We have 3 sons

so as long as they use their middle name initials they will keep their post private

If I ever have a girl I would like

nappyaddict · 11/02/2008 23:39

and from another thread ciara, ione and keziah (kizzy), eliza (pron e-lie-za) and elisa (e-lee-za), chiara (italian version of clara), mila (short for amelia/emilia), clair, sorrel, dorothea (dot), theodora, marianne/marianna/marian, alexandra, verity, araminta, aminta, lilith, elspeth, rosalie, paulina/paula, elewyn for a girl.

casey/kasey, sacha or rowan for a boy or a girl.

mateo, rudi or sonny for a boy.

nappyaddict · 12/02/2008 02:31

there's an MNer naming hers myrtle

it made me think of marcus, marshall and mars for a boy.

ninedragons · 12/02/2008 03:24

We had settled on Hamish for a boy. I wanted Flora for our DD when she was born because she was all pink and curled-up like a little spring flower, but DH couldn't get past the margarine thing.

I also wanted Ursula because her fuzzy black hair made her look like a little bear cub, but it's only a lovely name if it's pronounced Ur-soo-la, not Ur-shula. I think I may still have been a bit stoned from the epidural when I suggested it.

When I was pregnant I lobbied heavily for Yael but husband said it's too Jewish to give to a 100% Anglo-Saxon/Celtic baby and sounded ridiculous with our McSurname. I did a poll among our Jewish friends and sadly they all sided with him. Mind you, DH suggested Noor. Yael Noor would have had a very balanced view on Palestine.

I've kept the name list we drew up. It'll be interesting to look at it when she's 16 and see if I can imagine her as a Yael or an Ursula. When we really couldn't agree we added some pretty out-there options so I can show it to her and say look, darling, aren't you pleased we didn't call you Aida? (only because she would have spent her life explaining it's Ai-eda, not I-da).

nappyaddict · 12/02/2008 12:32

aida is lovely though for a girl. i like noor too actually . it can be used for either sex too. is yael prononced how it is spelt? if so you have another fan here.

ninedragons · 12/02/2008 23:04

I didn't know that about Noor - I thought it was just a girls' name.

Yael is Ya-el (it should have a diarisis over the e but I don't think I have one on this keyboard).

I also had Juno on my list from the moment I peed on the stick back in early summer, but then that bloody film came out and I thought bugger, cult film, it'll be the new Amelie.
