user1906 · 10/08/2018 11:27

I have a snuzpod, its a beautiful piece of furniture and has three different functions. Can be attached to bed, stand alone and the crib part can be lifted off and taken into a different room for daytime naps.

Its wooden and super sturdy, i love itGrin
