We're all a bit freaked by how much we're eating, how much we're gaining, etc.

I'm loving the idea that there's a magic pill - just breastfeed and you'll lose all the weight in the first ten minutes. I want to believe this with all my heart!

But RL intrudes and the scale awaits. I'm 30+6 and I went from 8.5 stone to God knows what, I'm afraid to find out. I know five weeks ago I had put on 9 kilos and I've grown exponentially since then.

So ladies who have been there and done that, tell us how much you gained and how long it took you to lose the weight, will you? What did you do to acheive the loss?

And those lucky few who haven't gained an ounce or have actually LOST weight , go start your own thread!

Cheers!

With DD I gained just over 2 and a half stone. I lost it all within about 3 months. I did breastfeed which I think helped a lot. However, big but coming here.... the weight distribution wasn't the same. My waist is not as tiny, my tummy never quite as flat!

I did have a c-section though and had gotten rid of the dreaded overhang due to weight loss and exercise, but that took a good 10 -12 months.
Just remember, it took 9 months to gain the weight, it can take at least that to lose it. If you have a section you can't exercise properly for a while. Even without a section you will be too busy with your baby to be thinking about goin to the gym everyday!

This time around I have gained just over 2 stone and am 37 weeks. Will be working hard to get my figure back, but not until after the first few months - why stress about it? Just relax and enjoy your baby and the weight loss can be dealt with once you have a semblance of a routine etc!!

I put on four and a half stone . In the first 3 months after giving birth I lost all but the last 1.5 stone without trying (I was bf). I then cut out cakes and snacks and lost the last 1.5 stone by 6 months. I have continued BFing and it is just falling off now. I am 17lbs lighter than before I got pregnant and I have not even been dieting. I put it down to BFing for longer than 6 months, pushing the pram over long distances to get DD to sleep and being to busy to snack .

RedFraggle · 24/05/2007 17:44

Definitely steer clear of the cakes and biscuits! You get so used to munching on them in pregnancy (well I did) that it is too easy to continue the habit.

fridayschild · 24/05/2007 17:50

I lost the weight really quickly after DS1 through a combination of breast feeding and a Bell's Palsy - a type of facial paralysis which I cannot recommend .

But this made me cocky when pregnant with DS2, and I reckon weight gain as a result of doughnuts and chocolate cake is harder to shift than weight gain as a result of bananas and dried apricots

Zola78 · 24/05/2007 18:07

I gained roughly a stone and half after both pregnancies. I didn't really shift the weight after DS1. I still had about 10lbs to lose when I fell pregnant with DS2. I'm now 3 lbs from my pre pregnancies weight but alas I am pregnant again. But this time I feel confident that I can lose the weight because I've done it before. I'm trying not to panic but feel like I don't want to put on the weight I've just lost but I want another healthy baby!

DivaSkyChick · 25/05/2007 09:29

I know Red, I know! I never had a sweet tooth before this pregnancy but I've now indulged so much that I wonder how I will ever stop!

Plus my husband doesn't feel dinner is complete without dessert. How does one manage that???

I put on 2 stone with each pregnancy and lost it all in 24 months give or take.

How? running around after one then two then three kids!

MotherofZ · 25/05/2007 09:55

I put on 4 stones with my 1st preg and lost it all within 8 months by healthy eating and taking baby out for long walks (resisted the chocs and cakes).
10 weeks pregnant so far and already put on 1/2 stone (Is this normal or am I over eating?). Defo want to be much healthier this time around.

Puppie · 25/05/2007 12:29

I have put on 2 stone and I still have 3 months to go. I was a slim 8.5 stone before! I have been eating a lot more though. Am also hoping the breastfeeding will genuinly help with the weight loss!

PizPizPiz · 25/05/2007 14:25

I put on just over 2 stones with dd1 and lost them all in less than 3 months thanks to breasfeeding. I'm now 36 weeks pg and I've only put on 1.5 stone.

divastrop · 25/05/2007 14:28

i put on 3 stone in each of my pregnancies.it took me years to loose it after ds and dd1,but the weight i put on with ds2 dropped off me in 3 months,6 months with dd2.dd3 is 11 weeks now and i still have 1.5 stone to shift

kittypants · 25/05/2007 14:34

with all 3 i put on 2 stone.
with dd and ds1 i practically lost the weight before leaving hospital[grin!].with ds2 it took just over a year.

PregnantGrrrl · 25/05/2007 15:23

i put on 2stone with DS, and lost it through breastfeeding in about 6-7mths.

