We're all a bit freaked by how much we're eating, how much we're gaining, etc.

I'm loving the idea that there's a magic pill - just breastfeed and you'll lose all the weight in the first ten minutes. I want to believe this with all my heart!

But RL intrudes and the scale awaits. I'm 30+6 and I went from 8.5 stone to God knows what, I'm afraid to find out. I know five weeks ago I had put on 9 kilos and I've grown exponentially since then.

So ladies who have been there and done that, tell us how much you gained and how long it took you to lose the weight, will you? What did you do to acheive the loss?

And those lucky few who haven't gained an ounce or have actually LOST weight , go start your own thread!

Cheers!

Flowertot - my DH took sneaky pics of me using my mobile while I was mnetting the other night....I found them a few days later and was at this big blob sat in front of the PC with chins a wobble!!

Put on 3 stone - lost 1/2 stone after birth. STARVING STARVING STARVING breastfeeding. Did not lose any weight until reduced bf, have lost 21 lbs taken 8 months and still 13 lbs to get to pre preg weight.

No stretchmarks though!

Losing the weight to do it all again later this year!

All these stories of people losing weight are depressing me - put on about 4 stone with DS - five months on am still about a stone and a half over what I was. Mind you, I have been eating a cake a day since he was born - still breastfeeding

BetsyBoop · 12/06/2007 10:27

put on 11kg with DD & within 2 weeks after the birth was 2kg lighter than before I got pg (first time I weighed myself after )

That said (and before you all start hating me!) 18months on & I STILL have a jelly belly, but can't do much about it at the moment as pg with DC2

My mum was half a stone lighter than her pre-pregnancy weight 10 days after having twins. She didn't breastfeed. I have NO idea how she managed it but I am really hoping it's genetic! I'm expecting my first. So far have gained 9kg at 29 weeks which seems reasonable.

I haven't weighed myself since I was pregnant - don't see any point as it's not just about me putting on fat, it's about all the other baby-related gubbins that is growing too! This is a useful way to understand what baby-weight comprises (from Babycentre):

? At birth, your baby will weigh approximately 3,300g (7.3lb).

? During pregnancy, the muscle layer of your womb (uterus) grows dramatically and weighs an extra 900g (2lb).

? The placenta (afterbirth), which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 600g (1.3lb).

? Your breasts weigh an extra 400g (0.9lb).

? Your blood volume increases and weighs an extra 1,200g (2.6lb)

? You have extra fluid in your body, and amniotic fluid around the baby, weighing 2,600g (5.7lb).

? Plus, you will lay down some fat during your pregnancy to provide you with extra energy for breastfeeding. This comes to about 2,500g (5.5lb).

So, by the end of pregnancy you will weigh about 11,000g (24.2lb) more than you did before you became pregnant.

This is all average weight gain though, and no one is average! Also worth remembering that if you breast feed afterwards, you actually need about an additional 750 cals a day to meet your baby's requirements, so prob not the time for drastic dieting (rather, up the exercise).

Is it true that when you are pregnant the second time around you get a visible bump alot quicker and earlier?

Rochwen · 13/06/2007 14:28

I lost one stone during pregnancy as I was suffering from SPD and was so stressed out that I couldn't eat (or sleep, or do anything really). I was the same weight when they weighed me for my anesthisia [sp] that was on my first booking appointement.

I re-gained all the weight within the first six weeks because breast-feeding made me eat like a pig.

Rochwen · 13/06/2007 14:29

Sorry, I just re-read your OP and realised you didn't want to hear about loosing weight. Just ignore previous post.

RuthChan · 13/06/2007 14:29

Sweettalkinmum:
Yeah, I've heard that too.
Must be due to the stomach muscles stretching more easily the second time round, having already been stretched once.
