How many times did you go in for reduced movements?

Just that really. I’m sat hooked up to the trace machine for the second time in 5 weeks and everything seems absolutely fine. I hate the idea of wasting anyone’s time (even though the midwife has been absolutely lovely about it), so was just wondering if I’m being overly cautious or if other went in a lot too?

11 times and I feel no shame what so ever ☺️ I'm 38 weeks and I won't let anything stop me from making sure my baby is okay yes I'm aware 11 times is a very high number but you can't put a number on our baby's safety can we. If something doesn't feel right to me then I will go get checked that's just the way it is same as when she is here so honestly don't even feel that way you are being a good mum! I've been up 6 times that I've called for because of reduced movements then I had monitoring for 9 days straight which consultant put in place from the 19th to the 27th of June and 5 of those days were reduced and 4 were good days so I'm well known up my unit 🤷🏻‍♀️ Baby has her usual days then she just won't move at all so that's where I go

SemperIdem · 01/07/2018 17:36

Once - but I only experienced reduced movements once.

I’d have gone in as many times as I believed necessary. Midwives don’t see it as time wasting. Everything being fine is what they want to see when a woman comes in for monitoring for reduced movements but it isn’t always. I know people for whom it hasn’t been and that outcome is tragic.

Theweasleytwins · 01/07/2018 17:40

I'm using the kicks count app, how reduced is worrying?

SoyDora · 01/07/2018 17:42

None in 2 pregnancies, because I didn’t have any incidents of what I felt to be reduced movement. If you have, then it’s absolutely fine to go in as many times as you think you need to. Currently pregnant with my third and won’t hesitate to go in if I’m worried.

fuzzywuzzy · 01/07/2018 17:45

Twice. Once was at 26 weeks and after sudden extreme pain which was only alleviated by taking a warm bath then I realised baby had not moved much at all that day and panicked.

Second time was two days over due date and she’d been really quiet all day and I got scared. That time was because labour had started.

MaverickSnoopy · 01/07/2018 17:55

1st pregnancy I went in at about 38 weeks and was fine. 2nd pregnancy I phoned the GP about 18 weeks who checked the heartbeat and it was fine. Currently 26 weeks and so far all has been normal.

I don't think you can waste their time when it comes to reduced movements.

buggedby · 01/07/2018 17:55

Twice with DD and they wanted to induce me second time I went in

4-5 times with DS for increased movements. They should have induced me as we both had an infection from my waters breaking and he was in distress

susej · 01/07/2018 17:57

Once because I only felt reduced movements once. I’d have been in every other day if I felt like he was doing something that wasn’t normal for him, no shame. And every midwife says they’d rather we went in!

LostBabySock · 01/07/2018 17:58

Once. 38 weeks, from around 3pm-8pm one day I barely felt anything. Of course she started spinning around like anything in the taxi going down there and the fetal monitor showed loads of kicks so nothing was wrong - she must have been in a funny position. Midwife was lovely and very reassuring, she was born 2 weeks later very healthy.

YearOfYouRemember · 01/07/2018 18:01

I went in loads and while some midwives were bitches I still went back. They wouldn't care for long or at all if my baby died but I would forever.

I'd always try cold drinks, or anything that normally got baby moving but if in doubt, go in. Your baby isn't worth the risk.

With dc1 the midwife "lost" his last trace. I think after she'd stopped taking the piss out of me she actually looked at the trace and shit herself. Thankfully another midwife took over and my baby is making plans for uni.

bobsleighmagic · 01/07/2018 18:03

Twice. Midwives were lovely both times. They told me I'd made the right call to come in both times, and said I should again if I needed to. They would much rather you come in for a check up only to find everything is fine than for you to wait too long and there be problems that could have been avoided. Trust your instincts. Xx

Stellarbella · 01/07/2018 18:08

Great! He is an absolute pest for not moving even when encouraged with cold drinks! Nice to know I’m not being insane. Obviously as soon as he was hooked up to the monitor he started kicking like mad..

