lulumama · 31/05/2007 18:56

well

your cervix is 2 cm dilated, but as you have babies already, your cervix never really closes again..you are often 1 cm dilated after birth

cervix is short, that is good, and the baby;s head is at -2...so getting engaged....-5 is high, +5 is head is crowning IIRC

IOL @T + ARM

means induction of labour at term plus , artistical rupture of membranes

this explains a bit more about bishops score which is a way of assessing readiness for induction

mother-care.ca/bishop.htm

lulumama · 31/05/2007 18:58

artistical !!! artificial

sounds like things are moving in the right direction, some sex and nipple stim should see you right

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 19:06

Yey so things are going on Yipeeeeee

So not happy about the induction malarkey. Have told them the whole way through that as this is my last baby I DON'T want to be induced. The woman practically bullied me into agreeing that I would be induced I comprimised (sp?) and said I will wait untill exactly 14 days over & no sooner. The hospitals max is usually 11 days over. She said I will not let you go over 42 weeks and thats a definate (sp?). So going to sit everynight twiddling me norks untill this baby comes on her own.

Thankyou Lulu

What lulu said!

Looking forward to the birth announcement

mears · 31/05/2007 19:14

My3Girls - what do you mean that she will not let you go over 42 weeks? You cannot be made to be induced.

If you have an ARM at 42 weeks, you might not go into labour and then you would need to be started on a drip.

How many weeks are you now?

lulumama · 31/05/2007 19:53

DO NOT be bullied into induction, especially if you are a slow cooker ! no-one, no-one at all, not even a consultant can make you be induced !

get twiddling, get plenty of bedroom action , visualise the birth you want, not the one the obs wants....and think happy, birthy thoughts

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 20:12

Mears I had the exame and as I was getting dressed the consultant said we have to book you an induction. My midwife then told her I didn't want to induced at all. Consultant then told me "oh we can't do that you will have to be induced at 40+11. I informed her that I had discussed this with the last consultant I had seen, who said that was fine but would have to come in for monitoring, so all was good.

I remember asking lulu about it earlier in my PG, about the chance of going to 42 weeks as I did with both DDs and Lulu informed me, as she has this evening, that some woman just take longer & I also gathered info on other websites. So this is why I made the choice to wait and see. To be honest this consultant has now given me the hibby jibbys about problems regarding the placenta after 42 weeks and said it's function rapidly declines after this period.

I never agreed to ARM as she put it which am a bit pee'd off about but I suppose thats a part of induction although with DD they just left them to go on their own.

Oh I don't know. I do have a strong feeling I will go myself into labour anyhow but am still annoyed Grrr

OP posts:
lulumama · 31/05/2007 20:15

i think you will go into labour spontanously

you are confident in your body and your ability to birth babies, so that is really important ...yes, placental function does decline, but that is where the monitoring post dates will help..if you are confident you can do this, and you understand the risks ( small, but real ) , then you cannot be forced into induction

i doubt the consultant is going to come to your house and drag you in to hospital

juliewoolie · 31/05/2007 20:34

can I hijak the thread and ask the lovely doulas for some advice. I too have been bullied into booking in for an induction today. Have been very vocal about not wanting to be induced but have been given the hospital policy line and am unsure what comeback I have.

I am 40+3 and have been booked in at 41+4 and told its happening whether I want to or not.

Had to request that they do a sweep today and the result was cx posterior, med consistency,2cm long, station(?) -2, BS=1

What does this mean no explanation given and am now incredibly fearful about birth and have absoloutly no confidence in hospital.

lulumama · 31/05/2007 20:37

joolie

IMHO, non medical opinion, a BS of 1 is way too low for induction, should be 5 at least

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE INDUCED JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE PASSED YOUR ESTIMATED DUE DATE!

The hospital are going to be fighting against a body that is not ready for labour, a long , thick posterior cervix is not ripe

could take a long time to get things moving

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 20:37

"i doubt the consultant is going to come to your house and drag you in to hospital " can just imagine that.

If I did decide to go over, after already agreeing that at 42 weeks I would be induced, would they not refuse to monitor me??

I really do feel that this LO will come before, which is comforting as I just knew with the girls that they would be really late. I guess it's like the "knowing" one is pregnant before testing IYKWIM.

Back to the 0.5 cm cervical lengh is this how effaced the cervix is?

OP posts:
lulumama · 31/05/2007 20:38

mind you, things could change in a few days..you could try my old favourite of sex and nipple stim, to help get things going..

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 20:41

These doctors thinking they can control what happens to us is getting me fairly Grrrrrrrr

OP posts:
My3Girls · 31/05/2007 20:44

Deffo doing the nipple stim, no sex for me im afraid. The man who helped make this little girl is currently a seven hour drive away.

Is it true lulu that orgasms can trigger labour?

OP posts:
lulumama · 31/05/2007 20:45

orgasm can help trigger contractions, so a bit of DIY can't hurt

you can try to have a feel of your cervix, get to know it a bit, so you know when it is ripening more

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 20:50

Okies

Tried the to do the cervix checking last week and fell straight on my backside. Tis so hard with this bump in the way

OP posts:
juliewoolie · 31/05/2007 21:10

thanks for that, I knew my bubba is not ready to come out yet.

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 21:20

Joolie am sending you lots of spontanious labor vibes

OP posts:
lulumama · 31/05/2007 21:22

let us know how you go joolie

my3 - if you cannot reach your cervix, put a pillow or two under your bum, or squat down

you'll enjoy your DIY, lots of increased blood flow to your fanjo in late pregnancy!

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 21:26

You do make me chuckle lulu!!! Hehehe

Just to be sure, is it still ok to check cervix after having a show?

OP posts:
lulumama · 31/05/2007 21:27

yes, clean hands, short nails, go gently...remember, the MW had her hand in there earlier ! it is your cervix, your body.you are allowed to touch it.

lulumama · 31/05/2007 21:28

a ripe cervix feels like a pursed mouth , and an unripe one, like the tip of your nose

My3Girls · 31/05/2007 21:34

I just got up to have a wander round and it really sore all over down there, thighs, hips and bum and it feels really heavy which I never had earlier. Am now walking like John wayne

OP posts:
quadrophenia · 31/05/2007 21:37

If you do decide to fight against being induced (as you have evry right to do) insist that you are monitored daily please. I have been induced three times as am a slow cooker, but with ds 2 they were going to send me home as ward was full, but decided they would pop me on the monitor first. Good thing they did he had a brady cardic trace and i needed to be induced immediately. Whilst i am all for waiting and seeing please be aware that for some there are risks so monitoring is important. Good luck xx

lulumama · 31/05/2007 21:39

definitely quad....the hospital should give yo daily monitoring, post dates, part of expectant management!

my3...keep thinking those birthy thoughts !
