Daytime sleeping for baby downstairs- options?

Noodles14 · 29/07/2018 17:13

Just looking at options for what the baby could potentially sleep in downstairs during the day.
So wondering what people use? We have a cocker spaniel (will be 18 months when baby arrives) so we need to have something off the floor and preferably even off the sofas! Just wondered what people put baby in to sleep in during the day when they are downstairs with the baby - assuming this will actually happen!

I used a Moses basket on a stand. Got it cheap second hand

dorothybythesea · 29/07/2018 17:15

Sofa is definitely not safe, I've been looking a moses basket or sleeping in pram carrycot (only with a safe model, of course!) Was also considering a baby box (but not sure if they are safe?) or a travel cot but they seem quite bulky and don't want to crowd our lounge so much so soon. Curious to hear what others have used!

NameChangeCuddleBums · 29/07/2018 17:17

I use the pram. I appreciate not having an extra thing cluttering up the house.

ParkheadParadise · 29/07/2018 17:17

Mine slept in their prams during the day.

Moses basket for first DCs and with DC3 just left the pram (with proper flat carrycot attachment) set up in the living room for him.

We had two stands for our Moses basket so had one upstairs and one downstairs and just used to move it when needed.

I did that for a while and then switched to the pram, but had a lie flat travel system with a removable mattress that made it safe for overnight sleeping and therefore long naps. Not that mine ever napped for long!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 29/07/2018 17:21

I used the pram for daytime naps downstairs - or at least I did for about the first two weeks when he would actually sleep somewhere other than someone's arms!!

Celebelly · 29/07/2018 17:21

I've been thinking about this a bit too. I think we'll have a Moses basket on a stand otherwise our cocker spaniel will be constantly trying to lick the baby! We have plenty of space so not worried about clutter or having an extra thing - we're planning on a bedside crib so Moses basket and stand will prob just be for downstairs and will stay there so we don't have to move stuff about all the time.

We used the sleepyhead either on the sofa, floor or table, depending on where we were. No dogs though. Not sure what I’ll do this time as will have inquisitive toddler to contend with, probably sleepyhead in travel cot.

chewbacca83 · 29/07/2018 17:25

I've bought a second hand sleepyhead and also a free Finnish baby box. I'll see which baby prefers.

LlamaPyjamas · 29/07/2018 17:25

I have a large travel cot. Should be usable until DC goes to school, and will double up as a playpen, plus we can take it if we go anywhere.

Samanabanana · 29/07/2018 17:27

We used our travel system with the cot attachment, worked well and kept the baby out the reach of our dog (a golden retriever). That's when DC would nap out of my arms, of course Grin

shonkyklingonmakeup · 29/07/2018 17:30

I also have a dog, so we had the baby in a baby nest/sleepyhead thing on tables. I think I'll get some sort of travel cot/moses basket stand thing next time (if there is a next time)

WooYa · 29/07/2018 17:31

DS sleeps in a lie-flat pram during the day but will occasionally sleep on the sofa if I'm there maybe watching Tv on Mumsnet but if I leave the room he gets out in his pram or taken with me to stop my lovely but crazy dog licking him.

NapQueen · 29/07/2018 17:33

We used the 3 In 1 Napper. It was amazing. Lasted til 8mo.

Cosmoa · 29/07/2018 17:34

I just use the carry cot on the pram. And she sleeps next to me on the couch on a pillow sometimes. But only if I'm next to her!

SilverPartyShoes · 29/07/2018 17:35

Baby in Moses basket, later in pram carry cot body on floor. I had a playpen used for safe sleeping as we had a Labrador (although dog not allowed in room with sleeping baby anyway) but it also became a safe place to sleep when they were toddler age.
Older child also used travel cot as safe sleeping place at Granmothers house previously.

I think you need to err on the side of caution with dogs and babies, no matter how lovely your dog, as they are dogs and get jealous, not matter how human like you treat your dog.

Moses basket on a stand isnt a great idea with a dog about, as they could be knocked over

LoveProsecco · 29/07/2018 18:12

My DS slept in a Moses basket. He grew out of it quickly though. For a period I put a travel cot in the living room but bought a really comfy mattress for inside it.

Nothisispatrick · 29/07/2018 18:17

We've bought a second hand sleepyhead for the sofa. No dogs though.

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 29/07/2018 18:21

We have a 'Mum to Me' pod from Mothercare in the travel cot. Fraction of the cost of a sleepyhead grand but effectively the same thing.

Ifeelshit · 29/07/2018 18:55

A moses basket can be a little unsteady and an excited dog could accidentally knock it over. Personally in your situation I'd either use a playpen/ travel cot or the pram (depending on what pram you have) or buy a crib that has 4 legs to keep it steady.

user1499786242 · 29/07/2018 19:07

Moses basket for about two weeks
Then pram
And now a reclining rocker chair thing

Or... me 😂😂

4GreenApples · 29/07/2018 19:13

We used a pram carrycot to start with.

Later we used a mat inside a playpen as a safe place to sleep. No pets here, just exuberant older siblings who tend to race around without looking where they’re putting their feet.

kenandbarbie · 29/07/2018 19:18

The pram at first, then when bigger they used to like a vibrating chair

kenandbarbie · 29/07/2018 19:19

Also one of mine flipped themselves out of a Moses basket on a stand when about four months Shock