CloudAtlas81 · 01/07/2018 18:15

Not at all insane.

Never went in with dd1. Dd2, I went in about 3 times. The third time did show prolonged reduced movement and I was booked in for a c-section not long after. Sometimes it is something, sometimes it is nothing. That's for the professionals to decide. Take care op x

BounceAndClimb · 01/07/2018 18:20

Once with DD1 (only went to 32 weeks or presume it would have been more)

None with DD2 but went in with bleeding twice 2 days apart, was kept in the second time as I'd lost my plug with it and she was born a couple of days later at 28 weeks.

4 times with DS (third) and once with the start of contractions at 34 weeks which stopped at 2-3cm and he made it to 37 weeks.

Never feel bad getting checked, you will feel a thousand times worse if you don't get checked and something goes wrong.
If I hadn't gone back about the bleeding with DD2 I wouldn't have had the steroid injections before her birth and wouldn't have already been in hospital when my 2 hour labour started, and if I hadn't made it to hospital in time she wouldn't have survived as she needed ventilation being too small to breath alone.

It's such an important message for women to know that the correct answer to your question is EVERY SINGLE TIME. 100% of reduced movements should be reviewed and monitored. So if for one woman, that means once ever across her for pregnancies, great. For another, it that means six times in one week, great. Thankfully the vast majority will be reassured and all will be well, but for a few, seeking help could make a vital difference.

If you're worried enough about movement to post on a message board, then you are worried enough to go to your hospital or unit and be reviewed.

Best wishes.

mintich · 01/07/2018 18:41

3!! Each time she started kicking while I was on the machine. Luckily they were always lovely about it!

Eatsleepworkrepeat · 01/07/2018 18:43

Probably a dozen times. Last visit dc was born by emcs about 15 minutes after they hooked me up. Its always worth going in.

Grammarist · 01/07/2018 18:50

Lots of times with both pregnancies.
First time I went in with the second pregnancy, a HV had told me not to worry. I went in anyway and turns out I was in pre-term labour. They managed to stop it but I went back every two-five days as my body kept in trying to have the baby.

Trust your instincts and go in as much as you need to x

JustPurple · 01/07/2018 18:58

Three times 28 - 33 weeks and then I was in every other day until labour at 37 weeks.
Baby was a bit lazy and only ever moved twice a day maximum so a drop was really noticeable.

elliejjtiny · 01/07/2018 18:58

Every time I felt reduced movements which was once for dc2 and once for dc4. Both times all was good but both were slow movers throughout my pregnancies and were diagnosed with physical disabilities after birth.

annlee3817 · 01/07/2018 19:08

Twice but only because I felt they were reduced twice. I remember the second time they were picking up things on the monitor, but I still couldn't feel much, so they sent me for a scan, all was fine, but I would have gone in a 100 times if needed. The midwives said they'd rather see us 100 times than us not go in that one time.

flamingofridays · 01/07/2018 19:09
  1. They induced me on the third but I was was 39.5 weeks pregnant anyway.

Much better to go in even if it is 53 times!!

cloudtree · 01/07/2018 19:09

none but i would have if id thought there was an issue.

Stellarbella · 01/07/2018 19:11

They are sending me for a scan tomorrow now, and a repeat CTG. All massively precautionary. Really can’t fault them, they are taking things quite a lot more seriously than I expected them to.

Always go in and never feel you are wasting anyone’s time. I had reduced movement, was nearly 2 weeks overdue and 12 hours away from being induced at the time so wasn’t sure whether to go in, spoke to a midwife on the phone and even she seemed unsure but we went in as a precaution. When we were seen I ended up being rushed straight to theatre for an emergency c section, turns out the placenta was failing and baby wasn’t getting enough oxygen. Not trying to scare anyone but dread to think what would have happened if we hadn’t gone in! Always get checked out x
