No movement but heartbeat help

3 days ago, I noticed the baby had no movement towards the evening which was unusual. The baby had previously been very active. The next day I was quite busy, but again towards the evening I noticed no movement, I thought maybe because I'd been busy maybe I'd just missed it. The next day around midday I had been lounging around for hours to determine whether I could feel anything and felt nothing. Got husband involved to stimulate my stomach and make noise and nothing. Normally he will get some kind of kick in the face or something which normally made us laugh... But again nothing. Tried sugary juice, cold drink and putting music on my stomach and still nothing. We were staying with a friend and called their local hospital and was told to come in to check. They told me that they could only listen in to see if there was a heartbeat but nothing else as I wasn't registered with that hospital. They listened and said there was a heartbeat and sounded fine, so I felt reassured and went about my day. Now it's the next morning and I've been laying on my side for 2 hours and still no kicks. Should I be worried? Or heartbeat being "fine" should reassure me enough? Thanks in advance...

I'd call the modwife / unit and get along for monitoring.

Hope all is well lass.

redhappydance · 30/06/2018 07:54

I'd definitely get it checked, I believe they should do an NST test. Every time I've had concerns over lack of movement they've put me on a monitor for about 30 mins to an hour x

flumpybear · 30/06/2018 07:55

Probably nothing but id get it checked asap

ellesbellesxxx · 30/06/2018 07:56

How many weeks are you? They only listen with a Doppler before 28 weeks in my trust but after they use a ctg

Tinypause · 30/06/2018 07:57

It will depend on how many weeks you are. Before 28 weeks or so they would only listen (although if ongoing they should arrange a scan). If you are over 28 weeks then they should put you on a CTG to check wellbeing. If before 24 weeks it is normal to feel more some days than others.

Aweirdscience · 30/06/2018 07:58

Hi ladies, thanks for the responses. To clarify, I'm 25 weeks.

Go back. Go to their local A&E. They should absolutely scan you whether or not you are registered there. Please, please go in. Don't delay. Have you heard of Kicks Count? X

Angharad07 · 30/06/2018 08:04

I was told by my midwife not to worry about an unusual movement pattern before 28 weeks. I’m not sure what advice to give, I’m sure you’re worried sick but let the heartbeat reassure you.

ellesbellesxxx · 30/06/2018 08:05

Definitely go back.. I had reduced movement twice before 28 w and they did a Doppler scan on the placenta (twins) then had consistent rfm from 33-36 weeks and was induced earlier than planned.

Aweirdscience · 30/06/2018 08:06

Achanger, I have heard of the kick counter. But, I've not had any kicks to count for around a 3 day period now. No movement at all... 🤔

Bellabutterfly2016 · 30/06/2018 08:08

Are you far from home? Can you get back??

If not; Maybe your local pregnancy unit could phone where you are (if you can't get back).

Sometimes babies move more than others. My last pregnancy my dd was quite a still baby I had no nausea or anything and this time I've had a couple of scans and the baby was extremely active - explaining the nausea a bit but the ❤️ heartbeat should reassure you but just stay calm x

KoshaMangsho · 30/06/2018 08:08

That is extremely worrying. I would go straight to hospital. 3 days is a long time for no movement.

ReadytoTalk · 30/06/2018 08:10

Go to hospital. Your baby might be in distress. Please trust your instincts.

Aweirdscience · 30/06/2018 08:10

Ellesbellesxxx, do they treat it like A&E where they leave you waiting around hours before seeing you? I'm worried as I'm actually moving home today.. Awful timing... And I have a few hours this morning before the delivery van takes us to our new address so can pop over to the hospital now... Im worried that once I move it's going to take a while for me to be able to register for a new gp and have access to the hospital where they won't help me! (which is the same hospital I had the check up).

Can you phone your own hospital/midwife and get their advice on the best thing to do?

AmazingGrace16 · 30/06/2018 08:17

Phone the labour ward and explain. Do it now please

Aweirdscience · 30/06/2018 08:17

Yeah I'm calling for advice now.

OP posts:
Isittimeforbed · 30/06/2018 08:21

At 25 weeks they only tend to listen to the heartbeat, not do a CTG or scan unless the heartbeat on its own picks up a problem. So the care they've given you hasn't been affected by whether or not you're registered there. Ideally get registered asap as they then have more information about you in their own system, but before that just take your existing notes and they'd treat you as they would anyone else.

Havetothink · 30/06/2018 08:23

Don't want to contradict any other advice but just make sure you're drinking plenty of water too and are not dehydrated.

FatCow2018 · 30/06/2018 08:30

Seconding the advice re dehydration as this can be a cause for reduced movement. I hope they call you in so you can be reassured.

Aweirdscience · 30/06/2018 08:45

So I called. They said to come in. But it's most likely nothing.. They said that I could be either higher body weight and can't feel kicks as much... Erm.. Haha... Or baby is in an awkward position... And also that I'm only 25 weeks and should only feel flutters rather than kicks right now.

I've felt quite strong kicks etc for around 3 weeks now, I didn't get the flutters before as I'm anterior placenta... So not sure what she meant by any of that.

She said that she can only check for heartbeat and measure the baby... I'm assuming measuring my stomach? But won't give me a scan or anything now. Which I expected. I'm going in now but I feel like she's already kinda palmed me off before I've gotten there as I'm only 25 weeks...

Thoughts?

30 weeks. Been checked for reduced movements a couple of times. He looks good, but he does get quiet if I'm not feeling 100% and that's helped the team pick up gestational diabetes, dehydration (easy in this heat! Ask them to check your ketone levels!) and now obstetric choliatsis. Trust your gut OP and insist they check you properly.

Isittimeforbed · 30/06/2018 08:54

She hasn't palmed you off, that's completely normal procedure for 25 weeks. It's right on the edge of viability so there are limits to what they can do if your reduced movements are for a pathological rather than normal physiological reason.

Drchinnery · 30/06/2018 08:55

They should be able to hear baby moving around with the Doppler. They tend not to worry at that stage however when I went in at 24 weeks as he had been a constant wriggler they could hear him moving around I just couldn't feel him. They won't scan you yet. They told me they can move around quite a bit at that stage so you can't feel them. Havee you been busy so may have noticed less? They told me to lie on my side for 2 hours, as it happened when i was being induced they could only monitor him if i was on my side! But go with your instincts.

InConstantNeedOfAGin · 30/06/2018 09:04

I had an anterior placenta and I was the same as you. Very rarely felt my DD move until she was much bigger and started to roll around. Freaked me out for months and I probably called my midwife more than I called anyone else! But that is what they are there for, and I had monitoring just to be on the safe side. Midwife told me that if baby was behind the placenta, I more than likely wouldn't feel anything. Maybe that's where your baby has been lying the past few days?? I'd definitely go in for monitoring though, no A+E will say no because you aren't registered!