Twiglett · 25/05/2007 15:32

DS put on 4.5 stone .. lost 2.5 stone at birth .. lost 1 stone over bf for 4 months .. kept other stone

DD put on 2.5 stone .. lost 1.5 stone at birth .. kept other stone

I see them as gifts from my children

Twiglett · 25/05/2007 15:32

sorry with DD lost nothing whilst bf for 11 months

kreamkrackers · 25/05/2007 15:40

put on 5 stone with dd1 only lost 1 stone (passed caring about myself to loose the weight)

never put on weight with dd2 (she was 11 weeks early)

also never lost anymore weight. still bf dd2.

i'm 5'7" was 8 1/2 stone and size 8/10 before having children

now i'm 12 1/2 stone and size 14/16

Brangelina · 25/05/2007 16:00

I put on 12kg in total, most in the first trimester funnily enough (could only manage greasy cheese and potatoes).

Afterwards I could just about squeeze back into size 10 jeans at 6 weeks, not particularly from bfeeding but from not ever getting baby off boob enough for me to eat, but I was still carrying about 4kg more than before pg. That really only shifted in the last couple of months (DD is 22mo) and I now fit into my clothes exactly as before pg, only I'm flabbier and have no muscles left.

Walnutshell · 25/05/2007 16:03

Gained 2 stone with ds and lost it within 3 weeks, probably due to breastfeeding and not being terribly interested in stuffing my face (for once!) as had him to think about.

When people put on loads of weight, isn't it because they overeat when pregnant? (I don't mean that unsympathetically, but surely that's simply the reason why...?) I don't think I particularly scoffed but I never went hungry and of course, no alcohol calories which helped!

skidaddle · 28/05/2007 10:25

I lost most of it in the first six weeks or so but then carried an extra stone (guessing as I never weighed myself) until I'm afraid I STOPPED breastfeeding and started doing a lot of proper exercise (football, running and cycling) and I was then a bit thinner than I had been pre-pregnancy. I know you do lose weight breastfeeding but I found that I didn't really feel like running around and doing vigorous exercise while bfing as boobs were so heavy so it was only when I stopped (when dd was 9 months) that i properly got my figure back.

I'm now pg again so the cycle begins once more...

DrNortherner · 28/05/2007 10:28

With ds I went from 8.5 stone to 10.5 stone. I lost a stone immediatley after birth. I was left with a jelly belly for a few days. Within 2 weeks I was back in my jeans albeit with a bit of over hang!

I walked alot as I couldn't drive back then and I survived on weetabix alone fro the first few weeks

motherinferior · 28/05/2007 10:30

I put on a stone and a half with DD1 and it took a long time to shift. I put on a stone with DD2 and lost it within three months.

These days I weigh a few pounds less than I did before ever getting pregnant, but my waistline has expanded permanently

Don't know how much I was at the start or at the end, but know that when I was bfing and eating so much that I was putting on weight. Mind you I was eating a box of Poppycock Cashew Popcorn everyday until my best mate pointed out that there was 1,000 calories in each box!

Didn't worry at all about putting on a bit of weight after the birth as I felt I really needed all those calories to keep my baby well fed.

After about 3 months it just started going off again but by then I was more active and was going for more works and pushing the pram up some pretty steep hills (we lived on a 1 in 2 and a half hill at the time!)

Don't stress too much about it and if you do start worrying you can always start the dreaded Healthy Eating Plan!

thebecster · 08/06/2007 14:31

Gained 4.5 stone (the only time I wasn't throwing up was when I was eating, for the full 9 months, so I ate and ate and ate...).

I lost 2 stone during the birth, and another half a stone that week. Lost another stone with breastfeeding & carrying baby in babybjorn while walking for miles & miles. Lost half a stone so far with Weightwatchers, half a stone still to lose, and DS turned 1 today! The depressing thing is that 1 week before I found out I was pregnant I bought a pair of Marc Jacobs jeans - the most expensive thing I have ever bought. And I thought 'Well, they're a wee bit tight, but if I just lose a couple of pounds they'll be just right' ...

agnesnitt · 11/06/2007 00:01

Since December I have lost 3 stone. I am 36+3 so think I'll be losing a fair bit more too

Not a deliberate thing, I might add. I lost about two stone with my daughter, and this pregnancy has been a more high stress affair than the last so I'm not surprised the figure is higher. I lose my appetite when pregnant and have to force myself to eat. I'm overweight though, so although the weight loss seems dramatic it's not dangerous.
